So can you order a premium and/or base one from the dealer with no sunroof?
@@PabsEscobar No, you can't. A moon roof is standard on all three trims..as well as power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. He obviously got handed down one of the press fleet pre-production models with no power steering wheel and no moon roof and he hasn't memorized the production trim standard features.
The interior of the IS500 is perfect. It balances useful physical buttons with a modern but not overly complicated touchscreen. I've had my IS500 for over 1200 miles and no complaints whatsoever. A lot of people are clamoring for the NX infotainment update but its not aesthetically pleasing or easier to use. In 20 years the IS interior will have aged very well, you can bet on it!

2025-26 does seem a bit optimistic for the cut off point of the 2UR-GSE V8 engine but I hope you're right or even better if production continues into the late 2020s.

One thing to consider about the "death of the V-8" is that they have to produce a specific number of cars so equipped to keep using them in NASCAR.

I have been really wanting a new high performance hybrid from Lexus ( a more modern gs 450h type set up ) so that could be an interesting set up with more modern power train components for more fsport models as they come out 🤔🤔

Its funny cause i was on the BEV bandwagon back in the day. I bought a Focus EV when they JUST came out cause I thought the leaf was dorky, and it still is. I thought I was cool guy rocking my EV w/ everyone else gassing up. After a year I decided to test drive a Mustang GT just for funzies. I started that thing up and WHOA!!!!!! Skrew this BEV. That mustang grabbed me by the collar and shouted at me. Dont go fondly into that good night!!!!
And i havent. I bought and now ride motorcycles, and I have a 22 2UR-GSE on the way to save the daaaaaaaay.
5:39 Thats how most AT work tho. You need to drop it into sport or choose your gears to get the quickest response. Case in point in traffic. You see a placement you want in traffic start to open up. You then downshift yourself. Done now your in a higher gear for a split second that door opens you mash the pedal (assuming you checked for safety) take your spot. If you hadn't done this you could have lost your opportunity due to the lag of time from the tranny. Sport in the 2020 ILX works for this as it has a DCT which is the best thing about the entire car.
The first upgrade on this bad boy would be the exhaust. It sounds pretty weak in its stock form. I love everything else though 😎👍

Called my local dealer yesterday. Wanted to buy an is 500 f sport. None in stock in the near future and starting at $10,000 over msrp when they do. The auto market sucks really bad right now.

Already scratched the bottom of the front bumpers as it being quite low
I remember my mom ripped off the whole bumped at a parking stop, the cement stopper thingy was to high and ripped everything off my dad was pissed
Very excited about this car but I HATE the wheels. I know its fixable, but I would like the BBS's from the IS350 F-sport to be an option.
The wheels aren't my #1 choice. Bbs would be better imo
Yeah, I'd prefer the BBS too, plus I haven't found an aftermarket that I like that also saves weight

and if you had to choose between the 2017 LC 500 or the IS 500 for overall driving and owning experience, which would you go for?

LC is a better car. But the sedan is far more convenient
They did a ton of promo on this car. I think they plan to sell way more than 1,000 this year

i love lexus - i have never had any mechanical issues i’m on my 4th and i’ve also owned audi’s and i did have some mechanical issues, and know folks that have bmw’s with a ton of issues costing assloads of money so whomever wants german go for it….and whomever wants lexus well get one-they’re very very reliable look great and hold their value-why is it always some war this vs that…..
The IS500 Premiums come with a sunroof. It wasn't an option on some of the prototypes or press fleet.
Many people will critique the infotainment. Infotainment isn't a deal breaker for me because the system is functional. Wireless Apple Carplay and digital dashes aren't high on my priority list.
Ultrasonic Blue with that white interior would be my top pick. David from AP got lucky... lol

While the touchpad still isn't great, Lexus finally did the IS right and gave the 2021s a touch screen with Carplay/Android Auto that most buyers want and would be fine with.
Same goes for the Seat Memory/power operated steering wheel!
i fell in love with the white seats and with my is fsport 350 mine didn’t have the sunroof which was irrelevant as i have always had one but never used it as i like my car clean without dust….
i don’t mind the touchpad as i don’t want fingerprints on the screen - that is until they invent one that doesn’t leave them lol

I am curious why this is allowed for sale in the USA and not Australia. Does the USA have weak side impact protection rules?. This is the reason Australia was told they can't import it here is lack of side impact protection. However if it really is that poor how it is on sale anywhere?

IS500 doesn’t have a sun roof? I thought just the Canadian version didn’t.
The US spec IS500 FSP Premiums come with a sunroof according to the build sheet that I'm looking at.

You are right. Driving in automatic is very dull. The only way to get the most out an IS 350 or a RC 350 and above is to drive in manual mode. Get the most out of the engine and transmission's performance. I can't drive RC 350 F-Sport in auto. It's just so dull and rather boring. I have to go through the gears my self to get the most out of the car.

This car is impossible to find, especially in that color. I looked at an IS 350 and deemed it was too small for our current needs, so we went with an ES 350 F sport. Beautiful car though!
i actually turned in my es and have never looked back after getting the fsport 350 - it is slightly smaller but just big enough both cars are great!

How does the IS500 compare to the RC 350 F sport coupe? Aside from the v8.

Honestly, I enjoy driving the IS a bit more compared to the RC. It feels a little better balanced for my tastes. I think that’s partly due to the Frankenstein nature of the RC chassis. I prefer the IS 350 to the RC 350 and I actually prefer the IS 500 to the RC F.
But this is all my personal opinion and is something you would absolutely want to make a decision on for yourself!

It does have a rudimentary version of a 360-degree camera.
Active sound control should be used more for creating a quiet environment like noise cancelation does for headphones. No one who owns this car will use it in its current function.
Only reason why this might not be done because u might not hear sirens of emergency vehicles
i use mine all the time and it’s just fine it isn’t as if it’s as loud as a jet engine either…..

Nice car, but the inside is too small. I don't know what people are talking about when they try to say that the is500 has plenty of room lol. I went to see it in person and I was disappointed. I wish the is500 was boat sized.😢

The is500 RC F LC500 represent the backbone of what exactly lexus should be doing in all their products.
Lexus needs to make RWD platforms, give them the driving precision, the LC interior, and as a bonus offer that glorious v8. Now that is true luxury. Imo it’s not totally unrealistic. Genesis is doing that way better in their products, so why can’t Lexus?
Just taking a Camry or corolla, dressing them up, and charging 10-15K more is not luxury whatsoever. It’s blatant cost cutting, something unacceptable for a luxury brand, given the fact that in luxury, you expect perfection, next level I mean the stratospheric next level of luxury over Toyota, and Lexus precision.
Cost cutting is everything when trying to run a profitable business

The dated interior kept me from buying this car. I opted for the LC instead. And I know that's quite a delta but still that's what I did AFTER canceling my 911 order I put in place Feb of 2021 which went no where, falling to the LC order in Oct. Honestly if they plan to keep the car around for a few more years and they do. They absolutely should have given us at least a new dash and center consol. The seats and door panels could be left intact. Who cares about that.
So you opted for the old non-touchscreen in the LC500 over the IS500's touchscreen while arguing the IS500's interior is dated? Ok LOL.
My question would be:
"Why would Toyota put all that time and money to put out a dated power train that won't be worth a nickel once Gasoline is no longer available. I would NEVER buy a long termer Lexus that is racing toward approaching obsolescence."

@@naveenthemachine this has more tech than the LC500, and I'm okay with that. I still would like to know what's missing? Is it a comfort or safety feature? Most of the time it's just a creature comfort complaint.
The new NX infotainment actually sucks. Surprise. The IS500 is the perfect balance of old and new.
Lexus is becoming a dinosaur. When they Crown comes this year, Lexus should be dropped from the US.
