Hey with your crane problem im pretty sure there is a create addon mod called create: interactive that lets you control stuff on a assembled train and it also does other stuff! I hope this is what your looking for!
Create: interactive is a good solution but it would cause more problems than good. Interactive adds working physics to Minecraft, and alot of his builds have contraptions that pretty much phase through other blocks. You see where I'm going with this?
Interactive and Valkyrien Skies itself needs a lot of work before I'd bother adding it to any serious game like this. Me and my friends have never got it to run properly for whatever reason, even with no other mods.
You could replace the hand crank in the crane with a valve. It'll allow you to set an angle to move the arm by, and shift right clicking will do the reverse.

The bit with ZloYxp has me wondering: how funny would it be to have an actual OSHA inspector tour peoples bases and list off all the safety violations. I'd watch that.
At 7:02 the crane shown on the far left is actually a picture of a local one for me in Bristol, its a fun bit of history for our local area and its nice to see it
@MrBeardstone now a-days they are a part of a prominent museum and only one is partially working sadly but there should be a video of it working on youtube. Any source words I would recommend are "Bristol M-shed cranes moving" and it should lead to the correct video of them
If you want to move the crane arm while the body is moving you can try using the create interactive mod, it lets you use basically all the create contraptions on top of trains.
Quick tip, if you want the chain at the end of your crane to move relative to the position of the crane arm, you can put a second mechanical bearing at the end of it; a second bearing on a moving contraption will stay completely level, allowing you to have a consistently hanging chain from it :D
Beardstone you've probably heard of the mod create interactive, it might not be comparable but it allows you to do all sorts of things with contraptions and trains such as making a working contraption on a train
I recommend Create: Interactive. Not sure if you wanna have Valkerian Skies or not but having Create: Interactive will allow you to have contraptions on contraptions
8:17 the steam and rails addon has a tieless track, it may look closer to what you were going for if you’d like to try it out. Looks good regardless edit: just wanted to include that I’ve built a fully functioning crane with the create mod, and I did indeed have to use two gantry shafts perpendicular to each other. One in the ground to move left/right, and the other gantry shaft was in the ‘arm’ of the crane to get the forward/backward movement. Then I used the rope pulley and a bunch of redstone links (only like 10-16 max) and a redstone controller. There’s not enough buttons for right, left, forward, back, drop the crane head, and make the head grab. So I used redstone torches and sacrifice a couple movements. But I’m sure if you thought about it hard enough you could find a way around it
With your new apparel shop, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add the other Desk Mat designs as posters! I literally just bought a custom desk mat and don't need another, but I really want one of the Beardy Rail Co. Train Ticket designs to display. Hanging it up as a poster would be such a sick design!
An idea for breaking up the texture of the docks - why not, using custom paintings / pictures, have graffiti on the stone brick - as it would be a spot that would be 'vandalized' as it is a remote area.

Beardstone, if you use Valkirian skyes create interactive you can Make mechanical bearings work in the train, also interact with the train blocks like crafting table, and build on the train while it is moving, also wen the train crashes or derail, it flies away.
IF you want some lighting help for that dock, You can make the framed blocks by putting industrial iron into a stone cutter. These blocks let light through them even if they have a block in their data, so it makes for a really easy lighting system
Might be worth having a look at the Torchmaster mod? Single torch that is easy to bury and will help with the mob spawning in its radius so you don't have to light everything outdoors up and worry about spawns. Feels a little cheat-y but massive QOL improvement and not getting blown up by the random creeper.
fun fact: by crouching, you can turn a hand crank the other way! you could also just replace it with a valve to adjust in pre-set small intervals. another problem i already see coming is that none of that will work if you assemble it as a train. the solution is to have it on a gantry instead, since a gantry carriage will always assemble when stopped. you can control it with an RC connected to clutch & gearshift. Bogeys don't dissapear when they're not on tracks, you can literally just move a disassembled bogey anywhere like you would move a normal block. and you can move it along the tracks, the only thing missing is turning wheels
Moss farm would come in handy for any future projects that you need them in. I also think you should add Quark as a mod. It has a tool called a trowel that allows random placement of blocks. Might come in handy when building. Your vids are the highlight of my day btw!!
To keep on with the crane suggestions, Mechanical bearings have an interesting interaction for your usecase: when a mechanical bearing is moved by another, all structure linked to the moving one stays in the same orientation, provided they are both in the same orientation. So you absolutely _could_ have a rope pulley (potentially holding even more stuff) remaining upright when the crane arm itself moves up and down.

I myself made a crane on an oil rig in a server on Create Arcane Engineering, and it's really interesting to see how you did it cuz I did it pretty differently lol
Love this series so much. Great mix of functionality and decor. A couple of suggestions. - Add a big painting on the side of the new truck with some branding. Like a sushi restaurant or a kelp processing plant. - The crane is very monochrome. The cabin could definitely use a splotch of colour to make it stand out a bit. - Didn't you use rotateable sub-machines on the mining train, or does my memory fail me? The crane should be possible to go up and down while on a "train".
Sadly paintings don't stick to contraptions, it makes me very sad :( Not sold on the crane atm myself, I was right to be scared by it lol. And as much as I tried rotatable mining drills, it rotated the entire train hahhaa, so was a no go sadly! Glad you enjoy the series!
Have you thought about getting the Create Jetpack mod? instead of needing lava and water, it stores pressure from being given rotational power. In addition, it has a netherite tier, and the 2 tiers work with the appropriate tier of diving armor. Additionally, it still supplies air to the gadgets that need air, like the potato cannon.
on a crane, the walkway outside usually connects to the ladder down, with a door into the crane's cab. The crane, if it is on tracks, also doesn't have an arm that moves up and down, as any need for that is instead covered by moving along the track. If a crane has an arm that moves up and down, then its base is stationary. The cranes also have some form of counterweight on the back, which is half the reason that guide you put in with grindstones even exists, as it keeps the added off centered weight of a cargo-less crane from interfering with the rail tracks. Finally you're going to need to make a shipping container offloading spot in that one corner where the crane can place containers it moves while staying on its tracks, as your crane cannot rotate side to side (which is another thing limited to stationary cranes)
Mind if I suggest two Create add-on? Create aeronautics and create interactive. The former allows you to make flying machines, while the latter allows you to make things like a spinning device on a moving train, and even access storage all without disassembling the train!
Great video!! You should make a bakery where you will automaticaly get all the food that you need without having to go back to the Beardew Valley to make food. And you could get it delivered via a van. And make it a thing that you can order on your ordering train!
For the lighting part, I see this area of the map as an old industrial area, with chimneys and smoke, you can put lanterns following the docks from the time of the industrial revolution, with the beginning of electricity from the industry of the time
You should make a town far away but in the direction of the ocean and make a massive shipping container ship that transports things to that island or land
You should actually add some tugboats in case of just either wanting them to be static models just sitting there or actually connected to large ships to help tow them
If you want to have a contraption that moves independently on a parent contraption (such as a train), the only way you can do this is by installing a mod called "create interactive".
You could put your moss farm on a container ship docked at the port. That way it adds some busy-ness to the dock so it looks like shipping is happening

I've seen a lot of comments suggesting you use create interactive. I think that's a great idea but be careful and make sure you make a backup. Also double check all you create machines as something is likely to break.
It's only in older MC versions, it runs on forge, and it'll break half my world as I have contraptions that purposefully go through walls. I have no intentions of going anywhere near it, which I have said many times but the comments keep coming 😅
I forgot that Interactive was on an older version. Create still offers a lot of workarounds though, like gantry carriges and bearings on bearings if you want to make the crane usable. Some methods might not work and corrupt your world as what happend to me. Procede with caution if you decide to rework the crane.
Really loving the series!! Could use some street lamps Mr. Beardstone. Don't want those pesky mobs ruining your builds, you know. It also might add some aesthetics to your roads and dock
if you want, you could take a look at create ineteractive. it allows you to build on trains, and moving contraption. and have what you build be functional too
As everyone else is mentioning, create interactive allows trains to have moving parts. BUT, not sure how the cars will interact warping through the ground as they are currently
When I had made a dockyard crane, I did a different style of crane using gantry’s and a rope pulley to make it work and use a version inside a warehouse lifting and moving shipping containers for different storages
Hey Mr Beardy, I think you should add the Torch Master / Mega Torches mod. Lighting everything up won't be as immersive as just disabling spawns in an area and lighting things up in a realistic manner.
15:24 you could change it from being a train based system to a gantry shaft based system? that would allow you to move the crane and the arm - not sure if you could do it from aboard the crane though
I think the key to the crane is to not use a train. Maybe build it on a gantry, using a linked controller to move the crane, then the arm can be moved separately
It would be cool if you ever go overseas, you make a boat or a plane to go over to your next destination in a very different land. This idea will probably take a long time to happen, because I know there are still some things to do in the land that you are currently on. But if you ever want to find resources from other biomes that is being separated by an ocean, do make a boat or a plane.
for mine i used sheetmetals by immersive engineering so i could also change colors. i used a green and a light blue one. and the scaffolding parts in black for the arm of the crane
I would absolutely love to experience and explore your world on my own, do you ever plan on publishing your world file to the public? People could make their own improvements, innovations and additions to the world and hopefully bring the whole community together.

Just make things simple and build a static arm that doesn't move. That's how I build all my cranes and it works just fine.

Forklifts for transport vehicles fits the docks area very well. Would be a challenge building but I believe in beardie

you could use a Gantry carriage for the crane, they're a bit finiky but you'd be able to control both
If you wanted to move both the crane and arm, you could have multiple train stations around the dock to stop at.

As seen as you have got so many roads now, you should make traffic light and your own personal drivable work truck.
If you have create railways dont worry about the crane use a deployer with a wrench to the train station and thts it!!!

You can make pretty boats and ships with the Little Logistics and Little contraptions mods, no need to place underwater train tracks. Just boats

You can try to use valves, idk if it works while the train is assembled, but it allows easier movement with the arm.
I would absolutely love to experience and explore your world on my own, do you ever plan on publishing your world file to the public? People could make their own improvements, innovations and additions to the world and hopefully bring the whole community together.

You have roads, so it would be cool if you make fuel pumps where your vehicle pull in. You can combine this with a lava and water dispenser for your jetpack.
I think I'm gonna be making a drop off point that uses fuel pumps to empty, just gotta figure out where it's needed haha
