@@amber.4383 But Thailand, Vietnam, China and the USA are some of the countries that waste the most, so if they could change and start recycling or burn for energy insead of throwing into landfills, it would do a lot for the oceans and the environment.
@@wilmab4120 Yeah. I learned that landfills produce methane (like, considerably), so even replacing fossil fuels with burning trash in high temperatures for energy would be a positive change. Of course, replacing raw materials for products with recycled materials would be the best. But I'm sure that currently there is an excess of material, that doesn't need to be turned into new things - because we have too many things, and because some things are unrecyclable - so some of it can be burned. In Finland there really aren't actual landfills anymore. The one in my town has been turned into a recycling centre and the piles have been sealed to the ground, are cleaned with dry compost and some have been turned into downhill skiing slopes. I think a good option for previous landfill sites would be reforestation. The town sends a pamflet to each household annually about the sorting of the trash and where it can be dropped. Dropping sorted recyclables at the local recycling bins is free, but the trash truck charges a fee, and the recycling centre charges you for dropping your big or dangerous waste there by weight. It's cheaper for the individual to reduce and recycle their waste. But I find it's rarely talked about.
Tahia Anjum she has a TH-cam channel and blog called trash is for tossers that I believe has a few beauty products on it. And if you just search zero wards beauty products you will probably find tons of videos on it.
Being zero waste is sadly not possible if you don't live near a store where you can buy things without packets like she does in the video. I don't have any store like that nearby so I'm forced to have waste on some products. But I like her ideas about vegetables, shampoos, cleaning products, having a set of washable cutlery, etc. The only thing that is hard is taking on the habit of doing those things, not doing those things in itself
The whole goal here is to reduce your waste as much as possible and be conscious about it. Something as simple as bringing your own bag to the store is enough as long as you're doing your best. I have a purse I keep my reusable straw and utensils or I keep them in my car so they're always with me. Just get creative and mindful of your waste and you're already doing better than the majority :)
You dont have to splash out and get these all, you can still use your Tupperware for your food, you dont need to get a new toothbrush and dish brush just because there are low waste ones, keep using what you have until you NEED to replace it, *_THEN_* get the more responsible options
Dilute the shampoos (it's actually better cleaning properties for your scalp) and make your own shower gel from soap and water. It's supper easy and I've been doing it since September( my sister since march), you save lots of bottles and it's fun to make your own gel. Good luck!
I use love beauty and planet shampoo and the bottles are made from recycled plastic. Idk if that works for zero-waste but maybe you could use something like that

I do really appreciate what she strives to do and I'm impressed with her environmentalist efforts (much better than I'm doing) but I think the phrase "zero waste" needs to be changed. Creating waste is a symptom of being alive: there is no such thing as living without waste and by emphasizing the "zero" in zero waste, I think it can discourage a lot of people who want to practice better environmentalism by saying "oh, well I can never make NO waste..." Perhaps "limited consumption," "minimal waste," etc would be less dissuasive and more correct.

I like to live in Nordic countries, since here it's basic to recycle everything. You even get money when you return some of your used glass/plastic bottles and soda cans to a recycling station (let's say a bottle costs 1,20 €, you get 0,20 € back when you return it.) Paper, cardboard, glass, metal and organic waste trash cans are almost all basic in the cities' apartment complexes. In Sweden the whole society has recycled even plastic for years already, the other Nordic countries followed some time behind (correct me if I'm wrong.) I now live in Finland and it's a thing that in a couple of years from now, there will be a garbage tax for every household's unrecycled trash. As long as you recycle and throw the trash in the bins where they are meant, throwing trash away is free, but everything "mixed" will have a price.
Not to mention these countries such as Sweden also use their trash as energy to power homes and cities, and they also import garbage from other countries to use it up in this process.
Not only is she saving our earth she is helping her health as well. I say this as you can not very often find things like chips that aren’t in plastic packaging so she is saving her health. Good on you girl ♥️
No need for drastic change instantly. I was 8 when I heard about global warming and wanted to do something about it. I started turning off lights I wasn’t using, even though I was so lazy I always protested. The habit moved to turning off powerpoints to not using the aircon everyday and walking instead of driving. I’m 21 now so it may have taken a while to get to where I am but I have definitely lowered my carbon footprint and everyday I think of little ways to change. It doesn’t need to be drastic at all for you to make a difference.

Just wondering how the shipping from her company works, because unless all her shipping vehicles are electric powered specifically from a sustainable energy source her carbon footprint would be way higher then the averge person.
It’s not about eliminating all the negative aspects completely. It’s more about helping out one category that is detrimental such as plastic/ trash OR choosing to help reduce co2 emissions. start off small and slow that’s what really matters
Yes. But she could have a company AND produce a lot of waste. Demanding perfection from people who live in this world with it's limitations is wrong when they are trying to do best.
By comparison she generates more trash than the average person, but her logic is "if i am not the one who throws is into the trash, i'm not adding it into the jar even if i'm the one generating it" ,which makes the entire concept just performative environentalism at the end ,because she doesn't care about the pollution problem but just looking good herself.
The company's trash is the company's, not hers. We can compare the company to other companies, but it makes zero sense to compare a company to a person.
How do you deal with mail from, for example, the government? But, they seem to ignore the fact that they are wasting so much paper... This is just SO frustrating...

@@dalilaa8791 yes. Like I can't afford to only buy food at the farmers market so that I won't get plastic packaging. That's because farmers markets are "fresh" and "organic" so it costs more. I know they realistically can't charge people less because it cost the sellers more to only be organic, but if they could charge less then for plastic items that would solve a lot.
@@sophieminter0 I'm not sure if the place my mum goes to is the 'farmer's market' but they sell fruits and veggies at a low price without the plastic. It depends where you live but here in England there's this asian shop thats sells all vegetables at such a low price and u don't use plastic but a paper bag instead. Tho its difficult for some families as its quite far away, like a 20min drive and my mum doesnt have a car... So its difficult for my family which walks quite a bit.
Not really.if millions of people didn't use as much plastic and or do what she does so many companies would lose so much money and and places would start having less plastic because no one's coming to their shop.its starts with people and not producers/companies
It's true but consumers, especially from rich countries have a great impact on the policies of companies. By not buying from companies who use child labor or are destroying the environment they force these companies to adopt better practices. Also talking about it in social media can amplify this impact because corporations don't want to be associated with bad things.
Imagine a time where every single human being goes zero waste and all of the companies bankrupt . I whould be so happy if that happens . (I mean they will probably give up packaging and market their products as zero waste )
There is way too many haters in this comments section. How can you hate her more than someone who's littering the planet? She doesn't have to make no rubbish, but tbh one jar for five years is better than literally almost everyone. The average amercian makes more than 10,000 pounds of rubbish a year. This girl, probably less than ten. If everyone did this, there WOULD be a difference. There is no denying that there would be a difference. Almost 10,000 less pounds of rubbish. Of course, nobody said you had to do it but the fact is that she is doing more than you and more than most people. Yes it's the bigger companies causing most problems, but it doesn't mean that she should just use as much plastic as she should?? You guys hating on her are trying to be special. @@sweetestvibes6642 it does work, and a lot of stuff you already buy are made of recycled plastic or recycled paper. It's mostly that people don't do their part and throw everything into one trashbag. I see a lot of people throwing paper into plastic recycle bins and clothing into paper recycle bins, and so it all has to be screened and cleaned, which is an additional step is that makes recycling more expensive. I work in the plastics industry, a lot of our customers, big OEMs and smaller ones too are now consciouscly looking to include recycled plastic into their products. Not everything can be made from recycled plastic though, since plastic starts losing some of its original properties like toughness or fire retardance or heat retardance or impact resistance when it is being recycled (it essentially needs to be molten again and the heat reduces these properties). So things you want to be durable, for example a car bumper to save your life in an accident, it cannot be made in recycled plastics. You wouldn't want your airplane parts made out of recycled plastic, either. But many things can be manufactured from recycld plastics and companies are now increasingly make the effort to do so. Also because we are ultimately running out of oil, so ...
@Teemeah ok I don’t work recycling and in my home they recycled which is better than throwing them away to the earth, but still it is 100% better if we stop buying things cover in plastic. By that being said, where I live people “recycle” but they don’t clean their plastic and when it’s going to be processed the “batch” of plastic that is recycled is contaminated and so it can’t be used. And then we ended up with more trash. And there’s a lot of ted talks were they explain why recycling it isn’t working

I wish I lived in a place with stores like that! The town I live in has one store. Walmart. And if I want to shop somewhere else I have to drive an hour and a half to a city that also doesn’t have any whole food or zero waste stores. As a college student it can be very hard to reduce my waste and I know it’s not perfect but I like to think that the few things I can do make a difference.
Hannahh I do too. But I also live in Sweden and here most people sort the trash in to two or three different containers. One for biodegradable trash, one for plastic or aluminum bags (not everyone does this one) and one for the rest. We get free bags from the government for the biodegradable stuff since they use it as fuel for the busses and other stuff. So when I think about it the reason we probably don’t throw the trash so often is because we have three containers for it... But I don’t know how you have it so..yeah
I've been living in Thailand for a few months now, and it made me realise the importance of culture around trash. Here, when you go and buy street food, it's packaged in a plastic bag, with another plastic bag to handle it, and a smaller plastic bag of sauce inside. Your drink is in a plastic cup, which has got its own plastic bag. It doesn't matter if you're eating alone, if you take three small packs of food, they will give you three forks. Sometimes you have biodegradable stuff like banana leaf, inside your plastic container. It really highlights how you need to have around you places and shops and resources that allow you to buy package free, and people willing to do things a bit differently. Because trash is convenient and cheap. That's why I'm thankful for regulatory changes, like the prohibition of plastic single use cups and utensils.
It is! If I can give u an advice as someone whose been living low impact for about a year now: don't pressure yourself into being perfect and don't hate yourself if all your trash doesn't just for a mason jar. It's hard and sometimes expensive and honestly just reducing your waste as much as possible is good enough! 💛

In Sweden the whole society has recycled even plastic for years already, the other Nordic countries followed some time behind (correct me if I'm wrong.)
I now live in Finland and it's a thing that in a couple of years from now, there will be a garbage tax for every household's unrecycled trash. As long as you recycle and throw the trash in the bins where they are meant, throwing trash away is free, but everything "mixed" will have a price.

Does it makes you feel superior to act like you know everything about finance and the enviroment? Lmao
Stressing out over people on the internet isn’t healthy. Just chill out, don’t make a huge deal out of it and don’t bother commenting. They’ll just think you’re over the top, and writing a huge paragraph about all this just finna make you more angry and stressed about everyone. Keep the positive vibes goin, move on. A lot of people on the internet can’t be fixed and they’re too close minded to listen to others. Hope you’re doing alright, don’t let the haters bite.
@@itziza11 wheeze thanks ig, honestly you're 100% right. its only been 5 months but really learnt how to start just vibin in that time, too many people on the internet are wrong its not rly worth it 💀. i wasn't that stressed i just was quite argumentative for the Fun of Debate TM lmao, thanks tho
But her company makes and ships products all over America. So she is lying about the amount of waste she actually makes. The carbon emissions made from shipping her products are huge and the products she sells have to be in some sort of packaging with labels. While I admire that she tries her best not make too much waste she shouldn’t make a ridiculous lie that she hasn’t produced any waste other then what’s in her jar
@@ea7830 of course she is talking about her home waste. Why are people demanding perfection? She is doing more than most
You know, you could also recycle if you don’t think you can go to this extent. This is really good though
Saltynebula3475 I recommend you, go watch a video of how recycling plastic it isn’t working
Marianne do you really not realize that most plastic things these days are maked from recycled materials?
That’s what I do. I try to recycle everything I can think of. I even get my friends to as well when they visit.
When I saw the title I thought it would be about efficient packaging :p))))

Now, I just watch video. Thanks for Lauren about tips and advice for me, I think I will start living a zero-waste lifestyle because it helps me stay healthy and brings benefits for environment and climate. Thank you so much.
okay, where does she put the envelopes from mail that she recieves? What about gift wrapping from presents? Does she not buy shoes? where does the cardboard box go? Many questions, i could go on all day
wesenu terefe most likely recycles envelopes or letters. Buying shoes secondhand is a thing.
My family reuses all cardboard boxes for Christmas as well as bags. It's definitely less of a strain for cleaning up but the storage is annoying.
wesenu terefe ALL PAPER PRODUCTS CAN BE RECYCLED:)
Ummmmm......... Reusing and Recycling is a thing people ........
I think she doesn't count paper waste because all those little plastic things with which clothing price tags are attached were in her jar but no actual clothing price tags (i don't mean the fabric/plastic tags that are stitched inside clothing because she had those, just not the paper price tags)
I live zero waste!
*scoops trash and puts in jar*
*starts recording*
Isac Rancic I- 💀
wow...I am applying your methods.... thank you
I wish I lived in a place with stores like that!
For a minute and forty seven seconds, this girl did not breathe.
this is so inspirational. if someone bothers you and you do the same thing, change your ENTIRE lifestyle just to make them feel bad. 😁
Meanwhile I have to take out the trash every day
A few months ago I did that too. :D
Hannahh EVERYDAY?! Damn bro u throw away a lot
Kristy Sedlakova
I have a family
Hannahh I do too. But I also live in Sweden and here most people sort the trash in to two or three different containers. One for biodegradable trash, one for plastic or aluminum bags (not everyone does this one) and one for the rest. We get free bags from the government for the biodegradable stuff since they use it as fuel for the busses and other stuff.
So when I think about it the reason we probably don’t throw the trash so often is because we have three containers for it...
But I don’t know how you have it so..yeah
Kristy Sedlakova ok lol i have a big family soo
Did I mention that she is not only pretty on the inside but also on the outside? Like her hair is beautiful!
👍🏼🌿she made me go zero waste about 2years ago
GOOD FOR HER!!!! The earth thanks you😊❣️❣️
i love her outfit!
Wow. I never thought this possible. You've got to strongly respect this girl.
i’m on my journey to go zero waste and as a person in junior college in singapore it’s pretty tough HAHA
kokoro nah it’d be pretty easy in Singapore it’s so clean there
@@caitlinwallace8506 lol no we're just careful to throw things away in bins
oliveoakapple oh haha good luck on your zero waste journey
It is! If I can give u an advice as someone whose been living low impact for about a year now: don't pressure yourself into being perfect and don't hate yourself if all your trash doesn't just for a mason jar. It's hard and sometimes expensive and honestly just reducing your waste as much as possible is good enough! 💛
all the best!! I'm from sg too and I know it takes a lot of effort but with small changes every day we can and will make a difference!:) it's all in the baby steps!
Thank you for making a difference and inspiring me and so many others to do so too
USA should learn to decompose trash like how Singapore did, sorry if I’m offending some people. It’s just, Singapore can destroy trash in 1 day. It’s amazing
It's not offensive. It's truth! US got a lot to come up in. And I'm an American saying this.
It isn’t all of her trash.
Other People: Months without making trash.
Her: Hold my mason jar.
I am still learning about some things but I am glad that I cut A LOT of my waste and HUGE amounts of plastic... feels good!
This is amazing more people need to do this
Ik, im 2 yrs late. This is so cool. Save the environment 🌳
