you can restretch that canvas or take it somewhere for them to do it! also if the chairs are velvet - cat maybe can’t mess it up! I run my finger nails across upholstery to test - if my nails can catch a thread then the cats can tear it. also just go for the fun rug. and!! hot tip. etsy for moroccan rugs. you can get them custom made and they cost way less - takes a couple months to arrive but 100% worth it.
Also regarding furniture and cats. They make sprays that cats don’t like the smell- cat deterrent. It totally works to train them to avoid furniture you don’t want them on such as my white rattan chairs that were $2000 each!
i moved into my new place about 2 months ago and in the midst of unpacking i did in fact cry while looking at rugs in a world market so rest assured we are ALL in the same place regarding rugs and interior design
