The King James translated the Hebrew word "Sheol" as "hell" in the OT. Sheol means "the grave", not a place of torment. The King James translated a couple of Greek words in the NT all as "hell". "Hades" means the "realm of the dead" not a place of torture. "Gehenna" referred to an actual place in Jerusalem that was a burning trash dump where trash and bodies of criminals would burn almost continuously. Worms would eat the bodies. It was considered a place of evil by the Jews (who were Jesus' main audience). You're misunderstanding how jews used figures of speech related to something physcial in their lives to describe something that was real in the spiritual realms. Gehenna was used as an analogy to describe an actual spiritual realm called Hell. You don't know what you're talking about. The jews used poetic language and figures of speech to explain heavenly things. There is a Hell, a lake of fire, and people in that place (a place created by God for beings that want to be sepearated from Him) do experiences pains, woes, and torments. Sin must be paid for, that is how Justice works. And God is our Righteous Judge, He will avenge.
