    you can do this in situ (without removal). Just put the negative terminal on the chassis somewhere, and the positive on the tip of the glow plug

    Ive just bought 4 new glow plugs for my car as its done 75,000 miles now and i dont know if ever changed.
    So i will test the 4 old ones once removed just to see if they were good or not !

    One of the reasons you replace all is if ones blown the others are probably not going to last long same with injectors.

    Replace all glow plugs. Ha. I’m good. It took me an hour and a half of working mine in and out before it broke free 😂

    Hello.
    Thank you very much for your video.
    One question please:
    I need to change them. But I can buy 4 glow plugs of 0,5 ohm-s or 1 ohm-s.
    Which one is better???
    1 ohm???
    0,5 ohm??? These are cheaper, almost half price than the 1 ohm-s.
    Thank you very much.
    Have a nice day.

    Thanks for the video
    Did you know one was bad regardless?
    I usually measure mine while in the head to avoid unnecessary removal of potentially good plugs.
    Same way with positive on the tip but I put the negative lead near an unpainted ground point, in my case next to the main ground cable.
    Can also use a 12v Test Light connected to the positive battery terminal but this is less reliable unless the glow plug has completely failed and then it won't light up, although the higher the resistance the less bright the light on the test pen.

      Yup, the ECU was reporting one was bad via the OBD2 port

      @@bifkinuk I wish I had that luxury. I have a pre ODB2 Car.
      I only checked the plugs because I had misses and the car would seemingly start but die.
      Once up to operating temperature was fine.
      Glow plugs measuring 8,5 Ohms and for my vehicle they should be between 0,4 - 0,9 Ohms.
      155,000 miles and I don't think they've ever been changed, not looking forward to it.
      One plug is right in the corner between the head and injection pump bolted on the engine. Just enough room for a socket on an extension.

    Sorry, but I thought the positive lead had to be on the tip of the glow plug!!!

      You are right positive lead has to be placed on the tip of the glow plug because the body acts like a ground because it is fitted in the engine head which acts as ground aswell.

    you're just measuring resistance, but does it glow well is the question

    • @bifkinuk
      @bifkinuk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't bother doing further tests as one failed the resistance test. I knew I needed 4 new glowplugs regardless of how well they would perform in a glow test.

    It's more useful to test them while they are still in place, then you'll know whether you need to remove them at all.

    • @bifkinuk
      @bifkinuk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True but I knew one was bad and it's better to replace all at same time as they were old

    Unecessary to change all 4

    Use an amp meter. Much better for testing.
