What an incredible programme. Never saw it at the time, and speaks volumes for the wonderfully eccentric way in which BBC approached entertainment in those days. Sophisticated talk and humour not afraid to include bawdy smut from Kenneth Williams. If only the BBC and other channels had the wit and wisdom to do this type of show today, but it would be totally lost on today's generation.
Absolutely fantastic and a brilliant hybrid nix of ways to recall past days. The host was also superb with no ego or shouting. It's rare to see Kenneth Williams so himself and without all the playing to the crowd. An emotional and intelligent man of depth.
It would, sadly, bore the arse off them and rightly so. The BBC, like almost all entertainment organisations make programmes for their audience and if that audience changes, which all audiences do, then they must change. The shouldn't make programmes for 'superiors'.
@@Omnicient. Playing down to the lowest common denominator is precisely why we have such rubbish, low brow, TV today. Unless we are offered different visual/aural experiences then we will never grow intellectually.

Regardless of the evident dumbing down of programmes and the absolute lack of any originality, the BBC is now so utterly against this country, it is inconceivable that a programme such as this, could ever be broadcast again. The BBC are also responsible for the dumbing down what with the myriad of legal action being taken against them for their ahistorical documentaries produced, simply to alter historical fact and push a narrative of untruth. The usual thread they like to weave is that of the 'multitude of black people in the UK' at the times of Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Magna Carter etc.... all utterly and provably false, achieving outrage amongst historians and revealing their sinister intention to pollute the minds of today's youth with a totally fraudulent idea of their countries history.
