    Thank you for your video. I watched so many idiots who post their repair videos with music or weird things. Your very helpful.

    Excellent video, you certainly help a lot of people deal with a frustrating issue.
    This is an issue with low cost fans, these mounts are low quality. Fans that use a nylon/plastic "ball joint" do not have this issue. Check before you buy.

    Really great point on fixing the problem, not masking the symptom with weight kit

      incorrect, weighting the blades is necessary as well, otherwise the issue will just come back and worse. blades are often wood, absorbing moisture and changing density over time, eventually a rebalancing is needed, which usually involves weights. even though i know we all hate putting weights on blades.

    Most times with old fans some of the screws on the blades loosen making uneven heights maybe by you dismantling the fan the way you did fixed the problem.... honestly think about it why would what you did do anything to fix it ? The ball on the other side of that lets it tilt what is that for just a random thought?

    Hey Mike,
    I am planning to buy metal or iron bracket to replace the plastic ones. Is that okay to fix my very wobbly fan?

  • @MattMendians
    @MattMendians ปีที่แล้ว

    My old fan in my kitchen moves back and forth when I move it. I want to replace sometime soon but does this sound like the same situation? Or is there screws somewhere that might just need to be tightened? It doesn’t wobble when fan is on much. Also has anyone tried to replace the light fixture and was it worth it? I guess I’m trying to put off the cost and job I have never done yet, replacing a ceiling fan!

    it would be interesting to know how long this fix will work for. my thought is the metal will just be weaker and bend faster over time now that it has been bent twice. but what is faster compared to the first time. 6 years, 10 years ? I expect a follow up video in 15 years with the results!

      this is an excellent point mr muffin! You are 100% right and there's no way to deny the physics of what you are describing. So far so good...but when the issue re occurs it's probably time for my cheap ass to buy a new fan haha...im just really frugal and wanted to milk this dealie as long as i could. At the end of the day though, a poor design, cheap parts...etc. No bueno.

      @@everythingmikedoes8202 why new fan, just get a new support?

  • @tomtankyou1282
    @tomtankyou1282 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    its the out of balance blades that causes the bending in the support bracket. You should balance the fan when you first install it, then you won't end up with this bending force on that bracket.

      Hey Tom, thanks for tuning in my friend. You've got a great point. Certainly, balanced blades from the get go are absolutely necessary. Every time the fan starts though, there is a strong torque force acting upon this bracket, regardless of blade balance. Over a long time the physics of that will bend cheap brackets such as the one I've got on mine. I wish the previous owner had put a better fan in. Oh well it still works and has got years more life in it. Cheers!

      @@everythingmikedoes8202what kind of fan do you have? Never seen one just go 0 to 100? Don't they gradually speed up? And what are the balls for that lets the fan and lights move😅

  • @smack80

    I checked my fan blades and indeed two of the Blade brackets were not in alignment with the other three. when I set them all down the the floor next to each other, one was 1 cm higher and another was 0.5 cm higher. So I tried bending an offending bracket back into shape... and immediately snapped the metal. And I can't find a replacement with the same dimensions. Now I have to replace the whole fan, or just have a large light fixture.

      When adjusting the pitch of the blade brackets , You have to be very careful not to bend them too much or they will break because they're made of die cast metal and die cast metal parts will break easily
      The best alternative is to use weights to balance the blades if the pitch is off considerably , The most common problem with ceiling fan wobble is that the pitch of the blades are not always the same but you can twist the blade bracelet a little bit but do it very slowly , If adjusting the pitch doesn't quite fix it , Then use weights ,
      Be patient , Balancing the blades does take some time and patience , I've installed around 60 ceiling fans and almost every fan I put up , I had to balance the blades
      Another factor is because the blades are wood , They may not weigh the same and that's when you'll need some weights to balance the blades

    Anyone see a wobble with a 36 inch rod? My builder said it is common, but I think they are being lazy

    • @everythingmikedoes8202
      @everythingmikedoes8202  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Dip, that is frustrating. How bad is the wobble? They should be able to adjust things and balance her out. Lazy indeed. Could also be a lower quality unit? Perhaps if the rod itself and the mounting apparatus are not so stiff it could allow the unit to wobble more readily? None the less, physics is physics and a balanced fan that does not wobble is not asking too much. Best regards my friend

      I have a fan with at least a 2-3 foot rod that I need to address... It does not even wobble bad but it will make a little noise like something is touching when it's been running for over an hour
      Goin g to attempt to relube all the berrings and check the housings well
