- All eyes are on Grande Prairie as the northern Alberta city bids adieu to the RCMP and welcomes its own municipal police service. "GP" becomes the first Alberta city since Camrose in 1956 to introduce a new police service, and both proponents and critics of Premier Danielle Smith's plan to establish a provincial police force will be paying close attention to how the transition plays out.
2:30 | Mayor Jackie Clayton explains the move away from the RCMP, how she thinks the Provincial Priorities Act will impact Grande Prairie (19:00), municipal political parties (26:17), GP's approach to clearing homeless encampments (34:30), cost of living and skyrocketing utilities (41:55), her take on the future of hydrogen (45:30), Premier Danielle Smith's musings about Red Deer as a city of million people (47:40), the Alberta is Calling campaign (51:00), her hesitation around "15 Minute Cities" (52:40), and the looming wildfire season (57:20).

Good job Jackie! I think by the end of the interview you were 100,000% in agreement.
Rural municipal leaders in Alberta have said that they oppose an Alberta Provincial Police Force, because they say it will cost at least $1 billion.
The last premier of Alberta was under investigation by the R.C.M.P for how he attained his position of power.
This is the only reason why the UCP wants the R.C.M.P replaced with a provincial police force.
A former Alberta PC cabinet minister, under Peter Lougheed, who was the Attorney General, said that Danielle Smith's ethics breaches were breaking the law, and required investigating.
You think because someone is under investigation that it would cause the province to consider a provincial police force??? Bahahaha, plus if anything came out of your so-called investigation, I think we’d of seen something on the liberal news feed by now. All I know is the b.s. carrying on around here with theft, property damage, personal harm, I’d welcome a change from the RCMP here. Be happy to see how it works out for GP.
Open your mind. Oop ? Qpd? Open your eyes new Apd? I’m in
@@wesharris8770 Rural municipal leaders in Alberta know what they are talking about. Where will they get the over $1 billion to pay for this provincial police force? That's right, the municipal property taxes will go up even more, which is one of the reasons why they oppose this. The UCP doesn't know a thing about being fiscally responsible, because they have done well over $80 billion in very costly debacles and mistakes. The UCP have only carried on with the fiscal ineptitude and poor planning that the Alberta PCs did ever since Don Getty was premier of Alberta. Also, the UCP doesn't care about the vulnerable, seniors, medical professionals, teachers, students, rural property owners, the environment and democracy in Alberta.

GP Mayor not popular with the chat echo chamber, smart lady that totally makes sense about her approach to managing a city,
The Real Talk audience is much more diverse than what the most ardent contributors to the live chat may indicate! -rpj
@@RealTalkRJ LOL oh ok
RCMP don't do sh!t in G.P. I've had a truck stolen, dirt bike stolen and storage unit robbed on separate occasions, 2/3 with surveillance on site. RCMP response was "hope you have insurance"
Gotta wonder if it'd be any different with a provincial or municipal police service... -rpj
@@RealTalkRJ Who the police are accountable too is important. The RCMP is ran like a corporation
Sad thing is RCMP could be on a different level of loyalty.🌪️😱They always seem to be standing back⁉️
I hear ya, the damage and stuff being stolen around Grimshaw is getting ridiculous. Wonder how long it’ll be till we see vigilantes. I know a lot of people are at the breaking point around here.
@@RealTalkRJMost likely he's influenced by Smith and her authoritarian ideas!! 🙄
Ryan why aren’t you still on tv?/radio?
Those platforms unalived themselves
Northern Alberta town.
So what she is saying is if you aren’t conservative you don’t deserve a voice. That is crap
You had your voice and it was the biggest screwup since Pearl Harbour
@@peterbutz642The biggest screwup are the UCP, who have only carried on with the fiscal ineptitude and poor planning that the Alberta PCs did, ever since Don Getty was premier of Alberta.
So far, the UCP have made well over $80 billion in very costly debacles and mistakes, and the UCP have also given Alberta a mammoth debt that is now nearly $140 billion.
In addition, the UCP have treated the vulnerable, seniors, medical professionals, teachers, students, rural property owners, the environment and democracy in Alberta with disdain.
@@dwaynewladyka577 Yup that Alberta has best economy in Canada and over 200,000 people moved here last year if you don’t like Alberta move nothing stopping you Try BC where NDP have absolutely screwed up that province We gave NDP a chance and we absolutely destroyed Alberta it’s taken 6 years to get back on track And if your Liberal support they’ve been the biggest fk up since Pearl Harbor, that’s why people are chomping at the bit to get to the polls to remove these crooks
@@dwaynewladyka577if Notleys govt was so great, why aren’t they in power now?? Hmmmm…………🤔🥴
@@chadtosh6831 pretty simply. Oil prices. What happens when oil drops, whoever is in power either has to cut services or go into debt. Pretty much a no win time for whoever is in power.
Smart thoughtful lady. She should be premiere instead of this disastrous Smith government.
Time for a change by by RCMP
Rural municipal leaders in Alberta oppose an Alberta Provincial Police Force, because they say it will cost at least $1 billion. The UCP doesn't care about what they want. Rural Albertans made a big mistake by supporting the UCP, who has done absolutely nothing that helps them.
GP mayor is a 15 minute city wacko. Shocking.
I don't want to have to drive if i want to go to work. How is that a bad thing? We're not abolishing cars. That would be needlessly expensive. We're not forcing people to a range of movement. It's literally just urban planning.
@@JonathanSicoli we are in agreement. She was starting to agree with more wacko conspiracy talking points.
@@MetaModern87 suppose so. Just easy to hear that as "people who endorse urban planning are going to like, track you through your blood or something". Not your fault
