  • The Shark IQ (RV1001AE) is a robot vacuum with great navigation, wifi connectivity, and a self-emptying dust bin. But how well does it actually clean? Let's find out now!

    #Shark
    Should you buy the Shark IQ?
    I would recommend the Shark IQ if you want the following in a robot vacuum:
    Hands-off vacuuming: The Shark IQ is designed to be a vacuum you don’t have to worry about. Smarter navigation helps to keep this vacuum from getting stuck or going in places it doesn’t belong.
    Self-emptying dust bin: The large capacity, bagless dust bin in the Shark IQ docking station can hold up to 30 loads of debris from the on-board dust bin. This allows you to forget about emptying the bin for a couple weeks at a time.
    A great value: Considering all of the features on the Shark IQ, the price point really is exceptional.

    The horrible software completely ruins this vacuum! If anyone sees this comment in the future, BEWARE the Shark robot vacuums. Their mapping functionality is straight up broken when you command it to clean specific rooms. Over half of the time, it will not do the correct room and then dock as if it finished. I want my vacuums done daily, and over half of the time I tell it to do a bathroom it will do my kitchen and then stop. I have to try on average 3 times before it finally does the bathroom. Lots of people complain about the exact same issue online too.

    Don't buy this one if you live with someone with hairs. I bought this robot because it came with a dustbin so that I wouldn't manually clean it up too frequently. However, it got stuck like twice a day. Fixing it is much more miserable than cleaning up the dustbin.

      The thing I didn’t get until after I got a robot was the effect of cleaning frequency. I used to vacuum once a week, but my robot does it every day while I’m at work. So even if it only gets 85% of the dirt on it’s first day, it’ll get 85% of what it missed the next day, and 85% of what it missed that day on the third day, and so on.
      Assuming I add 1/7th of a week’s worth of dirt each day, it works out to the robot leaving ~ 2% of dirt after 5 days. I can live with my house being consistently 2% dirtier (roughly 3 hours worth of dirt). Plus I don’t have to deal with my house getting dirtier and dirtier throughout the week.
      I also don’t make a habit of spilling cheerios or sugar on my carpet every day, and if I do, my Dyson’s still right there in the closet.

      I have the same problem and I reached out to Shark support. They asked bunch of questions which I have already provided them in my first email. They kept asking more question after 5-6 email chain. Then, their answers was exactly like this : "We would like to advise you that this is still being looked into, and once it is determined what is causing this issue it will be resolved through an update to the robot or the app. You will not be notified when that happens." It hasn't been fixed yet and I don't think they're going to fix it. Shark robots aren't smart like they said. The navigation system is crap. The only good thing is suction if you compare to other smart robots. I already bought a braava m6. I'll planning to buy a irobot for my the next robot if shark still keeps not fixing these problems...

    Anyone have cats and using this unit? I have the iRobot 960 and it does well with hair (rollers and brush are like a rubber and the hair doesn't often get caught or tangled). That's fine. But I am tired of it getting stuck and constantly emptying the bin and cleaning sensors etc. Sometimes it can't even get itself lined up properly on the charging station. I am going to return it as for the price I am not satisfied. This shark is on sale so I would like to try it out if some pet owners could chime in. Thanks!

      We didn't test the Shark IQ against cats...but knowing what I know about the general performance level of the 960 and Shark IQ I am confident in saying that if you're disappointed with the 960's performance, the Shark is going to disappoint even more. It just doesn't have the suction power of the 960.
      In our tests, we also experienced some clogging issues on the IQ due to the small dust bin.

Whether or not you bring the base to the 2nd level your map will never be right as it will merge the 2 floors into 1 and will be useless for navigation on either floor.. If you move the robot to the 2nd level without moving the base, same result. messed up useless map. Luckily I only have 1 level.. They are on sale @ Costco right now for $100 off. Might be a good time to get another for the 2nd level? The app will accommodate multiple robots & I assume it will create a map for each one?

      Unfortunately, I'm not sure.
      When we initially tested the Shark IQ we had trouble getting the app to work. I was hoping the app had been improved in the months since we tested, but it seems not.
      We ran multiple cleaning sessions over the weekend so the Shark IQ could generate a map, however, it never did. Without an active map I cannot create the keep out zones / lines (whichever it is)...and Shark doesn't specific (at least as far as I could find) on their website or other product pages.

      Roomba i3+
      Roomba i3+ performed equal to or better than Shark's IQ in virtually every criteria. Many i3+ packages don't' include them, but i3+ is compatible with virtual barrier walls - amzn.to/33urXHE
      i3+ is massively better than 677, but has a similar performance level to the e5. Biggest difference between e5 and i3+ is the clean base.

      @daquan99999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the question before but after thinking a little bit more, I don't think it will work well with multiple floors even the app supports it. Because the battery life is relatively short, it will not have enough power to clean multiple floors without recharging. And the size of the charge base is significantly bigger than normal, it is not convenient to move the vacuum and the base to a different floor so often. So at this price point, I think a better solution is to buy additional one for the second floor.

      @ModernCastle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@itunnu5103 We haven't tested the L900, but in general we liked the Coredy we did test (the R500+ and R3500).
      In general, I think suction power is a good metric to look at, but I would be surprised to find that the L900 is a better cleaner than the S9+.
      Suction power aside, we've only had 4 robot vacuums (out of the 50+ we've tested) remove an average of 99%+ or our cleaning tests, those include the Roomba S9+, i7+, i3+, and e5. So even the relatively lower suction power of the e5 is sufficient. In my view, the brushrolls are just as much of a factor in cleaning performance as raw suction power.
      While I don't know the exact suction power of the Shark IQ, others have also said in the comments that it's higher than Roomba. Even so, the cleaning performance just isn't there...most likely due to the brushroll design.

Then it spins around a couple of times and goes up at it again. Very annoying if you are home and hearing it do that. One particular problem: sliding glass door tracks. It is NOT programmed to handle those at all. It should never try to get over something that sticks up 1/2 inch off of the floor - there are no rugs made like that. It does get up a lot of stuff but it could be waaaay better with just some software improvements. I like the self-emptying without bags! That's what turned me off of the other one.

    We bought one almost a month ago and run it almost every day - DON'T BUY THIS ONE! After all my research, The IQ seemed to be highly rated and said to clean well although there were some issues noted with the programming and lack of box out zones. These are in fact real issues. First, where she ( we call her "Berta" ) cleans she does a very nice job. Design wise, mechanics and cleaning wise I have no complaints. However, you definitely need a bot with zones that you can block out and who's programming is more advanced. If things get moved it tends to cause problems and she does not really do a thorough job when you check her map for what she has done. Her pattern makes no sense and she really doesn't seem to learn very well. All in all her cleaning ability is excellent for picking up, cracks, corners etc i'd give her a 9 out of 10 but her ability to learn and adapt and do an efficient and thorough pattern is like a 4 so overall, 6.5. I live on an island so returning her isn't a viable option or I would and get a different bot. Her self emptying is a great feature as is her removing hair by herself from the rollers. Good Luck
