    I think that knowledge + experimentation x perseverance = success.
    But the experimental part always leads to failures that test perseverance. But also increases the knowledge and prevents the dreaded hubris in us all.
    Great vid

    Thank you for the video. I knew very little about this species. Two weeks ago I purchased two Banggai Cardinals from a fish store. They do not spend much time next to each other. (75 gallon long tank.) Do you think one might kill the other in the near future?
    I was thinking about introducing more of them to create a school. I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not.

    Great video, thanks for the upload. My cardinals bred in my community tankxi was so excited to watch him swimming and moving the eggs around in his mouth but then halfway through he swallowed all the eggs so now I'm thinking this was down to inexperience and possibly tank mates or not building up enough body fat.
    Once again great video, well written and produced and very informative.

    • @PrestigeReef
      @PrestigeReef  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Mania, If you start feeding them twice a day they will probably do it again :)

    • @Mania28
      @Mania28 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prestige Reef will do.
      I know this in unrelated but I'd like to pick your brains. I have a reef tank with peaceful tank mates. I recently added a firefish over a week ago and he's only come out once to eat something then I've not seen him for quite a few days now even at feeding time. I know they can be incredibly shy but what can I do to bring him out of his shell (cave). Shall I add another two firefish to build up his confidence and bring him out?

    • @PrestigeReef
      @PrestigeReef  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      He should come out on his own when he's ready, just make sure nothing is picking on him. I wouldn't add another firefish. Sometimes wrasses hide for weeks before they are ready to come out. My yellow belly disappeared for 15 days

    • @Mania28
      @Mania28 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prestige Reef ok, thanks for the response, I won't buy anther firefish then based on what you've said. Hopefully, he'll come out soon, fingers crossed.

    Their were 5 at the fish store and I just picked 2 and apparently I got very lucky. One day I seen a baby in the overflow. So the other ones got eaten in guessing. Now just the other day I seen them doing some type of matting thing and recorded it with one vibrating.

      daveonbass79 interesting to hear, what were you doing?

    • @daveonbass79
      @daveonbass79 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the babies in a hang on the back refugium. I had it on the side of the tank so that I could monitor everything. It was fed directly from the main display, and the out feed went back into the main display...so it had a constant supply of clean display water. I started on day one with frozen rotifers...and because the HOB refuge was so small...the frozen food tumbled around really well. However...the babies never would swallow the food. Occasionally they would eat it...but then quickly spat it out. It was about 4 or 5 days into it...and the yolks were used up...and I was losing babies from them now eating that I quickly switched to live BBS. They always are those well...and I happened to have two "disc hatcheries" that required zero "work" that made the whole process quite easy. Use one hatchery for two days and I'm between get the second one started and back and forth till the babies are larger foods. Eventually I had to move them to my larger (but empty) frag tank...still the same system...and they readily ate frozen meaty foods.

      The only fish I've "bred" was a freshwater molly. I got her pregnant and I didn't even know it, but on new years eve I woke up and there 7 tiny black babys hiding in the live plants. I put them in a separate container and eventually bought a net to put them in the main tank. Only one has survived but I think he/She will live to adulthood so I'm excited to see my first baby

    @caewalker9276 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    My god I must be bad. My banghi cardinal male keeps swallowing the fry.
    The way that I sex banghi cardinals is by their vents. On a full belly , check underneath and the males should have 2 vents and females should have 1. I use a magnifying glass. Thers an article about it on the net but I can't remember what it's called. A lady scientist wrote a paper on sexing them by vents and it's meant to be 100% accurate.

    • @PrestigeReef
      @PrestigeReef  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cae Walker thank you for your contribution.
      I agree that is a method which is meant to work however they can only really be seen in adult specimens

  • @daveonbass79
    @daveonbass79 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also....there is an easy way to sex the banggai fish. Underneath...just in front of their last large black stripe that runs down their lower long fin...they have devolved ventral/anal fins. They are very small...but they can be seen with the naked eye. The males have two...and females have only one. They are basically either one tiny spike/bump or two tine spikes/bumps. As long as you have two fish that are different "down there" then you have a male and a female. If you only have one fish...then find out if it has two or one of those bumps...then go to a store and look for a fish that's a good size that has the opposite number of bumps.

    • @PrestigeReef
      @PrestigeReef  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the contribution :), you are correct this is a method to sex them although usually the vents are only clearly visible in larger specimens. I've had trouble with sexing smaller specimen but I'm no expert

    • @daveonbass79
      @daveonbass79 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prestige Reef yes...thats correct. This is for fish big enough to breed.
