haha yeah Top 10s are great aren't they - lots of obvious ones here but I was trying to make it as honest as possible....and going obscure would have been dishonest for the first 10 - going to do another one soon though with some more great short stories.
Interesting list! I love a good short story. I've made note of some of your recommendations I'm not familiar with. Have you read any Cordwainer Smith? He's probably my favourite short story writer in science fiction. A good place to start is his mind-boggling tale 'Scanners Live in Vain'.
I read one of Cordwainer Smith's novels and I thought it was quite crazy hahaha - I didn't feel that there was a lot grounding it, but I will try out his short stories.
Very nice list. Mine would start with "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by Ursula K. Le Guin. Kurt Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron" would rank high. And "Tower of Babylon" by Ted Chiang. I love a great short story.
Some real favorites on the list. There is a very good short story from a surprising author E. M. Forster, it's called The Machine Stops. It is an excellent short story. Have you ever heard of it?
Great list. I still love Ballard's 'The Drowned Giant' as my most memorable. Might be some Aldiss i need to re-read as well.
Yeah I need to read more Aldiss - there is a Ballard book event coming soon....about to be announced - that you might be interested in....
You had me at TOP 10!

Yeah that's fair enough - and the Vonnegut one is very good!!

No I need to look that one up.
