Hey Brian, hope you see this comment, one quick thing at around the 7 minute mark you say the hotel is about a year old, it actually is quite a bit older, just they made insane renovations to it. It used to be extremely small and the entire lobby is brand new (lobby used to be right on edge of Grand and Nizuc). Just letting you know in case anyone has brought that up in a question or anything about it. I’ve been going to Moon Palace for roughly 10 years now, i think ive been there a dozen times or so, and I have to say this review was phenomenal. You said you didnt really get to check out Nizuc and Sunrise much and since you have many people emailing you I think I have a few things that could help. The quality of everything (food, drink, service, entertainment) is the same across the board: all fantastic. I would say the Grand used to be the quietest of the 3 but now I would say that Nizuc is. Sunrise is definitely nicer than Nizuc, as the rooms are bigger. The rooms in each of the 3 hotels are also different in shape and size, I believe the Grand has the biggest, but in terms of the suites, sunrise has in my opinion the nicest living/dining room (one could easily disagree). In terms of being able to go to the grand if you stay at sunrise or nizuc, we stayed at Sunrise in May and were able to go to the Grand freely and werent told to leave, this was without day pass. I dont know if this means we just werent caught but we had dinner reservations at the steakhouse and ate there no problem. I believe you just need day pass for water park, because we could use spa at the grand too. On top of that as of May the slides at the water park were still down as I heard (dont know if true or not) that inspectors failed the slides and they were bringing in another company. Hope this helps, I’ve enjoyed all my experiences at Moon Palace and thought you represented it perfectly. If you ever go back I would definitely recommend checking out the other 2 hotels in the resort!
Thanks. Yes, I had heard that the Grand used to be more of the smaller vacation owners area. I didn’t want to go there and since they did such a huge Reno, it’s essentially new for the most part. Great comments on the other resorts. When I was there, I saw people even getting turned away at the boulangerie because they weren’t staying at the Grand and didn’t have the proper wristband. They were enforcing it at this time. I may book again this year, it’s so hard to book the same place though when there are so many other fabulous resorts down the coast.

I have been a member for 12 years. we currently hold diamond membership. Yes its expensive but the old saying you get what you pay for apply here. Especially if you have a family and you like spa and golf, there is nothing like it.
Im english been here twice 13 yo some of my best memories went 2017 Easter and 2018 summer for 2 weeks and going a third time in 2020 easter CANT FORKIN WAIT
Stayed there last year and it was phenomenal, especially the food! Only negatives were the beach (not as nice as the hotel district, though you can visit their sister resort) and the sound system for the shows in the theater wasn't very good. But the hotel is gorgeous and the resort is massive. Well worth it.

This resort might not be the perfect fit for you. I'd pick something in the hotel zone in Cancun. You guys will have a blast down there. This one is better for families I'd say. Have fun and be safe!

Hello, we are planning a trip to the grand in June. We are big Ont ocean and water sports. Hoping by kayak, maybe wind surf, swim. Is the beach there suitable for this and do they include kayaks and all in your al inclusive package?
I agree on the beds, it seems like double is the standard. I don't know any couple that sleeps on a double. We sleep on a king & sleeping on a double isn't comfortable.
Yes it is a true all inclusive. There a few buffets but thats it, all the rest are regular restaurants. Only two need reservations, the steakhouse and the adult only french one. The resort credits are mainly for excursions and spa treatments however they limit on how much you can use for the spa and you need to pay a tax on what you use. Still an alright deal in my opinion. Had some friends do the dolphin swim with their credits and it turned out to be a good deal. There's nothing that you have to pay for other than extras that would cost you at any other resort like Golf, spa etc. Hope this helps. BTW, I just booked again for the end of the year

Fantastic review .....great content ......we are travelling from Scotland for our two week stay in July. We booked the grand so we didn’t require to pay daily for access, so my question is this, Have we done the right thing? Or are the facilities equal at the sunrise and nazuc. Not overly concerned about the room key thing but the bed thing is a concern ....agree two queens would be better x
+Karen Kennedy The Grand is on a whole other level than the other 2. You’ll immediately feel that when you do to the other resorts. It is still nice to visit the others as they both have different things to offer but the restaurants, buildings, rooms etc or way better. Enjoy!

The shows and activities are on screens throughout the resort plus they also announce it on speakers located throughout the resort. If you’ve never been to Cancun and Riviera Maya, you might want you take a tour maybe to the ruins if you’re into that. We’ve been several times so for us, it’s just stay in the resort for R & R. Have fun!
The water may only get slightly cooler in the months of Dec and Jan, however in the months of June, July and August the water is almost too warm! Great video as I'm going in July :)

I suggest going to the normal moon palace because both of their lobbies, both Nizuic and Sunrise, have wayyyy better food and if you stay in the cold course vilas, you get a golf cart so you can travel between the two lobbies. Both lobbies have large pools and the sunrise has a “wave runner” which is very fun.
My family and I have went to the waterpark and my mom was complaining about how unsafe the drop-down water slide is. If you got stuck on loop, you be stuck there for a few hours.
Depends where your room is could be 30 ft or 400 ft. It’s nothing. If you watch part 3 I walk it in about 7.5 min from one end to the other. Helps burn all the calories you intake. You can always take a golf cart but we walked most of the time.
Thx, awesome video. Question regarding the food ... we like more plain, "regular" food, and don't really like sea food. I see lots of octopus, clams, sushi, fish heads, etc in this video. Is there other options at most places? Rice, pasta, pizza, chicken, steak, etc?
I visited Moon Palace many years ago. However the brand that I am familiar with is Palace resorts. Is this the same chain but a different name or is this another line of resorts?
Palace member here, been going to Moon Palace for years. I think it's absurd that you need to pay for a day pass to use the Grand. Wonder if this applies to lobby bar, club, adult pool, etc. Went last July and were free to enter the Grand for those things mentioned.

This will be the first All Inclusive Holiday (Vacation-we are English) we have ever taken and was wondering is there ANYTHING we have to pay extra for? i.e. the mini bar? We have been on a few cruises and there are several things and places you have to pay extra for so you have to be a bit careful so can anyone let me know please? We will be staying at the Grand. Depends what you like to do. If its action and nightlife, probably not the right resort, there are a lot of families, however they do have a nightclub, never went in though since we had the kids with us. If you want a good place to chill, its a great spot with good food and they do have an adult only pool if you don't want to have kids around you.
Yes we always go in Dec/Jan and the water is fine. Its not super warm so can feel a little chilly if its not sunny out. If the sun's shining, we're in there!
Awesome review. So many questions... I apologize in advance. How bad are the mosquitoes there? How is the quality of the Asian restaurant, sushi/fish? Are there restaurants where lobster or crab are not extra? How would this place compare to Hyatt Ziva? You sound like you can be on TV. Again great review.
I didn’t have any issue but I never flew at low altitudes or over people. I took off from a quiet area and went straight up I’ve seen some people that launched from the pool and flew around, that’s so wrong and it’s because of actions like this that will ruin it for those responsible flyers just wanting to get some nice aerials without bothering anyone. The only time I was lower was at the beach when there was no one around.

How much is the difference when you booked between the Grand and Nizuc? No official word on when the big waterslides will be open. There are lots of rumours flying around but no actual word from the resort group themselves.
I didn't mention it mainly because everyones price will be different from where they come from. The hotel without flight for 7 days was about $3000 CDN for our family of 4.

All depends on what type of room, time of year makes a HUGE difference as well. How old are your kids? For our family it’s about $2700 USD for 1 week near the end of November. Over Christmas and that will triple if there’s even availability.
We've been to moon palace twice and grand once. We found the last time to be so boring! I think it's very much a family resort and great for kids but after 1 week you just get bored. Trying something more central this time
How long did you stay each time? What made it boring for you? Lack of activities?night life, pool games, etc. Just curious. Like I said in the review, I've been to quite a few places down the coast as far as Akumal and they all seem to offer the same type of format but I thought the Grand really had lots to do. Each time we stayed for 2 weeks and I can't deny that it is amazing, we loved it the first time. The staff and food are amazing and the pools (especially at the grand) are great. We just found that in the second week, we were a bit bored because had seen it all and done most things and I think because it's not very central we were stuck there. I think with kids it would be different because there is so much for families. We are going to the Riu Palace Peninsula in June, to see what it's like being central. I'd reccomend moon palace and the grand the everyone, I think the novelty just wore off for us.
Yeah with kids it slows things down quite a bit so in a week, we barely touched on what the resorts have to offer. I've always wanted to go for 2 weeks but all my Mexico trips have always been only 7 days. I've always wondering if 2 weeks is too long. We've done most of the tourist things around the Mayan before we had the kids so now it's just R & R in the resort for the next few years which I'm good with.
You do realize you can take a taxi and go to their other hotels like beach palace or sun place right? And those hotels have the one thing lacking at the moon. The beach is great.

I was wondering, some people mention toiletries, ie shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower gel etc. Are these just a one off or are the supplied throughout your stay. I THINK its located between grand and nizuc? what was explained to us is that these are like "hotel" rooms. there is no living room area but a small kitchen. and I think its located on the golf course. I was reluctant bc all you ever hear of is the 3. it also might be due to some technicalities for exchanging our timeshare location for cancun

There are adult only areas including an adults only pool. The French restaurant is also Adults only as is the nightclub.

the first year the grand opened you were allowed to go even if you were in nizuc or the sunrise as ive been there many times before i knew this

Was there a concert stage test there at the resort?
Not that I know of. The last time we were there though, there was a large stage being setup for a private function.

The grand is quite expensive compared to some other places that are less quality but great for price.
They used to be affordable. Huge demand now so huge prices. Where do you like to go?
I just came back from that place and mannn! That place is incredible! Our kids loved it as well very much we are definitely coming back!

Thx, awesome video. Question regarding the food ... we like more plain, "regular" food, and don't really like sea food. I see lots of octopus, clams, sushi, fish heads, etc in this video. Is there other options at most places? Rice, pasta, pizza, chicken, steak, etc?

I visited Moon Palace many years ago. However the brand that I am familiar with is Palace resorts. Is this the same chain but a different name or is this another line of resorts?
Palace Resorts is the brand. The Grand is another resort in addition to the regular Moon Palace that you’re familiar with.
Palace member here, been going to Moon Palace for years. I think it's absurd that you need to pay for a day pass to use the Grand. Wonder if this applies to lobby bar, club, adult pool, etc. Went last July and were free to enter the Grand for those things mentioned.
Just got back from atlantis about a month ago ..loved it super nice place...I think I'm going to check the grand out next... wonder which will be better

This will be the first All Inclusive Holiday (Vacation-we are English) we have ever taken and was wondering is there ANYTHING we have to pay extra for? i.e. the mini bar? We have been on a few cruises and there are several things and places you have to pay extra for so you have to be a bit careful so can anyone let me know please? We will be staying at the Grand. Depends what you like to do. If its action and nightlife, probably not the right resort, there are a lot of families, however they do have a nightclub, never went in though since we had the kids with us. If you want a good place to chill, its a great spot with good food and they do have an adult only pool if you don't want to have kids around you.

Great review. Would the water in the water park be warm enough if one were to visit closer to Christmas? Were you able to enjoy the water in January?
Yes we always go in Dec/Jan and the water is fine. Its not super warm so can feel a little chilly if its not sunny out. If the sun's shining, we're in there!
Awesome review. So many questions... I apologize in advance. How bad are the mosquitoes there? How is the quality of the Asian restaurant, sushi/fish? Are there restaurants where lobster or crab are not extra? How would this place compare to Hyatt Ziva? You sound like you can be on TV. Again great review.
thejunglekarma mosquitoes well didint have many when i went and the asian restaurant was good but i prefer the all you can eat buffet

Hello did you have a hard time flying your drone around the resort?
I didn’t have any issue but I never flew at low altitudes or over people. I took off from a quiet area and went straight up I’ve seen some people that launched from the pool and flew around, that’s so wrong and it’s because of actions like this that will ruin it for those responsible flyers just wanting to get some nice aerials without bothering anyone. The only time I was lower was at the beach when there was no one around.

There’s too many variables. It all depends what days you’re going, how many people, how long in advance you’re booking. I’d check out their website.

How much is the difference when you booked between the Grand and Nizuc? No official word on when the big waterslides will be open. There are lots of rumours flying around but no actual word from the resort group themselves.
Is it true that if you are staying at the Grand you can go to their sister property at The Beach Palace and eat/drink for free?
I haven’t done it but I believe this is true.

I didn't mention it mainly because everyones price will be different from where they come from. The hotel without flight for 7 days was about $3000 CDN for our family of 4.

What's the estimated cost for a family of 4?
All depends on what type of room, time of year makes a HUGE difference as well. How old are your kids? For our family it’s about $2700 USD for 1 week near the end of November. Over Christmas and that will triple if there’s even availability.
We've been to moon palace twice and grand once. We found the last time to be so boring! I think it's very much a family resort and great for kids but after 1 week you just get bored. Trying something more central this time
How long did you stay each time? What made it boring for you? Lack of activities?night life, pool games, etc. Just curious. Like I said in the review, I've been to quite a few places down the coast as far as Akumal and they all seem to offer the same type of format but I thought the Grand really had lots to do. Each time we stayed for 2 weeks and I can't deny that it is amazing, we loved it the first time. The staff and food are amazing and the pools (especially at the grand) are great. We just found that in the second week, we were a bit bored because had seen it all and done most things and I think because it's not very central we were stuck there. I think with kids it would be different because there is so much for families. We are going to the Riu Palace Peninsula in June, to see what it's like being central. I'd reccomend moon palace and the grand the everyone, I think the novelty just wore off for us.
Yeah with kids it slows things down quite a bit so in a week, we barely touched on what the resorts have to offer. I've always wanted to go for 2 weeks but all my Mexico trips have always been only 7 days. I've always wondering if 2 weeks is too long. We've done most of the tourist things around the Mayan before we had the kids so now it's just R & R in the resort for the next few years which I'm good with.
You do realize you can take a taxi and go to their other hotels like beach palace or sun place right? And those hotels have the one thing lacking at the moon. The beach is great.

Great review Brian, my kids are so excited now having seen your video. We go in June for 2weeks. I was wondering, some people mention toiletries, ie shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower gel etc. Are these just a one off or are the supplied throughout your stay. If supplied would save taking all this with us thanks again. Pamela
+Pamela Neilson They are al brand new and supplied. They use CHI brand which are pretty expensive toiletries.

I THINK its located between grand and nizuc? what was explained to us is that these are like "hotel" rooms. there is no living room area but a small kitchen. and I think its located on the golf course. I was reluctant bc all you ever hear of is the 3. it also might be due to some technicalities for exchanging our timeshare location for cancun
Is the big water park part of the hotel?
Yes. It’s in the Center of the resort. Half of it has been dismantled right now though. Check my Part#2 and 3 for the updates on the water park.
