The Indian factory making 6,000 syringes a minute - BBC News

  • One of the world's biggest syringe makers has ramped up production because of the huge demand for Covid vaccines.
    Rajiv Nath, who heads India's largest syringe factory, says it is now making around 6,000 syringes a minute.
    But he says that's still not enough given that the world needs 10 billion syringes to vaccinate just 60% of the population.
    He believes co-ordination between the vaccine makers, governments, the World Health Organization and syringe makers will be “very, very critical” going forward.

      Indians are dying because there is no control over hoarding of vaccines,ventilators, oxygen cylinders and even ambulances- which has triggered over 5 hundred thousand deaths. In fact the conduction of state elections (in West Bengal, Assam,Kerala,Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry) and the holy festival of Kumbh Mela in the wrong time (as per solar cycles in Hindu Holy calendars ) resulted in uncontrolled pace of spreading COVID 19 due to almost a million maskless present in public gatherings.

      @Tom M Of course UK will be investing the best vaccines on this planet. Unfortunately the vaccines invented by the Germans (BioNtech), Americans (Moderna), Novavax (Americans), Sputnik (Russians) and Indians (Bharat Biotech) have all got a higher efficacy rate than the British vaccine. But I promise you, next time it will be the British who will invest the best vaccines on this planet.
      And you are right, why should you bother to have scaled vaccines factories in the UK, even though vaccine manufacturing is a highly automated operation as of 2021 and the largest manufacturing countries of USA (1), India (2) and China (3) have all got very little people employed in those factories.
      Not to mention the highly advanced British logistics industry that will be used to transport vaccines all around the world and earn the much deserved revenue for the queens treasury.

      India has loads of problems, that's why companies won't go there even if they leave China, they're more likely to go to SE Asia.
      India suffers from tax terrorism, frequent change in regulations and sometimes with retrospective effects, poor physical infrastructure, very high turnaround time at Indian ports, poor labour productivity, inspector raj and veritable minefields of labour laws. These are some of the reasons why in 2019, nearly a third of the manufacturing capacity of Indian companies were lying idle. Things have only gotten worse since then.

    • @abmong
      @abmong 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Shiva Limbu Dubey India & Vietnam. Apple is more of a unique case anyway, their infrastructure was already pretty spread out, with parts being manufactured in different countries. The processor chips are made in Taiwan. Foxconn is the main supplies partner for Apple, they have factories not just in China, but in Thailand, Malaysia, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Singapore, and the Philippines.
      Assembly was mainly being done in China, but other of their preexisting facilities were doing assemblies too. It's an easier switch than if a company was getting everything done in one country.

    • @abmong
      @abmong 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @M1 India dude India hasn't recieved that much FDI. Look at the FDI stock from 2017 (latest index I could find). India's FDI stock was at $367,500million. Compare that to Vietnam's at $318,700million. That's already nearly as much as India, but per capita Vietnam got a hell of a lot more. It doesn't even compare.
      -India FDI $367,500million/population 1.366billion = $269 per person
      -Vietnam FDI $318,700million/population 96million = $3319 per person
      If we were to compare India to SE Asia as a whole:
      (Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Brunei Darussalam) population 673.43million
      SE Asia FDI:
      Singapore FDI $1,285,000million,
      Vietnam FDI $318,700million,
      Indonesia FDI $247,700million,
      Thailand FDI $205,500million,
      Malaysia FDI $133,200million,
      Philippines FDI $78,790million,
      Cambodia FDI $29,170million,
      Laos FDI $15,140million
      (no FDI figures for Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Brunei Darussalam)
      Total = $2,313,200million = $3434 per person
      If we take Singapore out as the outlier. The FDI for the rest of SE Asia would be $1,285,000million, and a population of 667,582,777
      The still gives $1925 per person, beating India's $269 per person by a country mile...
      China's FDI $1,514,000million, population 1.398billion = $1083 per person.
      So no India's $269 per person isn't really something to boast about...

    • @abmong
      @abmong 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @M1 India Not Indian. Anyway Vietnam got 28.53 billion in 2020, that's still way more per capita than India.
      As for Manufactoring output, sure it's great India is ranked 5th, however, given the size of India, it should be doing a heck of a lot more in terms of real percentages.
      in 2018 India produced $412billions worth in manufactured goods, but again if you compare that to SE Asia who has half the population of India.
      Indonesia $207billion, Thailand $136billion, Singapore $73billion, Philippines $63billion, Vietnam $39billion, Myanmar $16billion,
      Puts SE Asia's Total = $534billion beating India's $412billions and with half the population size.
      I'm not trying to rag on India, I'm just saying India needs to make a lot more improvements to live up to their potential. India has about the same population count as China and should be performing at the same level, but its not. China produced 4Trillions worth that year.
      But talking in terms of productivity per capita, SE Asia is twice as productive as India. If SE Asia had the population size of India, SE Asia might be making about $1.5Trillion, not as productive as China but more so than India.

      The big issue for India to develop that is overlooked is the conditions of fear in the society. Note that Indians appear relaxed, while the Chinese society is highly frightened and thus, Chinese are highly focused, they have a sense of urgency and are hardworking.This is the key to Indian development, Indians need to increase the sense of urgency to get things done, then Indians can be productive and wealthy just like the Chinese, please see th-cam.com/video/F9hvfLhH1jQ/w-d-xo.html or read the book "Frighten the World into Prosperity" by Christopher Oszywa.
