I hybrid a stiff round poly cross with a syn gut main for the reason you point out at 7:03, turning SG's biggest weakness-- notching-- into a strength. The SG's notches become channels along which it can snap back along the poly cross, which remains a notchless, minimally frictional vehicle for the mains to slide across. Noice!
Been trying to come up with the optimum poly poly hybrid in my new rackets (Phantom 97P) tonight I’ve tried Tour Sniper mains with Hawk Touch crosses. That’s going to take some beating in terms of feel and control. Have Sniper mains and Sync crosses to try next. Pretty excited about that too. I’ve got a big competition next week so the winner of those two will be my solution for the comp. However, may try caviar mains with sync/Hawk touch/zero crosses after that to see how it goes. Your last video about spin strings was invaluable for helping me work out what to try. Thanks.
Sniper/Sync might be the best one I've tried too. I have a feeling Caviar is best as a cross (despite the shape) but TBD on that thought until I can properly test. But it has more to do with depth control than spin.
@@TennCom Even more excited about trying Sniper x Sync then. Interesting about Caviar. My main reason for trying it in the mains was because I really love the feel at contact, but the feel with Sniper was so good I could be persuaded that I’ve found the main string of my dreams! 😂
@@TennCom Well this is tricky. I think I slightly prefer the feel of the Hawk Touch but after two doubles matches it’s lost a fair bit of snap back already. Whereas I suspect the Sync which I’ve only hit for a couple of hours will be much more resilient. However, I have a half reel of the Hawk Touch and only a few sets of the Sync. What to do??
Very valuable experience. Thanks for sharing . Ale gave an 8 out of 10 for conf/hyper g setup. Just for comparison purposes , what grade would she give to a full bed of M8 ?
She said 8 as well but I think that was inaccurate since she seemed "very happy" about M8 and only "quite pleased" with Conf/HGR. Also probably skewed due to her tourney result with M8 and the racquet switch, so hard to compare.
We have! th-cam.com/video/H2QJGHFrNxU/w-d-xo.html Sadly the setups just really don't work for us so we don't really feel like we can review them properly.
Do I recall you saying Ruud’s setup is unplayably stiff? PTS/PTP 54/54. I strung that in my 340sw vcore 98s and got a pretty similar vibe to what Allie describes here with the shaped/round hybrid. I really believe in this type of setup, coming from mainly full bed confidential or Ts7 the spin is exceptional, but it doesn’t feel like a rocket launcher like I get sometimes with Hyper G soft full bed or restring 0. I’m excited to try PTS/PTF. There’s definitely a special alchemy to poly poly hybrids that we’ll unlock soon. I’m never going back.
You remember correctly, that was in my Extreme Tour. Simon and I were going to make a video but we both really struggled with the setup so we skipped it. I think it would work well in the VCORE 98 though to tame the open pattern.
Could you please make a video for best poly crosses for natural gut mains? And categorize it as best for power, spin, feel, durability, control, cost etc like you do for other string videos 🙏🏽. It would be too costly to try all the different options (ALU, 4G, Hawk Power, Sync, Yonex’s etc) so would like to see your thoughts/experience instead.
Took your feedback on Reddit and did Re String zero in mains with Tourna Silver 7 Tour and its pretty great. But also I really like full bed of Grapplesnake m8. Thoughts on Re string zero in mains and M8 in crosses? Just curious.
M8 is a pretty expensive string and I think the whole point of paying that kind of price for a string like that is to experience the feel. The feel tends to get drowned out when you put a string in the crosses so I don't really suggests M8 in the crosses of any setup. I think to really feel the magic, it's best in a full bed or as a main with a neutral cross.
Don’t you a have N-Code 6.1? It’d be awesome and an interesting change if an edit was made with what strings worked for you in that stick. I just got 4 N 6.1s off of marketplace and I’m trying to find a solid set up. All the forum threads are old when checking out suggestions. It’d be cool to see how new tech strings work in classics!
You’re destined too haha! I’ll ship a new set of grommets over if it doesn’t work out well, I promise. Acknowledging youtube comments aren’t really things to make a weighted decision off of but you have my word for what it’s worth!
5:32 could you further explain your idea that an open string pattern makes full bed HG and the hybrid feel different? I get that there’s more sliding and snapback in an open pattern. Are you saying that in a dense pattern, the difference between a round cross and shaped cross doesn’t make a difference?
Yeah defs. Part of the goal with a round string is to increase snapback. More specifically, it doesn't increase snapback, it reduces the force required to create the snapback. One could say it lowers the barrier to entry on snapback, or it lowers the threshold of snapback. If you already have decent swingspeed and can create a lot of snapback with a shaped string, you are already hitting beyond the threshold of snapback for that setup, so lowering the threshold of snapback won't be noticeable. I think this is why the 18x20 with the 16g string had such obvious results. That setup requires a lot of force to cross the threshold of snapback, so lowering the threshold with a round string improved performance, as all of us struggle to cross the threshold with full Conf.
This is one of the best videos I've seen on strings recently, hands down!!! I've been trying to find a good formula for Ezone 100. I have Sync crosses and I tried Hyper G, Confidential, and Yonex PTP on the mains. I also tried PT Fire on crosses and Babolat RPM power thanks to your other video. I like the launch angle and consistency of Confi, but I can't feel a damn thing (especially when combined with Ez100) which really hurts my confidence. PTP feels amazing but it really flattens shots and I hit out much more often as it's also more powerful. Do you have any recommendations to get a much better feel and more dwell time than confi, but creates that shape and consistency? Hyper G round on crosses and Tour Bite rough on mains?
Yeah go for Grapplesnake Tour Sniper mains/Sync crosses. I think you'll like that a lot. Can prob drop tension by 2lbs too to get a little more lift from the Sniper since the launch is a bit lower than Conf, but you still get the grip.
The wear was pretty even on both when I cut the strings out. Ale said she used the HGR a little more so maybe a slight win for HGR crosses but I don't think it's a huge factor.
I’m experimenting with some hybrid setups. Tried as main Restring 0, Hyper G, Head Lynx Tour and as crosses PTP and M8. I like lower tension (45-48 lbs) and for now M8 was my favorite. I like the comfortable and ball pocketing feeling. Not decided on the mains though. Restring 0 is nice but maybe missing a bit of control. Any recommendations? Something with good spin but not too stiff.
@@TennCom Only available in 1.23 mm gauge atm. Do you know if they will release anything thicker, like 1.27 mm which other strings from Toroline are are available in? Anyway, looking forward to video next month!
Interesting findings. I've been waiting to try Hyper G Round for awhile. What do you think about putting it into an Ezone Tour with Zero in the mains? I've recently used Zero / Poly Tour Pro and it's been great but PTP doesn't last long and it notches Zero so quickly. I've been thinking about using Caviar or Hyper G Round instead. Also, your recommendation for Silver 7 Tour / Zero is spot on. Go to set up now in the Regna. Any experience with Big Hitter Black 7?
no exp with BHB7. HGR should last a bit longer than PTP. It's slicker than yellow for sure, more in line with the blue colour for slickness. I guess I don't really know what the point of using HGR in the crosses would be with Zero though. Sync would last the longest and add control. To me, PTP and Caviar increase the depth control (easier to consistency hit flat and deep), which doesn't really match Zero as a main. HGR would probably just water down the Zero main without adding much.
@@TennCom I used yellow PTP for comfort reasons. Playability was great but it didn’t last as long as I hoped. That’s why I was looking at Caviar as a substitute. I’m looking for my cross to help tame the Zero and add comfort to the stiff Ezone while also keeping that yellow Ruud look lol
Important question. Would it be better to buy the head speed pro or add weight to the speed mp? I use head radical mp for a while and now I want more power and spin. I also wanna stay with head rackets.
Prob the Speed MP. Some of the Pro's are coming in super high swingweight but on the other hand, I think you'd like the 18x20 in the Pro more. Tough decision tbh.
I’ve used the head radical mp for a while now and I love its control and precision. But it does demand a lot from the user and I was looking for something that gives me easier access to power as well as more spin as I found the radical to be a little too flat.
after trying many round strings i found this. Best for feeling, good spin and unlimited money, Alu power rough. Best for durability, good feel and enough spin, Restring Sync. So i got a question, Is this better than Sync? My Goat hybrid is still zero/sync.

pretty sure what makes hyper g so great is the fact that is shaped and twisted. the round version just takes out all the best aspects of the string
the spin potiential is the same. the round is more slippery and has more snapback which counters the lack of shape. the round last longer.
@@benjaminjensen111 okay. you may be right. but i love the way the shaped string hurts my arm in such a good way
