    It only took 20 years, but The General finally turns the Malibu into a destination spot in this segment.

    I love the Malibu. I own a Gen 6 2007 Malibu, and just picked up a 2016 Malibu LS Limited. It has a CD player (I still prefer my physical copies, I don't download or stream). The 2016 looks like a redesign of the Gen 6, which is my favorite body style. To me, these are underrated cars. It's just me and my husband, and we don't need a big SUV for 2 of us.

    • @2fast4all
      @2fast4all 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its totally different from the Gen 6. Its built from the ground up with new chassis and engine.
      Truth is. 2016-2018 has the worst failures. I know this because I own a 2016 (new body style) version myself.

    Congrats Motorweek on another excellent no nonsense fair minded review so typical of your work and much appreciated! Surprising to see such a well sorted car from Chevy in this segment which has been long dominated by other entries. Perhaps Chevy has a pulse beyond just the amazing new Camaro and Corvette, not to mention amazingness coming from Cadillac as well. Bravo! I guess we have yet another year of grace before SUVs serve up total world domination and hopefully many more I hope. Thanks!

    MW doesn't do performance testing in there reviews anymore? I've been watching the retro reviews and even the Yugo got speed tests :/

    • @oldtwins
      @oldtwins 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Chris Dooley agreed and that was the strength of MW reviews over the others. So not only no performance testing but every other competitor reviewer already did their review on this car long ago. Getting really disappointed in this channel.

    Just saw one at the 2023 New York International Autoshow. I was impressed. It was in the back, had no problem getting in while the crowds awed over the Suburbans. Had a 1.5L CVT setup. Malibus RS $26k, beautiful wheels, $500 red paint color that was nice too. Definitely a keeper if I were in the market. Though I would prefer a 1.5T or 2.0T with regular transmission.
    The accord they had on display went for $38K as a 2.0 hybrid. Malibu is a great value for the money!

    I have put 150k on it in three years without a single issue.

    rented a 2017 with the 1.5 motor. It was the LT model. I think that highway manners are excellent. There is a slight lag on acceleration from a stop, but if you know that , you can work with that

    Why are people so hostile in the comments sections of these videos? Unless you're an industry exec you don't have a stake in the brand wars... calm down and let people like things.
    Why do you do this, though? What do you gain by saying "____ cars are trash!" or "_____ is best everything else sucks?" Are you trying to justify your own purchase, assuming you bought said vehicle, because you're self-conscious about the choice you've made, and take it personally when someone thinks your choice isn't THE choice? Do you own a ton of stock in a company and want to see its competitors fail? Are you in a sexual relationship with your car?
    (I have nothing against Honda, but it seems like Honda fans are the most aggressive when it comes to bashing other brands and praising their own, for whatever reason)
    It's been mentioned before in this comments section, but for the most part, it's pretty hard to buy an objectively bad car in 2017; sure, some have their ups and their downs, but no one is truly selling junk anymore, regardless of what the forums on the enthusiast sites say.
    Come on, you guys. Grow up.

      My mom.owned a Corsica back in the late 1990's. It was a great car. She doesn't own it anymore, she sold it to a family for their daughter. The dad wasxa mechanic, and he fixed the minor problems it had when she owned it. It's still running! Last time I talked with tbe new owner, it's now got over 200,000 miles! It's still running, and some things had to be replaced, but its still alive and kicking.

    That Malibu he is driving sure looks nice but he is testing top of the line model which has an MRSP north of $35K. Paying that kind of dough for a Chevy Malibu is well... crazy. I am currently renting the base model it is just terrible. Hard cheap plastics galore interior with an underpowered engine. A fleet car. Not surprised a bit Hertz had dozens of them on the lot.

      chad harmon Well I do try to maintain it as much as I can afford. It runs like a dream and really only recently would like to get into something else only because I've had it like 11 years. But then I get a little sentimental about it because I've had it so long. I'd probably be better off keeping it.

      @@chickenfarm09 I just picked up a 2016 LS Limited. I still.have my 2007 Malibu. It has 157,465 miles on it. Still running like a champ, too! I keep it well maintained with regular oil changes and repairs when needed. I only got the 2016 because my mom's 1998 Buick Century died, and she'll be driving the 2007.

    hmmm how long will this thing last before AAA gets a call for a tow truck and/or the repair show saying "the engine and transmission need to be replaced". The Malibu looks great but thats a risk I cannot take. A boring Accord or Camry are easy on the wallet for however long you own it and keep up with the maintenance intervals.

    Bought one two days ago. My honest opinion? Hmm...my 1.5T is laggy off the rip but on the highways that thing passes like a V6. It's very unsuccessful power wise in the city though. Bottom line...I don't want ugly. No matter how wonderfully reliable Honda and Toyota are...THEY ARENT ATTRACTIVE. I'd rather keep this for three years and wait for the next stylish newly functional American vehicle. Honda blah blah blah the accords dash is disgusting along with the Camrys interior and exterior failure. The Malibu can't be beat right now....sorry.

      Another one is that even at the highest trim. They do not offer HID/LED headlights. They are all 9005 HB3 bulbs (projector). I'm not sure if they ever did offer it til now. So aftermarket it is and $80 bucks later. LED headlights.

      Well, you might prefer a Taurus, but in a 5 way comparison with the other, main competitors in its class done by MotorTrend last year, it was judged to be 5th place. Inferior platform, power, handling and a number of other metrics made the car utterly undesirable. But, hey, you like it’s looks, right? Personally, I like the Malibu’s looks and the fact that it’s a superior car. But, then, I like to use my rational, reasoned and educated abilities to make my choice.
