@@cheyennegentry438 I agree with your assessment on that semantic old (and probably jealous) bore. I wonder how well the person who wrote this critique dances?
This was one of best dances I ever seen. Sophie Ellis Bextor looked really gorgeous here. It’s like she belonged in that time period. Those lifts were incredible. Yes there was a few mistakes but she carried on like a professional.
The judges were SO determined to undermark every single of Sophie's performances, especially the ones towards the finals (paso doble, American smooth, quickstep, and her extremely underrated Argentine tango). Even her flawless Viennese Waltz STILL didn't earn her a perfect 40. The judges keep saying they want a dance from her like this Charleston, but I honestly feel her latter dances are just as good, if not even better.
I still stand that the only reason they didn't give her 10s for this Charleston was because it was still early in the competition and it wouldn't really fit
I haven't seen any of the other videos yet but despite being a good performance there were several flaws here. Main flaw was both were rather stiff. Charleston is an energetic dynamic dance this performance lacked. This seemed more like a watered down formalised version.
Are you being serious? Have you literally come onto Sophie's Charleston video to spread hate? But seeing as you want to go there. Fine. Yes, Jay's Charleston was technically great and complex but it didn't have the wow factor. Sophie's Charleston is up there with all the Strictly greats because it has the classy wow factor, the crazy lifts and the pizzazz. Just like Jay's jive had the wow factor and the pizzazz. As mentioned before, his Charleston didn't. End of.
lol! Sorry to cause controversy. I was watching some old videos while browsing TH-cam. No hate intended! Just saying that for a musician like Sophie, it's hardly difficult to keep in time. That's all. Chill out and have a merry christmas :-)
How did she not keep in time? She was better than Brendan! Even Craig said so. And next time you have something nasty to say please refrain from replying to someone else's positive comment. It just leaves a bad smell. Have a good day! :)
+hOpE cHiLd read my comment, I didn't say she wasn't in time - she absolutely was! Just saying that it's not hard for her given she has rhythm as her profession is a musician! Calm down, it was just a comment, and hardly a negative one - just an opinion. Hope you have a lovely day too, I certainly am :D
When ever I watch dance it has to captivate me from the second I set eyes on the performance. Costumes, lighting music and the movement. Sophie & Brendan were that performance. The energy was instant and the way Sophie moved was breathtaking. She was made for the Charleston. Absolutely smashed it, BRAVO 👏!
Can't stop watching this performance. It amazes me that she fell on her head doing the flip and still came out and did such an unrestricted performance. She's flawless!
Perfect dancing , perfect timing on charleston soundtrack band, perfect couple . Simply blew me away together with the audience when you first time watch this and also on the second and third time. It got this "magic" feeling to it. I don't know why. It is so simply yet sophisticated on par with the best strictly come dancing dances ever done on the show. :)
She also had an awkward moment in the lift at the very beginning, her synchronised kicks at the end with Brendan also showed a little hesitancy and were miss-timed. But this was only week 2 for christ's sake
I have watched this a few times now... I think it's THE most perfect amateur/pro dance, in the history of the show! Towards the end (1.20) Sophie actually holds a 'leg-shake', (just for half-a-beat), while they are syncronised again (Or Brendan catches up to her)! THE BEST!
Holy moly!!! O.M.G,. Sophie Ellis bexter, you fabulous sparkling lady, your just so perfect, your dance routine was bloody sublime, you rocked it !!! You smashed it!!! And my oh my , you can dance , love you Sophie 🥰
One word. FAB-U-LOUS. One of my favourite Charlestons ever, and for week 2, phenomenal! Just so gutted they didn't get a chance to redo it in the final so they could get 40. A 10 from me ❤
Pure genius indeed!! So full of energy, makes you feel almost like getting up and dancing with them. They make it looks so easy when it defo isn't!! Requires lots of training
Still the best Charleston in this season's Strictly. Yes it's not as off the wall as it could be, but this was early in the series. Great choice of music, and superb backing performance.
A master class performance by Brendan: Show off your celebrity; don't out-dance her; exactly syncronise your steps to hers; overall realising that you are not the centre of attention. I tire of the young show off bucks who make their partners look inferior.
Wow wow and more wow. Even six years on, this dance still impresses me. Sophie's swivel, timing, and the 1920's feel really put the dance together. It was perfect. 9/10 Why didn't she get to the final three? She was the third best in my opinion, after Natalie and Abbey.
One can clearly see how the public reacted, pure euphoria. Plenty of attitude and hard work! Where are the winners now? All others SCD videos have less than half the views this video has... in the end time is the best judge.
@@themadthatter You cannot say that, because they never danced in the final against each other, proof of that is Jay McGuinness, he was nothing special until halfway through the series, then there was no one to touch him and Aliona
@@terrywright7470 Jay hit his peak in week 3 with his incredible jive, not really 'halfway' through the series. And Sophie /did/ reach the final, so I don't really get what you mean. I'm not saying the most iconic dances always come from the winners, but winning Strictly is often dependent on when you start to get good. She did make it to the final, but at that time there was an elimination in the final in the final, so she was eliminated before she had a chance to perform this again.

She murdered the dance floor 🥰
haha...i see what you've done there!
Killing moves!
Get over it, you! 😜
Poor dance floor, that back-flip landing in high heels would have been excruciating!
good)
I was lucky enough to be in the audience for this, we were all gobsmacked. It was so early in the completion, no-one was expecting this! ICONIC!
I'm still bitter about not getting to see her do this again in the final.

Mr Brightside it was like they under marked Sophie to get at Brendan which was so petty. Everyone I know who watched strictly that year felt the same.

She’s stunningly feminine, the perfect woman and mother.
She does lack strength and flexibility as a dancer however.
Still a pleasure to watch.
I love how Sophie keeps a deadpan expression through most of it - like such an ultra cool flapper in the 1920s!!!
You can't not love Sophie - she's stunning and such a talent.
This remains one of the most iconic Strictly dances EVER

Part of the charm of this is that costume on her. She's got an art deco body almost, she looks like a Chiparus figure.

It is if you have no rhythm, like me :-(
:-) What I meant is that Sophie has got rhythm, being a musician so for her it isn't that hard :-)
