If this were my thrift store, me and that scope would be heading for the checkout lane pronto. That Yorx speaker is as good as it gets at the thrifts around here.
I actually own the same type oscilloscope! The difference being another brand name and model number. Besides that, 100% identical. Funny how things can be identical and still have different names. A lot of nice stuff as well in that store. Makes me wish places like that would exist where I live.
$40 for that CRO? Wow, that is awesome! I wish I could find one of those here, since mud wasps destroyed my current CRO (their wet mud nests shorted HV through some of the more delicate components inside it).
Wow, the JVC tape deck was almost exactly the same as the one I found when I bought the VCR. Interesting to see an oscilloscope there - that'll never happen here. The transfer case for an '86 F-250, maybe, but never an oscilloscope. lol. Nice find of the Eveready Commander lantern; I'd like to get one someday.
It is. I can recognize it from a mile away. I used to go there everyday but since stopped going to the rt 22 store because the prices went way above and beyond, past the moon. You were able to pick up everything you see in this video at half the price maybe even less and now they want top dollar on yard sale leftovers. Recently they had a small antique Zenith radio which was in bad shape and was missing parts for $150 along with a common $10 antique fan in poor shape for $40. This store suffers from the, "hey, its old so it must be worth hundreds!" syndrome. The one in South Plainfeild is cheaper and gets better things.
Some cool little tidbits there... the thrift stores around here have been pretty uninteresting lately, although I did pick up some cool stuff this past month. Imagine how horrible it would have been if you bought the Miata poster and it didn't fit in your car? Oh well, I guess you could have re-donated it again LOL.
Wow, that thrift store is like being in the disposal cupboard at work, apart from it's all free!! :o) On a side note, at the thrift store today, I found a marantz tape player from 1985, the performance of which, blew me away. I will have to dedicate it's video to you when I do it :o)
Those 20Mhz oscilloscopes area almost always sold for for less than $50. They are often the low-end models when it comes to typical bench analog scopes. $40 is not a bad price, but what determines whether or not you should buy it is if you can get the documentation for it. Without proper documentation, doing the calibration procedure for the scope can be a bit difficult, not to mention that doing repairs in the future may also be difficult.
vwestlife The Eveready was $4.99. RetroGamerVX was talking about the $2.99 unit before the Eveready at 4:26. It was maybe a speaker / amplifier? Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
My grandparents have that same exact silver JVC cassette deck. I also have that same exact black Dell PS/2 keyboard, but not the beige one that has the original Dell logo.
Not quite the case, LeafyisMemes. It visualizes electronic signals, and waveforms. Audio is a fluctuating electronic signal, but it doesn't just "measure" audio.
The bootleg music CD was amusing but not surprising. I found bootleg Playstation games at a Goodwill once. Even weirder, one of them was Thrill Kill, which was never legitimately released because it was stupidly violent.
What thrift store is that? Theres one (salvation Army) about 45 mins from me but it doesn't have much that's really good but I did find an eyeclops TV Microscope. And I have one of those wowee amps. And my cousin had one of those eveready fluorescent flashlights.
I have one of those lanterns. I use it to light the room in the wee hours on mornings I go to work because a regular lamp is too much light for my not-awake eyes.
I found in the UK the best place to go was the local dump/recycling center. However some of the jerks at the place would shout at you for diving into the goodies like I was stealing money from them. They made it out to be a health and safety issue... Pfff whatever!
It's a pity you didn't buy that Dell keyboard because it's a real Alps made by Alps in Europe and not by Silitek in South-East Asia. It also has beautiful PBT dye-subbed keycaps that don't turn yellow over time.
nice scope those old 20-60mhz scopes are useful to have, if you have a modern computer based scope and analyser you cant do higher voltage repairs(example tv flyback etc), so one of those make a nice addition, i build custom one off pc's for a living, but for a hobby i build and repair radio's and metal detectors, an analogue scope is essential for setting up and testing pulse induction detectors, due to high flyback voltages, so even if you have a good pc scope you still need an analogue one and a set of 100x and 1000x probes.
Eww, GX270s...nice machine though. I had one but it died right then and there due to bad caps on the motherboard. I heard they're all prone to bad caps from that era.
Wow, a dell dimension 4300 for 14 bucks, for the longest time I used one, I got mine brand new in 2001 with windows me (shudders) I put xp (xp wasn't out yet when we bought it) on it later
The prices there aren't so bad...you wouldn't believe some of the prices we have here in our thrift stores.....I've run across a Durabrand DVD player for $80 w/in the past 2 or 3 months......for $80, I can get a Sony Blu-Ray player! (not that I buy Sony products besides PlayStation)
vwestlife 1 day try and get like an Alienware or Cyberpower or something with Windows 10 installed and review it and play Steam games like CSGO, TF2, Black Ops 3 and more.
***** I bought that keyboard. goput.it/50z.jpg I had a "HOLY $#!&" moment when I saw it in the video. I have a friend in the general Lake Hopatcong area with a 100wpm average that enjoys the feel of Alps switches very much, so I always pick her up any AT101's when I see them. still waiting for those ever-so-rare Alps Pink switches to show up in any, or the elusive black AT101W to show up.
Heck alot of that stuff you cant find in Connecticut. Well goodwill I mean. Records tapes and 8 tracks. But I hate it when kids damage it also not to mention some parents I swear let them do it. Damage record players etc. Although my first computer was a Pentium 3 goodwill find. But it had everything. Except disk. For Windows95 so upgraded to 98 se ran that for eh 2006 to 2008 when I built my asus I gotta get that running again. Replaced cmos battery last year after making sure everything disconnected. I took memory out to be overly precautionary and all I had was a red light when power on no beep nothing. Im replacing power supply cleaned board cause had dust. Hopefully get it back running. For a 2.5 gb memory 1.8 ghz sempron amd 939 socket and 320 gb hd sata with 8500gt nivida graphics card it was a fast . Computer. My Toshiba laptop with dual core processor I 3 I think it called. Is slightly slower but is a 2012 plays some games but desktop blows that out of the water
Hey VWestlife. I believe you did a fine job making & editing this video for TH-cam. I really & truly like it. :) If I do get back to making any TH-cam videos, I would at least try to not have any music in the background. I've never added any background music on any of the videos I've done. I totally respect TH-cam's copyright policy. What do you think about that? :) What do you think TH-cam may think about that? :)
that oscilloscope is a very good considering new they are around $2,000 dollars new us maybe a little more and wild unexpected bill can always use another dell optiplex or two lol He would love you for it love your videos
50 bucks for a crappy GX270 that likely needs new caps. They need to rethink the word thrift in the name of the store.
If this were my thrift store, me and that scope would be heading for the checkout lane pronto. That Yorx speaker is as good as it gets at the thrifts around here.
Well I'm moving to new Jersey, thrift stores around my area never have stuff like this
same here in the Hudson Valley.
I actually own the same type oscilloscope! The difference being another brand name and model number. Besides that, 100% identical. Funny how things can be identical and still have different names. A lot of nice stuff as well in that store. Makes me wish places like that would exist where I live.
oscilloscope was a mighty find, nice 👍
I have a USB scope, but I would've picked that thing up in a heartbeat!
$40 for that CRO? Wow, that is awesome! I wish I could find one of those here, since mud wasps destroyed my current CRO (their wet mud nests shorted HV through some of the more delicate components inside it).
That Yorx speaker at 2:54 looks like something poopoogarret would blow. Or smash. Or both.
4:25 -- It's the Encyclopedia Obsoletica!
Good price on the scope.
The oscilloscope was a bargain, I would have bought it as a second scope. Interesting stuff.
I really like when you try all of the buttons, even if it is disconnected. I do that myself on the stores...lol!
Dang, I really need an oscilloscope too.
Is that the unique store in union nj on route 22 the first one by the dollar tree?
It is. I can recognize it from a mile away. I used to go there everyday but since stopped going to the rt 22 store because the prices went way above and beyond, past the moon. You were able to pick up everything you see in this video at half the price maybe even less and now they want top dollar on yard sale leftovers. This store suffers from the, "hey, its old so it must be worth hundreds!" syndrome. The one in South Plainfeild is cheaper and gets better things.
is this thrift store within 200miles of Wisconsin, id drive there just for that cheap of a scope
wow $40 for a 20Mhz scope, you could put that on ebay and double your money. Very hard to find anything online for that price that even works.
I wish my goodwill was this interesting.
The OptiPlex GX270 is my favorite Dell tower design.
Wow that place was selling a burnt cd? pretty low of them if i say
if i were there i would have bought the oscilloscope and the dell keyboard.
never seen an oscilloscope at a thrift mart, but i did just score a technics amp and a sansui tapedeck a couple days ago
4:43 thats a paper jamz speaker for the paper jamz guitares
Piece of junk is what it is
Wow, that thrift store is like being in the disposal cupboard at work, apart from it's all free!! :o) On a side note, at the thrift store today, I found a marantz tape player from 1985, the performance of which, blew me away. I will have to dedicate it's video to you when I do it :o)
You mean "...dedicate *its* video". ;-) The Nakamichi cassette deck that I got for $6 at the thrift store is the best tape deck I have ever owned.
vwestlife Your a grammar nazi tonight? lol. Naa, it's, as in, belonging too lol ;o)
RetroGamerVX It's a shame so few people use the English language in its proper form. :-)
vwestlife Only the English ;o)
yup :o)
Can you make a Thrift store adventure 2015 video? :)
If I was there I would have bought that Dell dimension. I had a similar model with a Celeron and Windows XP. My childhood brought back!
The Miata poster would be a nice troll gift for bhtooefr hehe!
That's the first thing that came into my mind when I saw it!
What brand scope was that?? Did you buy it ?? Gary G. ~~ from You Tube
What the bugger was that $2.99 thing near the end?
That was an Eveready fluorescent lantern.
vwestlife
They must have taken their design queues from the radio shack bulk tape eraser.
dictare I've not seen that :o(
vwestlife The Eveready was $4.99. RetroGamerVX was talking about the $2.99 unit before the Eveready at 4:26. It was maybe a speaker / amplifier?
Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Ed Schwarz That was a toy amplifier in a cardboard box made to look like a tube-type guitar amplifier.
wow they sell pirated music to wow
lol
My grandparents have that same exact silver JVC cassette deck. I also have that same exact black Dell PS/2 keyboard, but not the beige one that has the original Dell logo.
40$ for a working 20MHz oscilloscope, i'm sort of jealous that you guys can get these things for such a low price.
What does it do?
+LeafyIsMemes It's a way to measure audio waves.
Not quite the case, LeafyisMemes. It visualizes electronic signals, and waveforms. Audio is a fluctuating electronic signal, but it doesn't just "measure" audio.
1:20 what is that? The actual thing he was using
The bootleg music CD was amusing but not surprising. I found bootleg Playstation games at a Goodwill once. Even weirder, one of them was Thrill Kill, which was never legitimately released because it was stupidly violent.
I'm pretty surprised that you didn't buy that Dell keyboard.
I already have one.
Is this the Unique thrift on 22 in Union/Springfield? Some of that stuff looks familiar.
Looks it to me.
NJRoadfan Nope... Watchung.
York, that takes me back to my childhood.
if you are into any old electronics would you know anything about old tubed guitar amps
dell keyboard was easily worth 3 bucks.ALPS switches right?
What thrift store is that? Theres one (salvation Army) about 45 mins from me but it doesn't have much that's really good but I did find an eyeclops TV Microscope. And I have one of those wowee amps. And my cousin had one of those eveready fluorescent flashlights.
I am pretty sure that 3 dollar dell keyboard was the ibm model m rebadge that they made
It's not, but he should've bought it anyway :)
FlyingDutchman19801 Yeah.
You guys are working hard at hoarding and then putting the experience on TH-cam,with respect, thanks for the belly laff.
+Mike Garber I guess you didn't read the description, where I wrote *"I didn't buy anything shown here."*
That Sony Mavica looks like it might of been a step up from your current camera. Haha. Kidding.
I have one of those lanterns. I use it to light the room in the wee hours on mornings I go to work because a regular lamp is too much light for my not-awake eyes.
Wow please do more of these videos
You have a nice thrift store!
I have that exact cassette deck.
Is there any sales tax when you buy from the thrift store ? (I know you didn't buy anything shown)
Yes.
Okay thanks ! Keep making awesome videos !!;)
that thrift store looks familiar... do you live in new jersey?
Yes.
Please tell me you bought that $14 Windows 2000 desktop PC
What should he have bought it for?
I just love old computers. It's just me :)
Oscar Lupton
I'm not alone! That's pretty cool that you own that, especially on CD instead of Floppies!
Jonas Kvale
me too loves old computers.
3:50 that keyboard is a buckling spring keyboard
No, that's a Dell "bigfoot" keyboard, and they use Alps switches, not buckling spring.
@@vwestlife could've sworn I read somewhere that they were made by IBM for Dell
did you end up buying that sony camera that takes floppy disks?
he did
+Nayab Warach It says this in the description, but you are so silly that you wont read it.
" I didn't buy anything shown here. "
the mre nerd he has one of those cameras then.
Nayab Warach Yes
I wish my local thrift store was this interesting.
Woah! I have the same oscilloscope except it's a different brand and it's in new condition but cost me $160... It's a great scope!
what the differance between those two dells so that ones $50 and the other is like 15?
+sirmugman One's newer.
MrEthan520 Anonymous
ah i see one is a pined pent 4 and the other is pen less pent 4
A Dell at101 a rare find!
That thrift store is massive.. I wish I had thrift stores that sell electronics in the UK.
We do? What about YMCA Charity Shops? They have electronics lol
But I do admit £40.00 for the cheapest Chinese CD player you can get, is a no go.
Was hoping for computers.
I found in the UK the best place to go was the local dump/recycling center. However some of the jerks at the place would shout at you for diving into the goodies like I was stealing money from them. They made it out to be a health and safety issue... Pfff whatever!
seems kind of high for those dell PCs im guessing there p4's
Would you ever buy an oscilloscope?
It's a pity you didn't buy that Dell keyboard because it's a real Alps made by Alps in Europe and not by Silitek in South-East Asia. It also has beautiful PBT dye-subbed keycaps that don't turn yellow over time.
50 dollars for a GX270?
12 crispy crunchy capacitors included at no additional cost.
They are really optimists with those prices lol
nice scope those old 20-60mhz scopes are useful to have, if you have a modern computer based scope and analyser you cant do higher voltage repairs(example tv flyback etc), so one of those make a nice addition, i build custom one off pc's for a living, but for a hobby i build and repair radio's and metal detectors, an analogue scope is essential for setting up and testing pulse induction detectors, due to high flyback voltages, so even if you have a good pc scope you still need an analogue one and a set of 100x and 1000x probes.
Some groovy stuff here..
Wow, that thrift store has an intriguing habit of pricing everything so that the price is "$X.99"!
0:16 Ooh, Mazda Miata
That keyboard was VERY old, ha.
Eww, GX270s...nice machine though. I had one but it died right then and there due to bad caps on the motherboard. I heard they're all prone to bad caps from that era.
I want some of whatever the pricers are smoking, because 50 dollars for a pentium 4 computer isn't worth it.
don't you just love the sound of a keyboard clicking.
I hate it tbh
listen to miley rocking in the background lol
I saw something high school musical in the beginning!
The only electronics the thrift stores near me have are broken clock radios. :(
Wow, a dell dimension 4300 for 14 bucks, for the longest time I used one, I got mine brand new in 2001 with windows me (shudders) I put xp (xp wasn't out yet when we bought it) on it later

U didn't even show your finds.
I didn't buy anything.
vwestlife 1 day try and get like an Alienware or Cyberpower or something with Windows 10 installed and review it and play Steam games like CSGO, TF2, Black Ops 3 and more.
+POKEGAMERZ 9185 He doesn't play games.
1980sGamer Sometimes I see him play games in his videos. Fun fact. Did U know that vwestlife is gay?
POKEGAMERZ 9185 Yes I did. And why does that matter?
***** I bought that keyboard. goput.it/50z.jpg

$50 for a GX270? Jeez, I got a 260 for $20 and even then I could have probably gotten one for free!
kind of expensive there
here the cameras cost like 3 eur
you 'mericans are spoiled for choice, i just find used straighteners and coffee machines.
Heck alot of that stuff you cant find in Connecticut. Well goodwill I mean. Records tapes and 8 tracks. But I hate it when kids damage it also not to mention some parents I swear let them do it. I am in CT too. There can be some interesting stuff at Savers on the Berlin Tpk.

MILEY CITRUS THE CLIMB
that is one expensive keyboard
MUST----HAVE----MIATA-----UGH! *dies*
LOL....pirated Beatles album at a thrift store...
Dimension 4300s go for up to $200 on ebay. Ridiculous.
Unique FTW
What silly pricing ^__^
yorx speakers *shudders*
I love the Sony Mavica! I hate how my thrift stores rarely have anything nice and when they do it is very over priced.
that oscilloscope is a very good considering new they are around $2,000 dollars new us maybe a little more and wild unexpected bill can always use another dell optiplex or two lol He would love you for it love your videos
Kewl
those computers are a rip off you can find the same thing at a yard sale for free or very cheap those computers are now worth 40$ their kind of old.
wow. I wish there was a shop like that where i live :)
3$ for a dang keyboard they must be out of their minds
no... that is a 1980s dell keyboard with alps keyswitches. very very good keyboard.
mike52787 It is from the early 1990s, to be exact. I think Dell used that old logo until 1993 or so.
thanks for the clarification. i had seen that ancient dell logo on a dell 286 machine from 1988.
Oh did not know the age
the old disgusting junk store
