Hot Take: Jackson grew and changed after the big accident because of Annie.(Which was a believable character arch) He became more caring and actually genuinely cared about Annie’s feelings and well being. They were a good couple in S3!

Yes and no, yes, as in, he did change a little. No because he couldn't stand up to his mom. He continued to see Annie in secret and was like oh my mom can't find out. He could have lied to his mom and went to Annie's birthday party, or when Annie wrecked her father's truck. He stood by the tree was like my mom can't see me here. I think that by the time stands up to his mom it would probably be to late.
