I love that it’s based on Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl! It’s so make sense! You know it’s so funny, because ever since Breakfast Club, we all perpetuated stereotypes of cliques and niches in high schools in all the teen dramas and movies so much so that it’s embedded into American culture. We had songs about the white popular privileged people, and tv shows like Smallville, Gilmore Girls, we are brainwashed about it being a hierarchy. It’s funny how now, 12 years later, there’s a song that’s about how not being popular truly is….it’s so profound to high school kids now lol.
Its nice that they dropped the whole "Whatshisname" schtick of George, and transitioned him to have more backbone (camping, ska, etc), and basically became Nathaniel's best friend

My high school geek friends also had a great time. And the "popular" kids were the unsociable ones or the ones who didn't show up. Maybe it's because the uncool kids had more motivation for continuous self-improvement...

My exact thought was that the arty goth group is probably gay (and that they’re SUPER CUTE). My source is I’m an arty goth who’s gay, and I’m not even in high school anymore.
The people who insist school days are the best days of your life tend to be the ones who were popular at school but didn't do much else afterwards apart from living off that popularity, just like Josh. That's not to say all popular kids at school do this obviously. Personally speaking I had some great and not-so-great times at school, which in hindsight is probably a good reflection of what real life is like in general.
I graduated high school last year and my best friends were in every one of them "uncool" groups that were mentioned. I freaking love this song it's so true to life. Wait they forgot one group my fellow speech & debate kids we were dope af.

I also didn’t do many extracurricular activities, but I still graduated with many friends (including but not limited to special needs assistants), and I guess moderately popular, despite never really feeling it. Also, I really feel like the band couple in this music video should have been a shoe-in for cutest couple in the yearbook.
NDs unite!! I wasn't popular but I had a friend who was kinda popular so I was known as B's friend. Senior year she got transferred and I became the poetry girl and while my yearbook has many signatures my name is misspelled several times 😭 college was a bit of an improvement I guess
