      I think it'll be a bit before that's doable at least if you want to travel any significant distance.
      Campers are HEAVY and would have a rather limited range.
      You can't just keep adding batteries as past a certain point your weight offsets any gain in capacity.
      Check out Car And Driver's review on the F-150 lightning. They estimate an under 100 mile range if towing at maximum.

    I love what Arrival are doing, hopefully they'll be the disrupters that the commercial vehicle industry needs. There's always been something about that van that was retro & yet modern. I could never quite put my finger on what it was. Then it struck me recently. I'm old enough to remember growing up in the countryside when grocery & butchers vans were the norm. No noe went to the supermarket, the shop came to you. The design of those old vans was quite like this, high roof, sliding doors, square sides etc. All of this makes perfect sense. I'm in my 60's I'm now back living where I grew up. What we've seen since covid came along is a renewed interest in local fresh food. Imagine one of these, carrying locally produced provenance food, travelling round, serving local communities? How awesome would that be?

    When I first saw the Alpha design a couple of years back on Fully Charged I was knocked out, it was fantastic and set to become iconic. When I first glimpsed the Beta iteration I thought I was looking at a 1980's concept mockup of a mk3 Transit - you've added way too much salt to the secret sauce.

    • @danielwhyatt3278
      @danielwhyatt3278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually I believe it was only 1 year ago that Fully Charged showed it. But yeah, they’ve done waaaay to much to this. Their brains must’ve defaulted to what we all know the most in terms of standard designs. This is a big shame. I’m betting there’s a more logical explanation though as to why they’ve gone and done this ‘that they done want to admit’ to the public.
      Reeeeally hope they go back to the Alpha design again. I definitely wouldn’t buy the Beta now.

    • @andygranger3662

      Yup the original was a better urban concept, albeit power consumption would be improved with a raked screen. The original looked similar to the electric delivery truck design I propsed in my final year engineering degree in 1976!

    I usually make a point not to judge when designs change because I know that it’s very likely that it’ll grow on me in the end. But I did struggle to get on board with the beta design of the van. And of course it’s grown on me now :) Can’t wait to see these (and the bus) out in the real world.

    I really appreciate the effort you're all putting into this sector of vehicles, making them easier to use and better for the world we live in too. Great work. But I do have to say, the Alpha looks WAAAY nicer than the Beta, the Alpha shape was what stopped me in my tracks, I would love to use that a personal vehicle. The Beta looks like most other vans, more dated and seems to lack the designer look. Just my opinion of course, you guys keep up the great work and stay safe :)

    I have a small delivery company & drive a 3.5t truck. I absolutely LOVE the Alpha design. Would be interested if a freezer conversion would be possible in an electric vehicle & still get mileage & payload. But being honest I don’t like the look of the Beta at tall & wouldn’t be seen dead driving it. That design looks like it’s got blind spots on the arches & the look to me is poor. However…. Make the Alpha & I’d love one. Also as some others have commented I’d be interested in seeing a camper version of the Alpha.

  • @jeffthesigma
    @jeffthesigma 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    To everyone saying they prefer the alpha design (I get it), remember this is a product meant to be used, not looked at. Drag is the aerodynamic force that opposes the vehicle motion through the air. We want more efficiency to be competitive. Commercial fleet purchasers will care very little about what it looks like. You are not the customer.

    • @LesBrecknell
      @LesBrecknell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not true Jeff, commercial operators actually care a huge amount about what their fleet says about their brand. In terms of aesthetics, the Beta is a huge backward step, and it will take more than a hipster designer spouting nonsense about visual noise on city streets and creating 'calming and iconic' to pursuade most. In my view its all a bit Emperors New Clothes.

  • @laurencemoon
    @laurencemoon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    some honest thoughts about choosing the design version:
    My honest appreciation for your works and efforts
    My honest impression: the alfa design is more iconic though...
    My honest question :I really can't understand, why it couldn't be as scalable as the beta design? you could theoretically stretch a strait vertical line to the infinity!!!
    My honest knowledge (as a student of automotive engineering): the shorter the wheelbase, the smaller the turning circle which is very important in narrow urban alleys and dead-ends.

It feels far more futuristic and gives a better viewing area than this one! I do hope that they will still consider selling the Alpha model as well, as I don’t think I’d end up getting this now.

    Love the concept and idea of micro factory but as a vehicle test engineer they have made the same mistakes as regular car makers. not getting test engineers like myself to give inputs. by giving the front screen a rake backwards they have created blind spots in the front pillars, and as its main use as a delivery vehicle the less blind spots are better. and as its used in cities drives like visibility.
    however hats off to the great manufacturing techniques.

On the other hand I'm no fleet owner so my opinion doesn't really matter. I just wanted to express my disappointment as a fan.

  • @ArizonaPoet
    @ArizonaPoet 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sadly, they didn't make it. OEM's missed opportunities to acquire these start-ups as think tanks for future vehicles, negating the need for current production and profit. Canoo, a parallel producer managed some smart, penny on the dollar purchases of Arrival's assets. Their next purchase will be Ford or GM plants to mass produce their products. Investments? Easy to come.
