Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha performing "Toi Qui Sus Le Néant Des Grandeurs De Ce Monde" from Verdi's opera Don Carlos during the 2021 Cardiff Singer Of The World Final.
The South African soprano won the Song Prize that year.
Her operatic repertoire includes Mathilde (Wilhelm Tell), the title role of Iphigénie en Tauride, Liù Turandot, and many more. She also has a busy concert calendar, performing for instance Barber Knoxville - The Summer of 1915 with the Washington National Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn Symphony No. 2 Lobegesang with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Elgar's The Apostles with the Hallé Orchestra, and a return to this year's BBC proms to perform Strauss Vier letzte Lieder, among many others. She also appears in recital at Wigmore Hall and for the Opéra National de Bordeaux.
In coming seasons, Rangwanasha's engagements include house debuts at the Hamburg State Opera and Washington National Opera, as well as a tour of Japan with the Royal Opera, and concert appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

What a wonderful singer ! A great voice, and she CAN sing. Beautiful equal voice from bottom to top, with rich low notes. Flawless technique. long long breath. Straight attacks.
She didn’t choose facility, she chose to sing the original version in French, and singing French is not easy for a non French speaking singer, nasal vowels in particular. She does it wonderfully. She must have had a remarkably good coach for French, she still retains a bit of an accent, of course, but she is fully intelligible in her declamation of the text.

The greatest single performance of that final. And it was quite a year. Anyway, she's now Pappano's Verdi soprano of choice - performing the Verdi Requiem with him in Rome, and this easter in Salzburg.
