    my dad would play this almost every day or whenever he had his free time. he recently passed 6 months ago. i’ll miss those times when we would play together on this game. this game holds a special place in my heart and i’m glad my dad was able to show me this game 10 years ago when i was 5-6. i’m 16 now, and i still play this game from time to time.

      I remember there was a coop feature. The first of the civ games to have it. I played with my brother and dad as well… pains me to hear your loss,just remember as long as you play the games, the memories lives on.

      Ditto to that. I'd watch my dad play this for hours on end as a little kid. I lost my dad a few years back to cancer, and I very dearly remember those days as a kid. Just sitting on the arm of his chair as he'd build up his cities. Truly a wonderful time.

    My grandpa would play this all the time, and I would sit next to him in his study and watch him, and he would explain how things work. Now I play the Civilisation games, from 4 to 6, and he is currently 87 and plays civilisation 6 in his spare time.

    First video game I ever played, and this was the introduction. It enraptured me with a love of history and people at the age of 10, showing me the beauty of mankind in a new way I still haven't found. I may have played thousands of hours of Civ IV, but I never get tired of that intro.

    • @hotman718

      +MrDarthBaker Really probably one of the best games ever made. I played Civilization 2 when I was in middle school about 10 years ago. It introduced me to the series and I fell in love with the game immediately. I used to stay in math class with my teacher and she would let me play the game on the computer during lunch. Civilization 4 is the best game of the series I still play it to this day and have for years.

    Those of you who say Turkey or Albania, it's actually in present-day Greece. That is the Battle of Actium; the bay is the right shape, it's hilly, and Antony's fortifications are in the right place. Also the Battle of Actium led to Octavian's becoming the first emperor of Rome, which is what the second half is about.

      Funny that Augustus wasn't included in the game until the Warlords expansion.

    • @HaaraaldEriksson
      @HaaraaldEriksson 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      One little problem with this theory: Octavian - Augustus didn't have a beard.
      That's no joke, beards were not very popular to the Romans in this time. And you won't find any statue depicting Augustus with a beard.

      I immediately thought Greece as well. How anybody was off, especially after seeing the Roman soldiers storm the walls of a obviously Greek city state, I was baffled by. But then again not everyone shares my love of history and geography.

      Beards were only popular if the emperor had a beard.
      And they weren't when he hadn't got one.

    It was February, early 2006. My grandparents let me buy a single video game from the store. My only experience with the _Civilization_ series was only connected to Civilization 2 thus far, so I did not quite know what to expect from the fourth installment. I remember the intro started playing; I listened to the choir, I watched the sequence. I gazed with awe at the cartoony battle scene. Then the part with the old leader passing his crown to his heir kicked in - and suddenly every memory from the second game reappeared, as my head began to ponder what limitless possibilities and adventures lied ahead of me.
    And that was the beginning of a love that holds up even to this day.

      Might get kind of disappointed if you switch to IV from V, if you're really enjoying V. They're vastly different, though both are great games in my opinion. The fifth doesn't just feel as sandboxy as the fourth.

      I experienced the same thing around 2008/2009 - I was stuck on the main menu just soaking in the awesomeness for such a long time before I even tried out the game. It wasn't long before I found myself just dumping several hours into the game effortlessly, and not paying much attention to the text messages on my flip phone. Every time I started the game back up, I always took a moment to appreciate the feel of the main menu.

      I'm an Atheist but I agree with you that this planet is beautiful and I wish we could all just share it with each other. Not caring about race, religion, sexuality.
      Harmony is a unrealistic but beautiful goal.

    • @SubidubidubiDu1
      @SubidubidubiDu1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bi$harp I don't care about race either, I love all people. And religion is not bad, it's the evildoers who are misusing it that are bad, and there are some religions which shouldn't even be in this world. If you ask me the world should have only one religion and it's Christianity but hey, the devil does his evil work so that's why we have thousands of religions today, which only makes things more difficult
      Harmony will come once Heavenly Kingdom is established, but that won't happen before Jesus returns. Now I know you are an Atheist and that you don't believe in it, but it's gonna happen whether we believe or not, and why is it gonna happen? It's simple, all evil and suffering on this world must come to an end some day. It can't go on forever.

      I'm sorry, but I just got a buzz about you posting this, and you've just contracted yourself:
      "Religion is not bad" you say, and then you go on to say "but hey, the devil does his evil work so that's why we have thousands of religions today".
      That, and I'd disagree: I'm athiest, so I don't really have much of a vote in this, but if I was religious, I, a Welshman mind you, would put my faith into the Bahá'í Faith, a fairly young religion ,only a few hundred years old or so, which basically voices harmony of the different spiritual beliefs: In short, there is no one *right* way to worship god, indeed, all religions have some correctness in their practice. Personally, it's openness alone makes it look like a superior faith to me, on paper at least. Google it if you want to know more, I've dragged on already.

    When it zooms from space it does seem to go into northern Adriatic coeast, which is Croatia, but when it reaches the surface you can clearly see that the town is near the tip of a large peninsula, which is the Balkans. And you can see the massive landmass in the background which is Anatolia or Turkey, so the town shown is certainly not Troy. It is some town in the west balkans, possinly in Albania or near Ionian isles.

    The first civilization was Mesopotamian civilization and it began in present day Iraq, not in Syria. Humans developed in Africa, but civilization didn't began there, because Africa isn't very fertile and you have to survive all the time, while in Mesopotamia, the land is very fertile because of rivers Euphrates and Tigris. This allowed agriculture and people could do something else than hunt and survive.

    CIV IV is second best to CIV VI of course. This game was almost perfect except that the AI was a little bit too passive and docile even on harder difficulty levels. That is not the case with CIV VI immortal and deity, if anything, the AI tends to be really aggressive and slingers-archers are a must.

    • @TileBitan
      @TileBitan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if we account for the time in which civ iv was released, i think it was an utter success far above civ V or VI. Many people hated CIV V because it couldn't hold a candle to its predecessor until the expansions came, same with civ vi.
      Civ IV is the best game in the saga historically, but if leave dates behind, i agree. Right now CivVI is the best game the saga offers.

    You're right. I don't like 3D movies. In fact I fucking hate them. And so does a great portion of the audience that are being forced into going to see 3D movies because that's not something that arose out of popularity. It was a capitalistic scheme. The people doesn't have the power over these sort of things.

    And still, in 2022 the soud track is nowhere to be found ! such beautiful themes song along the whole game ... such a waste... if they had put it on deezer or spotify they would have made lot of money by now.. so much work into songs and others during cinematic and underated by the proper gam team realization...

      I think it was still targeted to kids at the time. Though I kinda feel like it's goofiness is what made it so good. I feel like the newer games take themselves a little too seriously.
