The story behind the yubis goes back to her debut stream, where she was doing so bad she had to get help from her genmates. All the hologamers started playing Splatoon together, and midgame Korone said she should have a thing that makes her special, something along the lines of "I'll ask for the viewers' fingers at the beginning of every stream as a greeting 'yubi yubi,' haha." And she actually did it, that crazy doggo.
Note she did this because of a twitter post where she said she wished she had more fingers so she could reply to all the messages directed to her and then people on twitter started offering her their fingers.

So there is one video of Okayu and Korone that I saw a long time ago that is somewhat obscure. This one is a clip from two 2019 streams, one from Okayu's perspective and the other from Korone's perspective. Said streams are privated since the great copyright purge happened sadly, but the clips are still there (I'll link it in the response to this comment, so youtube doesn't mark me down as a bot). It's a clip of Okayu saying how grateful she is to have met Korone and how happy she is to have joined Hololive together with Korone. Obviously she says she wouldn't have had any problems with joining Hololive along someone else, but she's still happy that she had joined alongside Korone. Okayu said she is very happy to have Korone as a friend, that whenever something good happens with Okayu, Korone is always the happiest for Okayu and Okayu says she's very blessed to have a friend like that. Now, usually, the rules are that you should avoid talking about other streams. But, I think we can agree that there are a few exceptions, this is one of them. A person named Hamada went to Korone, who at the time was streaming at the same time Okayu was, and told her what Okayu had said, about being happy to have met Korone. Korone breaks down in tears. Korone then goes on to explain her own situation. She's a very shy person, who has troubles with expressing herself well and connecting with others. She's very afraid that she'll say something wrong and make the other person hate her, so she tries to avoid talking too much, to avoid expressing herself much. For a long time she felt very lonely. Then comes Okayu. Okayu was the one who approached Korone. She starts up conversations with Korone, even though Korone is very shy and avoids talking much. Slowly, gently, Okayu gets Korone to open up more and more to her. Until they both become good friends. Korone says that she really admires Okayu, because Okayu will speak what's on her mind. That Okayu is able to do something she isn't capable of all the time since, again, Korone is very afraid of doing that and being hated. Still, she says, even though she has that fear of being hated, even though she thinks that she's a hassle to everyone and that she'll never be able to "cure" herself of that, Okayu understands that part of her and accepts Korone for who she is. So Korone is also very grateful to have met Okayu and she loves her a lot. This was back in 2019. Both Korone and Okayu have come a long way already. Korone has been able to get out of her shell more and more, with each passing day, she has even done more and more collabs with various other Hololive members. Came to comment on those clips as well. It's a damn shame they weren't shown as, IMO, they're pretty crucial to getting where Okayu and Korone are coming from. And it was still not THAT long after Korone had her previous vtuber dealio cancelled so she was likely still a bit apprehensive/unsure if this Hololive one was gonna work out. Thankfully it most certainly did and soon it'll be two years since and she's one of the most well known vtubers out there and comes across as being completely comfortable with being on stream and doing whatever she wants.

As for how Okayu and Korone know each other before Hololive. They were both students and Korone "worked part time in a bakery" which Okayu went to, Okayu thought Korone was really shy and awkward but found her funny, so she wanted to be her friend. Eventually they became great friends, and Korone started getting out of her shell. They both developed an interest in vtubers, and Okayu was the one who encouraged Korone to apply with her to Hololive, and they both got in. If it wasn't for Okayu we wouldn't have the happy and bubbly Korone we have today, Okayu is a great person. It's amazing how much Korone has grown since her debut, both her personality and her TH-cam channel now over 1mil subs, but the cornerstone of Korone's channel is definitely Okayu supporting Korone along the way.
Incase it doesnt get explained well, Okayu talks about how she befriended a very shy Korone years ago after Korono would ritually visit Okayus family onigiri shop.
Korone is an interesting standout as far as personality. She's a huge fan of extreme horror movies and American cinema, she loves American music and stuff, and she does 10-hour streams playing through entire old SNES games in one shot. Obviously all of the creators stream for their own reasons, but she's one that just honestly feels like she's doing exactly what she wants to do in life. She's always having a good time and it really shows. But also she's into some really out-there stuff compared to her peers, which is really interesting.
A great example of that is literally her stream today. Everyone else in holo has been playing Mario Kart 8 whether training, with other members, or with viewers. Korone today played Super Mario Kart. It's just so fitting and really encapsulates her.

Giving your finger is also a gesture of loyalty in Japan, coming from the samurai period and then adopted into Yakuza culture. So asking for everyone's yubi's is just asking everyone to be loyal, and then all the games she played involving fingers and you have the recipe for a good meme.
It's been a very long running thing for her. Even as her official greeting. She takes our yubis at the beginning of the stream and if we're really lucky she will give them back at the end! (Spoilers, she never gives them back and always 'forgets' about them or lets them go bad. So we get back the blue, rotten yubi. Or surprises us with a cake that has our own yubi in it making us eat our own fingers unaware.
Korone's first stream is really important as it was a bit of a disaster. Okayu was there to help Korone, who was very stressed out in the beginning. Korone is actually a introverted person who didn't want to work with anyone else in the beginning except Okayu, who she knew prior to working at hololive. I do recommend watching Korones first stream, it's very important in truly understanding Korone and Okayu. Also, in terms of Korone gaming she is a master of Splatoon. Also 2, Korone is the biggest weirdo in Hololive, in a good way. Also 3, Korone has the best endurance in Hololive. She can do 24+ hour streams quite easily compared to most. Even playing the fitness game she was the most full of energy by far.
Background to "Yubi, Yubi" (which translates to "Finger, Finger") - during her twitter debut (which often comes about a month before their actual stream debut to build hype) Korone was trying to reply to every message she got. Doing so was very taxing so she wished she had a hundred more fingers and asked her fans to give her theirs. Then in the first stream she had with the other Gamers she was trying to find a catchphrase/opening line for her streams and suggested "Finger, Finger, give me your finger."; yes, Korone is special like that. The "Yubi, Yubi" part stuck and now viewers regularely give her their fingers at the start of a stream and presumably get them back afterwards, although accounts on that differ... So Korone's finger fascination has been around almost since her debut.
Missing link there is that Korone was deliriously sick during her debut and, other than Okayu, most of Gamers had no idea what to make of her... Mio recommended it as a one-off joke to poke fun at Korone for having said a strange thing on twitter, but it wasn't the *cold* that was making Korone a strange person- and so, to everybody's surprise, other than Okayu, she ran with it.

The story as we've been told is: Korone's family (grandparents) run a Japanese bakery, and Okayu's family runs an onigiri shop. They met as kids and bonded over that, and have been together since. Something that should be noted about okayu and korone are that they are childhood friends and joined hololive together after being independent content creators together. That should explain why they mesh so well.

There's honestly no real "joke" in that skit from our perspective. In Japan the skits are very slapsticky and aim to be catchy like slogans, but this skit is just doing the loud T-theme song and then trying to be creative about what ridiculous abstract spaces you can find the letter T. But then again I've maybe watched the original duo do it once, and watched a bunch of idols do their imitations while they try not to cringe in embarrassment.

Korone and her Doom stream. That was what caused me to fall into the rabbit hole. I'd seen Fubuki and Miko clips appear on my recommended but it wasn't until I watched a dog play Doom that I got properly hooked. And I don't regret the fall one bit.
I understand that feeling when they're together. I think everyone has experienced this at least once in their life. You meet up with this one friend, and the two of you are just in a mood where you are really hyper and almost everything will make you laugh, and maybe you do that thing where you're both laughing, and then one after another you just keep saying dumb stuff to each other and laugh like complete maniacs until you're either almost out of breathe or close to throwing up. It might not come often, but when it does, by god is it the most fun thing ever. I can understand why you did them together. They are probably the most wholesome duo in hololive. Sure, there are plenty of “ships” in hololive but non that standout like korone and okayu. I will say that I am a little disappointed they didn’t get their own episodes to truly shine, because there is so much great content. Hopefully when you finish everyone else you can come back to them even if it’s a shorter video. Ps. I know you don’t show none of their singing clips, but I at least hope you got to see the karaoke clip where okayu sings and korone raps. That’s what originally introduced me to them.

I want to clarify where “Yubi Yubi” came from (I’ve only watched a bit of the review where Fan explains it with the Limbo video and not all of it yet). During Korone’s debut stream, she was an anxious mess where she had to invite all of HoloGamers because she couldn’t function during her stream. They all played Splatoon together and Korone explained that she wanted a crazy and “out of nowhere” catchphrase to be unique and said “I want some crazy greeting like ‘Give me your finger’ or something” and the GAMERS (ESPECIALLY Mio) died laughing because of it

I'm going to be honest, I love all of them but okayu she literally saved me from depression, I had very hard weeks a few months ago where I felt like I was sinking, but at the end of the day I get home after work and despite not understanding almost anything about the streams or clips of it, just watching her or listening to her having fun made me smile and feel good even before I realized it, and when I realized I realized I had simply fallen in love with her hopelessly, I just love her

Korone is awesome. Boxing is one of her hobbies and she was one of the first to embrace the overseas fans, starting a round of english only streams that spread throughout the hololive members. If you haven't seen them I highly recommend. Okayu's voice is so soothing that it came as a surprise to everybody when she admitted on stream that she used to hate her voice. They truly are something special. They have several karaoke streams that are some of the funnest streams I've seen.
My favorite part of that is during heavy rain when she looks all scared, then the voice says that the guy needs to cut off his finger, and Korone's face just lights up as she gathers up different yubi removers weighing the pros and cons of each of them.
I'm so glad you watched that letter from Okayu to Korone at the end, it's my favorite and you can tell how hard it was for Korone to get words out because she's socially awkward but she's comfortable enough to do it because it's her. I love their dynamic and chemistry and both of them
As a long time Korone fan its nice to finally see this episode, Okakoro really dragged me into the rabbit hole and I love to see others experience where I started out.
Actually yubi yubi is kinda like her own signature word like "kyou mo kawaii" from suisei and she thought about it herself like suisei. It's from back then when korone plays splatoon with some other girls and she said that she doesn't have strong impression to viewers and she had an idea to ask yubi(finger) from viewers that subscribed and she rolls with it, then the thing with limbo happened/boomed when she got sooooo happy with cutting the spider legs.
Okayu and then Botan of the 5th gen are just so calming to listen to (both of the cats, humorously enough (even though Botan is a lion)). And Okayu has, in my opinion, one of the best singing voices because it's so deep and easy on the ears.

To be honest when I saw you combining Korone and Okayu into one episode I understood it but I was worried the content would be a little watered down but I was so wrong. This was one of the best Hololive reviews you have done. I have absolutely no problem with videos this long. I've loved Korone for a while and I'm just starting to see more of Okayu and she's adorable. I love how she laughs so freely. She's like a mischievous cat who pulls a silly prank one someone and then just sits back and laughs out loud when it plays out.
"Tune in and just eat a sandwich". A few months ago I regularly ate breakfast while listening to a vtuber. Okayu was very frequently my choice. I get yah on the sandwich suitability of Okayu, she's remarkably soothing on solo streams.

Whether you want to speculate about it being platonic, familial, or romantic, you can’t deny that this is love.
One of the best part about OkaKoro is that Korone literally is like an energetic dog while Okayu is like a cool cat.

As for how Okayu and Korone know each other before Hololive.
They were both students and Korone "worked part time in a bakery" which Okayu went to, Okayu thought Korone was really shy and awkward but found her funny, so she wanted to be her friend. Eventually they became great friends, and Korone started getting out of her shell. They both developed an interest in vtubers, and Okayu was the one who encouraged Korone to apply with her to Hololive, and they both got in.
If it wasn't for Okayu we wouldn't have the happy and bubbly Korone we have today, Okayu is a great person. It's amazing how much Korone has grown since her debut, both her personality and her TH-cam channel now over 1mil subs, but the cornerstone of Korone's channel is definitely Okayu supporting Korone along the way.

Korone is an interesting standout as far as personality. She's a huge fan of extreme horror movies and American cinema, she loves American music and stuff, and she does 10-hour streams playing through entire old SNES games in one shot. Obviously all of the creators stream for their own reasons, but she's one that just honestly feels like she's doing exactly what she wants to do in life. She's always having a good time and it really shows. But also she's into some really out-there stuff compared to her peers, which is really interesting.
A great example of that is literally her stream today. Everyone else in holo has been playing Mario Kart 8 whether training, with other members, or with viewers. Korone today played Super Mario Kart. It's just so fitting and really encapsulates her.

Korone's first stream is really important as it was a bit of a disaster. Okayu was there to help Korone, who was very stressed out in the beginning. Korone is actually a introverted person who didn't want to work with anyone else in the beginning except Okayu, who she knew prior to working at hololive. I do recommend watching Korones first stream, it's very important in truly understanding Korone and Okayu.
Also, in terms of Korone gaming she is a master of Splatoon.
Also 2, Korone is the biggest weirdo in Hololive, in a good way.
Also 3, Korone has the best endurance in Hololive. She can do 24+ hour streams quite easily compared to most. Even playing the fitness game she was the most full of energy by far.

Background to "Yubi, Yubi" (which translates to "Finger, Finger") - during her twitter debut (which often comes about a month before their actual stream debut to build hype) Korone was trying to reply to every message she got. Doing so was very taxing so she wished she had a hundred more fingers and asked her fans to give her theirs.
Then in the first stream she had with the other Gamers she was trying to find a catchphrase/opening line for her streams and suggested "Finger, Finger, give me your finger."; yes, Korone is special like that. The "Yubi, Yubi" part stuck and now viewers regularely give her their fingers at the start of a stream and presumably get them back afterwards, although accounts on that differ...
So Korone's finger fascination has been around almost since her debut.

The story as we've been told is:
Korone's family (grandparents) run a Japanese bakery, and Okayu's family runs an onigiri shop. They met as kids and bonded over that, and have been together since. Koro is currently helping her grandma in the bakery and Okayu helping her family's bakery, alongside streaming. Very cute couple, thank you for a tear-jerking video!

There's honestly no real "joke" in that skit from our perspective. In Japan the skits are very slapsticky and aim to be catchy like slogans, but this skit is just doing the loud T-theme song and then trying to be creative about what ridiculous abstract spaces you can find the letter T. But then again I've maybe watched the original duo do it once, and watched a bunch of idols do their imitations while they try not to cringe in embarrassment.

You meet up with this one friend, and the two of you are just in a mood where you are really hyper and almost everything will make you laugh, and maybe you do that thing where you're both laughing, and then one after another you just keep saying dumb stuff to each other and laugh like complete maniacs until you're either almost out of breathe or close to throwing up. It might not come often, but when it does, by god is it the most fun thing ever. I get that kinda vibe from the two of them together, where you just do a bunch of dumb stuff and just laugh at the most minute and stupid stuff ever. I love it

I can understand why you did them together. They are probably the most wholesome duo in hololive. Sure, there are plenty of “ships” in hololive but non that standout like korone and okayu.
I will say that I am a little disappointed they didn’t get their own episodes to truly shine, because there is so much great content. Hopefully when you finish everyone else you can come back to them even if it’s a shorter video.

I want to clarify where “Yubi Yubi” came from (I’ve only watched a bit of the review where Fan explains it with the Limbo video and not all of it yet). During Korone’s debut stream, she was an anxious mess where she had to invite all of HoloGamers because she couldn’t function during her stream. They all played Splatoon together and Korone explained that she wanted a crazy and “out of nowhere” catchphrase to be unique and said “I want some crazy greeting like ‘Give me your finger’ or something” and the GAMERS (ESPECIALLY Mio) died laughing because of it

I'm going to be honest, I love all of them but okayu she literally saved me from depression, I had very hard weeks a few months ago where I felt like I was sinking, but at the end of the day I get home after work and despite not understanding almost anything about the streams or clips of it, just watching her or listening to her having fun made me smile and feel good even before I realized it, and when I realized I realized I had simply fallen in love with her hopelessly, I just love her

Korone is awesome. Boxing is one of her hobbies and she was one of the first to embrace the overseas fans, starting a round of english only streams that spread throughout the hololive members. If you haven't seen them I highly recommend. Okayu's voice is so soothing that it came as a surprise to everybody when she admitted on stream that she used to hate her voice. They truly are something special. They have several karaoke streams that are some of the funnest streams I've seen.
A lot of people tune into her stream cause she's cute and all that, but she does really have a scary yandere side that need more clips of lol.
My favorite part of that is during heavy rain when she looks all scared, then the voice says that the guy needs to cut off his finger, and Korone's face just lights up as she gathers up different yubi removers weighing the pros and cons of each of them.
I'm so glad you watched that letter from Okayu to Korone at the end, it's my favorite and you can tell how hard it was for Korone to get words out because she's socially awkward but she's comfortable enough to do it because it's her. I love their dynamic and chemistry and both of them

As a long time Korone fan its nice to finally see this episode, Okakoro really dragged me into the rabbit hole and I love to see others experience where I started out.
Actually yubi yubi is kinda like her own signature word like "kyou mo kawaii" from suisei and she thought about it herself like suisei.
It's from back then when korone plays splatoon with some other girls and she said that she doesn't have strong impression to viewers and she had an idea to ask yubi(finger) from viewers that subscribed and she rolls with it, then the thing with limbo happened/boomed when she got sooooo happy with cutting the spider legs.
Okayu and then Botan of the 5th gen are just so calming to listen to (both of the cats, humorously enough (even though Botan is a lion)). And Okayu has, in my opinion, one of the best singing voices because it's so deep and easy on the ears.

I've loved Korone for a while and I'm just starting to see more of Okayu and she's adorable. I love how she laughs so freely. She's like a mischievous cat who pulls a silly prank one someone and then just sits back and laughs out loud when it plays out.
Okayu singing Haapy End by Back Number to Korone still is my favourite clip of them. Them doing rap duets together is a close second.

A few months ago I regularly ate breakfast while listening to a vtuber. Okayu was very frequently my choice.
