Not Elpern, but I think the reasoning is less that Airborne is bad and more that the other options are better. If you want elite infantry, Rangers hit the field at the same timing while allowing you to convert Riflemen rather than add additional squads, making the transition easier. Rangers are overall stronger than Paras, and much better at forcing wipes. Since most US builds go through Motorpool anyway, getting access to the airdropped ATG is a lot less important.
Why would axis be buffed? I don't think there's anything warranting one. I for one am just glad the game didn't just go into maintenance mode following the downsizing.
I'd also try out the 17 pounder with team weapon training. With training it only needs to pen 2 shots to hit vet 1, at which point it benefits from the 20% rate of fire buff and the model health goes up to 135, which is really high - especially considering how spread out the squad is. Doesn't even matter if it gets wiped so long as you keep the truck alive and destroy the gun, as you can then refund the truck and get another 17 pounder at only minor cost. The tiger can only be in one place at a time so you can either dance with it by listening for it in the fog of war and going towards it with your army and a direct counter like the archer, black prince, 17pndr, or AT loiter, or doing the exact opposite and pushing hard where it isn't using grants and things to try and deal damage, threaten base, etc...
Seems like no meta videos for June and July came out. Seems like the game is dead. Shame cause I just wanted to check it out again after a long time, but I can't find any relevant videos for the latest patches, literally no one is making any informational content.
