A screw type hose clamp also works well as a ring compressor. It is plenty wide enough for two rings, is adjustable for different size pistons, and reusable.
Reusable cable ties are a thing, I have some and they are a bit thicker than the ones you are using (like most of my ex girlfriends). Think I found them in Lidl ( like my last girlfriend).

Keith, you can also use a worm drive hose clamps
Yes indeed, but I don't have any worm drive hose clamps - just simple cable ties .......
another option is a jubilee clip instead of cable ties works pretty well

A hose clamp the ones you use a screwdriver with the are the best for compressing the piston rings and it's reusable
