    I have a 2008 Golf Mk5 1.9tdi PD BXE - purchased at 50,000 miles 8 years ago. Now at 197,000. Oil changed every 6000 and gearbox oil changed twice. Engine has never been taken apart, only a new alternator fitted at 175,000 and 2 Cambelt kits fitted. Still on original turbo, clutch, injectors and exhaust. Driven with care and washed every week -weather permitting! Best car I’ve ever owned. Touch wood, it will keep going! 🙂

      I'm a long term subscriber of this channel. A lot of people don't realise that if you press the skip button on the adverts during these videos, Andrew doesn't get any commission. So for the sake of 20 seconds just let the adverts run and support these guys. Otherwise they'll go. And we don't want that do we. 😢

      I had same BXE engine in my Octavia 07 plate & had 425,000 when I sold it, 530 miles to the tank, wife has same engine in her golf 5 & got 625 miles to her tank, with it being lighter she got more miles plus she drove 48 miles per day on the motor to & from work, mine was a taxi. Now got 06 BKC engine in a 06 Octavia with only 170,000. Had it blanked off & anti shutter from darkside…. No smoke at all, it’s surprising. Renewed everything on it, I’ve spend min 3k on it & currently on sale on gumtree Scotland, brand new bilstein b4 all round with new springs, 2020 mk3 wheels with 4 new uniroyal, only selling cause I’ve now want to spend a fortune on my mk3 2.0 tdi DSG 😂🫣

    One thing I would add is that the plastic oil filter housing goes brittle with age and you can sheer off the hexagon nut shape even using a torque wrench same goes for oil filter housing drain plug. it's a swine to remove, and i still haven't got mine off yet!

    Well have fought the fight today to get the old broken one off, a strap wrench does do not work neither does the 3 pronged type with 3 holes drilled through the old housing to locate it, what does work is using a long pry bar and hammer into the the drilled holes and knock it round that way. And yes you would be proper screwed on a Sunday and it's not a part my local VW dealer had on the shelf either.

    One of the most easiest preventative maintenence tasks any DIY mechanic can do, I do mine twice a year, over the top I know as its only 3 or 4000 miles, but it's piece of mind, and like Andrew says there possibly won't be that many diesels around in a few years time, and I want to look after mine, it might be worthwhile to check the timing belt and change it earlier than vw recommends, along with the waterpump.
    I like to keep meticulous maintenence records and log it on VW's digital service schedule.

      All I can say is that is what VW say for that engine, it's specified on the check sheet the service advisor will give to the technician. It's possible that the nozzle could damage something maybe, such as oil pump mesh - a small risk but a risk.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like truck oil is good as trucks can do massive miles - 5w30 is the same as VW recommend, do you think it's different being for a truck? A key point is that oil is no longer prioritising the health of the engine, it's also important that the oil is thin and reduces emissions which maybe is less of a priority with truck manufacturers. With a petrol engine I'd go 5w/40 but due to DPF it needs to be low ash hence the VW spec
