Welcome back Donnie !! Something to consider. We just finished a cabin with v-match yellow pine walls and ceilings. After placing test pieces of moldings we felt the moldings took away from the v-match. After pondering we ended using Almond colored caulking up and down all corner and gable end walls. We absolutely love it. The cabin feels more like a cabin with the caulking looking like chinking instead of trim not to mention it looks bigger without chunky moldings in a small space. Just wanted to pass that along in case you're interested. Always enjoy your videos !
Funny that you guys took an old recliner to the camp. At our camp we call it the place you take layboys to die. Seemed like every time somebody bought a new one, the old one ended up at camp. Our camp has been in our family since 1936 so you can imagine how many ended up there.
Joe, on my easy chair and couch I took a 1-4 and made platform for them to set on and use zip ties to hold them on .you guys have a beautiful place up there.i wish I lived closer I would help. I'm 75 and a widower. God bless you guys and hope that you guys have a great hunting season. Larry Smith from Oklahoma.
Welcome back Donnie, awesome job on the cedar Joe,can't wait to see the shinannigans when Brandon and the boys all get together in the new cabin ,keep up the good work
I 💯 would donate some custom cabinets for this project. Only issue is you are across the country from my cabinet shop. Would love to donate to you and Donnie. If you guys build your own cabinets and need a hand I’ll book a flight and come help 👍🏼
As soon as I hear Donnie’s voice it instantly brings a smile to my face, he is a national treasure. Joe youare super lucky to be friends with such a great human .love the videos joe
Very similar to how we built our camp, open layout with two bedrooms and and a loft in the back with the bathroom off to the side, compost toilet works great but we winterize it and use the outhouse in the cold season.
Joe I bought the same lights and hook them up to multiple dimmers from lutron ranging from 20-30 bucks a dimmer. As far as the lights only dimming thirty percent, I was skeptical when I saw that on the package. Once hooked up they dim way more
You got it looking good but just an idea when you put your switches in for the lights, put one living room and the other two outside lights at the main door and then at the door to the bedroom put the other three switches
2 switches by the bedroom door on the way to the outhouse. 1 for an outhouse light and 1 for a small plug in electric heater for the winter and a bathroom fan in the summer. That way you can warm it up before you go outside.
Hey alright back in the north woods in a warm cabin and Donnie’s cooking, just what I needed! I’m wondering what it looks like now with this big cold snow storm coming through there. 1-15-23
If you are going to have propane you should install a few gas lights, they throw lots of heat and it will be alot quieter than the generator running, especially in the winter. Plus you will have lights if something goes wrong with the generator.
Those danged mice. I hate meeses to pieces. These meals Donnie cooks are some improvement over the peanut butter sandwiches of the early days of this build.
Love your shoe Joe, would recommend some vapour barrier on those outside walls especially with the wood stove otherwise you may be dealing with condensation. If you haven’t finished the ceiling yet, would recommend vapour barrier there as well.
We put a wrap around the outside of the building and then boarding boards, should be good to go. The stuff we used is like a roof wrap stronger version than typar.
That’s great for waterproofing, unfortunately doesn’t prevent condensation from building up inside the walls. Wish I were there with you guys enjoying the great outdoors and building the cottage. Like I mentioned, love what you guys are doing and the videos you’ve put out.
Great trip with Donnie. Interior is looking great. Your StarLink needs to go as high as possible to get the signal pass an obstructions like trees. Especially when they have leaves in the summer and Fall. I put mine on the very peak of my Cabin. If it’s one of those portable StarLink systems I would build a platform on the peak with a permanent ladder for easily going up and down all year long. Anyways, just my two cents. Can’t wait for the next episode and be safe and have fun.
Donnie's finally back!!!
finally!

Absolutely beautiful

we had thought about it. ended up skipping it for now.
Coming along nicely. Hopefully the weather is turning colder for a little bit 😊
Hope so! thank you.
Camps looking good. You could always add a dimmer switch to those lights.
for sure thanks
Just seen the part where you and Donnie are talking about a dimmer switch.
Welcome back Donnie. Joe I know it’s a bummer you have to drive so far to get service but on the brute side you get to hunt that whole ride

What @JoeHollandFishing, no vapor barrier over the insulation on the interior of the outside walls?!
No,
Love your shoe Joe, would recommend some vapour barrier on those outside walls especially with the wood stove otherwise you may be dealing with condensation. If you haven’t finished the ceiling yet, would recommend vapour barrier there as well.
Would be a shame to ruin all that nice wood you’re putting up.

Are you putting in a propane stove and oven? Or are you going to put in batteries and try electric?

Why does my comment keep disappearing?
