At 5:57, you start adjusting the endpoints to turn on and off the layers. Is there a way, possibly a shortcut key, to split that red layer bar up into multiple pieces so that you can have it on, then turn it off, then turn it back on again? When I was practicing, I just adjusted the z layer so that the other two layers were perfectly hidden.
And here is what I made while practicing this new technique:
