"You can do this too . . . alone. It's okay." Encouraging words for those of us that want to follow in your footsteps. Dixie, you are an inspiration to hike the A.T.
What a brave thing for you to do, hiking alone on the AT. That kind of adventure will be something you will remember the rest of your life. Hiking alone on such a long trek, is like facing the unknown with real fortitude, true courage. It is a treat to watch!
+Michael Hollingsworth Thank you! It was definitely something to overcome mentally, but I truly got to know myself. Haha. I think of the AT (and PCT) everyday.
that had to be some strong wind, it blew the spit out of you. hang in there you are doing great. i started in parisburg and did not make it to the first shelter it takes good mental and physical stuff. you my friend have it all. great job!!!!
You go Dixie! I'm sending you good vibes and prayers. Followed you the whole way and really want to see you finish this year. You are, literally, a walking inspiration!
If it is the same lady I think you are talking about then she was found in her tent a few miles off the at. :/ apparently she was looking for a phone signal and had unsent messages to her family. Sad story but I am happy they ended up finding her remains so her family can have some sort of closure.
Been watching all your videos and would emphasize to your viewers that when it comes to the positive attitude, endurance, determination, wise decision-making and love of nature it takes to be a successful long-distance hiker, you possess these traits in abundance. Check out her blog, everybody. She's a good writer and photographer.
It is awesome seeing your comments on other A.T vids. Im planning a thru hike next year and I just want to thank you, Dixie, and others for their videos and tips. Super helpful, you guys rock!!
You've such a great attitude when things are hard going 💗 I grew up beside a forest but I'm always too scared to walk up there alone 😶 really admire your guts and outlook 🌼💗🌸
Hang in there Dixie, you seem pretty down in this video. You are an amazingly strong girl and I could only dream of accomplishing what you are about to do! Push through and show that trail what you are made of! You are a true inspiration.
Hopefully, you are finished by now. BSP closes to camping on Oct 15 and there is snow in the forecast for Oct 18. I have watched every video of your hike.
Dixie, you are a True Inspiration to us all! Have enjoyed watching your whole journey and hate to see it end. Wednesdays I always look forward to seeing new vids! YOU ROCK GIRL!!
From st Simons Go Dixie! I do realize you are probly already home but still Go Dixie! I really enjoy all yer vids. I'm gonna do some AT section hikes this winter in ga. Have you ever hiked at Cumberland island? It's beautiful and wild horses. go Dixie!
Hey did you know they finally found the missing lady 2 years later she had gotten lost on trail after a bathroom break and never found her way back very sad
Wow.... the missing hiker she mentioned at the end (Gerry “Inchworm” Largay) was actually found literally 2 weeks later after this video’s filming, after 2 years missing. Sadly she was found deceased, and she was very close to civilization, but the forest was just so incredibly dense and there was some miscommunication issues with the search, so the searchers had been looking in the wrong areas. Very sad story
Maine is such a beautiful state. It's the home state of the great Novelist, Steven King :) I love the pig pet. You're doing great. And great to see you're taking good care of your safe. God Bless :)
Curious, and perhaps you've already answered this in another vid (I started with all the thru hike vids, I'll get to the rest when you cross that line). What trail guide did you use for your hike? Did you consider going SOBO to get Maine out of the way at the start?
she said in a comment on another video, that if she would ever hike the AT again, she would go Northbound again. You build up the strength/endurance in the south, so you are ready for the mountains in the north.
You almost might have waited out another day. I don't see a Update 39. I suppose the farmhouse is like a bed & breakfast. Hope you get viewers as these episodes age.
I just read an in depth article on the lady you spoke of who was lost on the AT in that area. For anyone wishing read about this incident just google "Woman goes missing on appalachian trail" or "How could a woman just vanish? by Kathryn Miles" or google the missing woman's name "Geraldine Largay"...
+mobiltec I remember reading about her when this happened and I just read the article you referenced. What's a little creepy is that as I was finishing the article there was a link to a new article saying that the Maine Warden Service just announced today (Oct 16) that they believe they found her remains. There's a news conference scheduled for 1pm.
+Homemade Wanderlust www.cnn.com/2015/10/16/us/maine-missing-hiker-remains-found/index.html Is the link to an article about it. Watching the weather, I hope you've finished and are warm and at home today!
Yes it is. I just sent you a link to our section hike from last month on your facebook via Heather Marie. We need to reupload last years section video. got pulled from youtube because of the copywrite songs ..ooops
As a Mainer, this southern Dixie should have been better prepared for hiking in the north woods of Maine in late September at higher elevations. Of course it may snow or even turn to ice. I wish she would've had the humility to admit her mistakes and suggest to people how to avoid them instead of complaining about the weather and acting as if she some kind of hero, but then it wouldn't be all about her.
Big deal you are a Mainer, have you ever hiked over 2,000 miles or spent a few months on the trail, we all have bad days. I am from NE and have spent a lot of time in the back country and the truth is sometimes our weather just sucks. Take care

You can do this Dixie! I have faith in you! Can't wait to see that Katahdin video!
Stressful is right. I'm scared to death just watching! So glad you made it!
Sensodyne! :) Finally someone I met on the trail lol reliving old trail memories. Its not hard to do... Thanks for the videos!

I believe so and there was no foul play, she just got lost. Truly sad.

Wow, staying in that shelter, by yourself, where a woman had gone missing in 2013, took a lot of guts, and a very strong resolve. All the respect!!
Well, it was an elderly woman who was known to get lost. Mental decline was her problem, not evil doers.
I'm enjoying your videos. Thanks for making and posting them. ATB
+tim keele Thank you for watching!
waitin' on coffee...yea that would be me. first thing i need on a hike/campout is my coffee

Keep on going - you can do it.
My fear is Baxter is close to closing - the season is drawing a close. And, Mt. Washington has snow now...

Fess up: Are you still hanging food in a bear bag? :) (Do you have the energy?)
Love your attitude!
Thank you! I try to stay optimistic :)
You are the coolest chick ever! Thanks for the great videos. You inspire me. Onward to Katadhin!!

Very easy to see your no-character quotient.
I can’t believe this comment is real
well, Pat, you sound like you're really fun!!
