    I am on the homosexual side of the Kinsey scale, and I have done a lot of thinking about why people are homophobic; the only definitive reason I have ever come up with is exactly this! There is no reason to harbor so much hate for something that literally has no effect on you...unless it really does have an effect on you, i.e one must have secret, repressed, and confusing homosexual desires in order to have so much hate towards homosexuals. Otherwise, why does it matter at all in any way what other people do if they're not hurting anybody else? Glad to know science agrees. I wish there was a way to help these people, for them and for the sake of my people.

      Hey, they have to make money too. They spend all day making videos. That's their business. Seeing as they only get a tiny fraction of a cent for each view by people who don't use ad blockers, that's all they make. Seeing as they start out getting NO benefits, no social security, zip, just youtube income. Few can make it. Apparently, the Greens, can. More power to them.

      I recall seeing significantly less advertisements in Europe (Ireland, Germany, Italy). The ads were only in between shows, and only advertised other shows on the same network... no cars, foods, websites, and (enjoyably) no medicine ads. Likely related, European countries like Denmark and Finland are always ranked highest in the world in terms of happiness. I know there are other factors that contribute, such as stability, low crime rates, strong social security programs, etc, but I believe at least some of it can be linked to the freedom from incessant advertising.

    Alright listen, I admit I am a homophobe, (I apologize to any gay people I may have offended by admitting this), but I have no hatred of any gay people. I would like to remind you all that Homophobia is the fear of homosexuals, not the hatred. I do assert my straightness more than a normal guy may do, but thats just because I like women, their great! Aha. Also, I was not raised in a household that hates gay people or that fear them, and I don't have attraction to the other gender. So this study is kind of untrue. The whole point of this comment was to just explain that there is a difference between Homophobia and hating gays. If you are going to reply to this comment please do so in a respectful manner, and I will return the courtesy.

      ***** During my life I've had some bad experiences which sort of pushed me into feeling scared of them. Well for instance there is Clourophobia, (the fear of clowns). People don't just randomly become scared of these things, they are because they have had some bad experiences with them in their past, that's what they've been taught, or they became scared simply because others around them were scared of them. Both fears happen through one, or a combination of these 3 ways that I listed. And finally, I would just like to thank you for being respectful, I was actually expecting somebody to comment back and tear me a new one :P

    • @EagleEyesx2
      @EagleEyesx2 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I know and I do feel bad about that, I cant help it though honestly. If I couldn't be scared of gay people hell I wouldn't be. Yeah I do understand, I don't know how or why it happens, it just does. I know you aren't and I thank you very much for that you've been an awesome person eh.

    • @ZetteSue
      @ZetteSue 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking that the statements they made were blanket statements. Which surprised me considering science in general considers more factors when conducting an experiement. I know people who are only homophobic because they don't understand the gay community that well and like anything you don't understand you are going to avoid or be cautious about. I didn't hear them make that argument at all. I have friends who are gay and bi and such but also have fairly homophobic friends. I don't think either group is truly represented properly in the video, not even scientifically.

    • @hanndmn9651

      *****
      Sometimes it is hard to understand someone else with a phobia. Their experiences might have been live threatening or just very scary causing them to have a newfound phobia. It may be very difficult to understand them, but before I judge anyone due to their fears, I would put myself in their shoes to be less rude and more understanding. If you have judgement of someone, you gotta learn how to be on their side a little even though you feel not right about it. eventually, You might even start to compensate with him

    • @Ticey1201
      @Ticey1201 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Not only is the study untrue because of that, there is no scientific evidence. Watching a car crash is the same thing. If something takes your attention away from something normal you look at it more. And when asked if someone is straight or gay how do you know that it's not because someone doesn't want to be seen in a negative connotation so badly that they answer more quickly. I'm not necessarily saying that this isn't true with everyone that has done the study is hiding gayness but that doesn't mean that everyone in this study that "failed" it were gay.

    I myself try to express my opinion sometimes, when an opportunity arises and I feel like I shouldn't keep it bottled up inside. And then, an avalanche of hate falls over me, leaving me questioning myself if everyone has gone mad. I'm so frustrated of how things have become recently. In the past it had been prohibited, punishable and treated, as a disease should be. Nowadays they praise it like some kind of Nobel Prize worthy achievement.
    I spit on everyone who supports it!

    As I straight person, I can honestly say that "being straight" was not "a choice" I made. My interest in and attraction to females was innate, instinctual and intense from the very first moments I became "sexually aware" onward. My theory (respectfully) is that individuals who vehemently claim that "it is a decision" or "you decided" to be gay... are making it crystal clear to the rest of us that they are in fact deeply closeted homosexuals themselves. You, sir, have my sincerest sympathies. =(

    No. Immorality always leads to other calamities.
    What Augustine noted was how success breeds comfort into a society, which in turn leads people to believe that only a select few need actually be virtuous in order to maintain the empire. Hence, the debauchery Rome would become legendary for in the wake of the fall of Carthage. Hence how, 400 years after Carthage's fall, Roman citizens did nothing to stop the advance of Barbarians they thought would undermine their civilization.

    Genes can and sometime do 2 things, for example the gene known as HbS is responsible for causing sickle cell disease and also prevents malaria. So people who have a tolerance to malaria in a high malaria area then they would procreate more and pass this gene on, in this environment that gene, even though it carries the sickle cell disease, is a beneficial trait.

    The more people use ad block the more sites will have to take more drastic measures compensate. Ads pay for the upkeep and improvement of the sites they're on, not to annoy people. without ads I see one of two possibilities
    A) All the pages become subscription based.
    B) Only web pages that have funding from other sources and have profit to gain from the web page (such as campaigns) get funded. This would effectively destroy the freedom of speech that the internet offers.

  • @MaxxTheMerciless
    @MaxxTheMerciless 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    All behavior is a choice, and no feeling is justification for anything you do. If you sit around moping because you feel bad, what you need to do is re-examine yourself, stop feeling bad, and do something else. Depression may have official clinical implications, but in truth I've not met one person diagnosed with depression who truly needed drugs to recover from it. What they needed was to do something else that doesn't foster that mood. Moods are not permanent. They are always transitory.

    Interesting video, scishow! It's so amusing to see such conflicting opinions clashing in an argument which neither will win. This is really interesting to observe how people interact. If they are different, they lash out. Of they are similar, but taught to hate a certain aspects of themselves, then they will lash out as well. I find it interesting that I was brought up in a homophobic home, but i do not think that gays are treated fairly. Either way, I want another vid!

    Protection and stability are the reasons love exist, if we put us back a few thousand years back, it would have been inconceivable for a woman to survive her 9 month pregnancy and the few years later taking care of a baby if she had to hunt her own food and construct her own shelter. That why we have this linking bond called love, it's only there cuz our gestation is so long and our baby are so fragile compared to others species.

    You'll note that I didn't ask you what the difference was between the four factors (I'll answer those statements anyway) but what is the difference between subscribing to other bigoted beliefs. While it is clear on cannot determine ones sex, race or ability, evidence indicates that sexuality also is beyond human control. Even the proponents of conversion therapy now view it as a condition/disease that one copes with daily like alcoholism. You don't become straight, you merely behave that way.

    No, EPIC is right - alcoholism typically doesn't change. A person who was once an alcoholic has to battle every day not to drink because he/she knows that just one drink will be the end for him/her. (One of the principle characteristics of alcoholism is that they CAN'T stop at one drink.) There are a multitude of both personal and scientific accounts on this particular subject.

  • @MaxxTheMerciless

    The correct viewpoint on this discussion happens to be mine. If you are validating your emotions by feeling bad for some reason, that's your problem, and you need to deal with it.
    All sexual behavior is a choice, it's just that so many are doing everything they can to avoid shame, stigma, whatever in order to feel better about themselves, rather than address their feelings like Humans and not give into everything just because they feel this way or that. Because that's what animals do.

    When viewed from an evolutionary standpoint, you're right. But think of it this way: What is the purpose of love? The answer is to encourage people to settle down and mate. But nowadays we don't always fall in love for procreation. We fall in love because we want to be around that person, despite whether or not we have children or even sex. If you fall in love just to pass on your genetic material, then you need to get with the times.

    According to the The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it is. You can disagree all you want, but it's generally considered a human right. And no it has not always had a specific definition. Sometimes it's included one man and woman, other times it's been one man and a ten women. Sometime's it's been for religion, other times for politics. There are even examples of gay marriage in history. It has a different meaning for different cultures, and continues to evolve as we do.

    Such exceptions would be the fact that
    A) Sexual attraction does not dictate romantic attraction.
    B) Romantic attraction does not always follow the same principles as sexual attraction.
    This allows for further deviations, such as a homoromantic pansexual who can be attracted to any gender but flat-out prefers their gender equivalent for emotional/romantic endeavours.
    While this is a rarity - as most people have romantic interests matching their sexual ones - it stills occurs.
