The Mego Spider-Man was really cool. It was one of the first superhero toys I had as a little kid.

Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends and The Electric Company were my main introductions to the character. I started getting into the comics in the late 80s, during the black suit days just before the creation of Venom.
Spider-Man 2 is not only the best Spider-Man movie, it’s probably still the best superhero movie of all time.

I had the Webshooter. It was a wrist device with a suction dart attached to it by a string. You press a button located on your palm like Spider-Man does and the suction dart shoots out. The string would break after frequent use and the dart would fly off to who knows where because you were only allowed to play with it outside in the 70s.

Sadly there wasn't a palm button as I remember the button was on the device itself with a spidey symbol on the button.

I had the web shooter. It's basically just a suction cup dart shooter with the red bit to suggest a "web". I think the dart might have been on a string (i.e. a web line.)
Simple but I thought it was pretty neat as a kid.

Maybe the best thing of the 70’s live action Spidey show, and the 6o’s cartoon,(although it’s more of 70’s cartoon cause it was on everyday)was the awesomely funky soundtracks they both had

I had Spider-Man energized. Cousins had that chopper for him. I really wanted that (although if I were older than three, I would maybe have questioned why Spider-Man needed a helicopter). I think there art work that is a yellow background with spidey on a web and all splayed out facing you, it was ubiquitous in the 70’s early 80’s. That really had me intrigued by spider man. I had that motorcycle too. Played with my corgi bat mobile which had miniature Batman and robin that came out of the seats as well. I remember being at a swimming hole when I kid cliff jumped down and missed and hit his head, my dad grabbed some of our clothes to help wrap his head while everyone was deciding how to get him closer to shore so the Fireman and ambulance could come get him (my mind says it was fifty feet tall, but I bet it was no more than thirty, the drop from waterfalls that is). Anyway, my shirt was taken and it was my favorite Spider-Man tank top with art work I described above on it. It came back bloody and I threw it out. My mother said she could get the stain out but I did not like the memory of that kid’s scream when he realized he missed his mark. That also did me in for heights for pretty much ever. Spider-Man and his amazing friends was an awesome show, who didn’t have the hots for Firestar????

Phew! I had a lotta these! I will never forget the disappointment though, when I got the Spider-man Webmaker. I honestly totally thought I'd be swinging around the neighbourhood when we got home. The web fluid was like less sticky model glue for for tiny yellow plastic figures. Serious mess and broke my heart. Now the webshooters were awesome, but the best was my Spidey Mego! Still have him (although the costume is the only thing holdin' the poor bugger together) he was MY sidekick! Took 'em everywhere!! Great show, Junk! It's always better when you keep your outrage in check ;)

That other web thing with the bottle of goop was so lame. All it was was like glue that you stuck to the wall, pull it so it was string thin, then slide a little plastic spiderman along it. No shooting, just squeezing the little bottle, sticking it to a wall and stretching it out into a thin line. I have no clue what that really was. Spider Snot I called it.

I have many Spider-man toys, some of which are in your video. Back in the late 1970s I received the 12" Mego Spider-man and the Corgi Spider Copter. I remember getting the Spider-man Drawing Machine for Christmas in 1979. But the Spider-man toys I've had the longest are the Mego 8" figure (type 1) and the Super Savers coin bank. I still have them all. In recent years I've bought all of the Remco Energized and Powerized Super Heroes. I have the Buddy L Spider-man on a motorcycle, the Ben Cooper Halloween costume, and jiggler figure. I somehow found the very rare Japanese 9" Spider-man (incomplete) by Popy. That's only some of my collection.
I enjoyed the old Spider-man TV show too, as well as his appearances on The Electric Company. I also remember the 1980's Spider-man cartoons, like Spider-man and his Amazing Friends. I enjoy Spider-woman too. I have the DVD of the cartoon series (as well as a bunch of other Spider-woman stuff). Spider-man appears in two episodes of the show.

I still have my Mego Spider-Man from 1978(?). I had to rebuild the knees with aluminum posts and screws about 30 years ago, but he's still as flexible as ever. One of my all time favorites, especially after Toyfare made him infamous.... 😁😂

  • @roryotoole3279

I had the webshooter back then! It was a suction cup dart that fired from your wrist (it's under that triangular red webby thing) and had string tied to the end of it. It was pretty lame but I still have pieces of it somewhere. I think I broke the dart at some point pretty quickly. I even still have that little part with Spider-man's face on it too.
At about 7 or 8 I remember seeing some characters in a show at a mall in Virginia and noticing long hair sticking out of the back of Spider-man's mask and realizing from their build it was probably a woman playing him.
Always wanted but never got the Mego figure.
I remember when we used to watch The Electric Company in school and everyone would get excited when Spider man came on. I always liked that song they used to do and it's on TH-cam from a record in long form here's a link.

@That Junkman During the 1970s we first had ''Danny Seagren'' play Spiderman on (The Electric Company from 1974-1977). After that, ''Nicholas Hammond'' played the wall crawler in (The Amazing Spider-Man television series) from 1977. However, few people know that in 1978 ''Shinji Tōdō'' played Spiderman on the Japanese TV series (スパイダーマン, Hepburn: Supaidāman). AKA ''Japanese Spider-Man''. Which was a live-action ''Tokusatsu'' television series produced by the Toei Company. Loosely based on the legendary Marvel Comics character. Via a contract that was negotiated by producer Gene Pelc.

Spiderman web shooters have been everywhere for years. I remember having them as a kid based on the sam rami movies, the toys themselves were basically wrist gear that held a can of sily string with the nozzle moved so the string would shoot out like a can of easy cheese. man those were some fun toys xD

  • @daved5652

My friend had the spiderman on the motorcycle. If I remember right, I think it would do different tricks or stunts. I can remember the spiderman figure. I don't recall if we had it, but I do remember playing with that as a kid. I think it was one of those oddball toys my grandma got at a yard sale for us to play with while we were at her house. What I remember most was a Spiderman car that my brother and I each had. It was about the size of a hot wheel car, but I don't think it was made by hot wheels. The best way I can describe it was that it looked kinda like a batmobile, but was for Spiderman. I remember mine was in pretty good condition as my brother seemed to be a bit rougher with his toys, and then tried saying that mine was his because mine was nicer. It was because of these fights as kids, that mom and dad ended up marking our toys, and somehow, mine always seemed to be the mine that got marked. I think I could've gotten that decision overturned if I had johnny Cochrane as an attorney.

  • @Bonedadyo

I had that web shooter…and I wish I had it now! Those things are going for big bucks when the do come up. It was a dart gun that you wore on your wrist. There was a string attached to the suction dart and the shooter to act as the “web”. The thing that you thought looked like a balloon is just a piece of plastic that was on the dart - and it didn’t last long! It was a great toy.
I had, and still have, my Mego Spidey and Green Goblin. I’ve kept them in great shape all these years. I was a Spidey freak and remember waiting for every issue, experiencing the death of Gwen Stacey as it happened. Good times. I also had the web maker, but mine came with little white plastic figures. That sucked and the stuff was like old model glue in the tube! The dart version was much better.
There was also a Spidey glove that worked as a squirt gun that I always wanted in the Heroes World catalog. It was like a dishwashing glove that had a little pocket in the palm you filled with water. You did your two fingers like him to make it squirt.

That was the bright spot of the afternoon, seeing Spidey on The Electric Company. The only Spider-Man toy I remember having was a 3 3/4" figure (I had a Hulk one too). They were articulated like the G.I. Joe figures. Can't remember who put those figures out. I loved both companies, but I did gravitate more towards DC, just because they had Batman.

  • @arthurcummings3679

I also used to have a Spider-man on a motorcycle (different from the one you showed) but I just liked playing with the Spider-man figure and he was kind of in a wall crawling pose pose. One time when I was playing with it at the commissary I was outside and I we kept throwing it up in the air and would then find it in the grass. One time when I threw it up I couldn't find it after that. It was either somewhere in the grass or on the roof but then we had to leave and I was really sad.

Could be late ‘74 or early ‘75, but me and and my neighbor had these blue “web shooters”. They fit on your wrist and shot, I believe, a small suction cup dart along with a small white string. You had an image there of something about shooting your own web… not sure if that was it or not. Best I can recall, mine seemed to be more like a bracelet with a trigger box on the bottom side of your wrist.

I had that web shooter. I remember my mom was sitting in her chair in the living room, on Christmas day, and I shot it at her from across the room. It went right at her face and then the string stopped it short, just an inch from her face, making her jerk her head back in surprise. My brother was like "Wow, did you measure the room or something?" I played it off like I knew what I was doing, but in reality, it shot way farther than I expected, and I lucked out when it stopped right before it hit her.

If you've ever seen a Spider-Man movie, YOU NEED TO GO SEE THE NEW ONE! NOW! DON'T READ THIS! GO SEE THE MOVIE!
That out of the way, even as a kid, I thought the Spider-Man tv show was super boring. I much preferred the Electric Company version. Because you got way more Spider-Man on it! The tv show was 90% Peter Parker sneaking around or having drama and 10% Spidey action. Usually getting beat up by some Ham And Egger he should easily beat.
The Mego action figure was my favorite 70's Spider-Man toy! The Electronic one was probably my least favorite. He couldn't bend his arms....Just climb a web and shine a light through a film strip. And that's when he's attached to his over-priced Spidey Copter! The Rom Electronic figure was way cooler! At least he could move his arms and legs and make electronic noises based on a button combination.
