  • 1 of 8. Plenitude of Time. The Greco-Roman world. Roman Empire. Octavius Augustus. "The true God, the God who revealed Himself to the people of Israel, chose the Greco-Roman world, with its culture and its laws, to reveal Himself gradually until the coming of 'The Plenitude of Time'. (Gal 4.4) It was these 'Semina Verbi' - these 'Seeds of the Word' in the words of St. Justin, Martyr, that the Apostles, and especially St. Paul, used to preach from the truths spread throughout the centuries among the pagan peoples.
I'm thankful to the Series "History of the Church" given by Fr. Javier Olivera Ravassi, an Argentinian traditional Catholic priest. Thank you, Father, for a magnificent series. Link to Lecture 1 (in Soanish)

The three wise men who came to pay tribute to the Christ child is further evidence that God’s providence was at work with peoples other than the people of Israel.
When we consider polytheism, it may be the case that individual monotheistic peoples retained their own God when coming together with other monotheistics. As urbanisation occurred, political and social accommodations could have resulted in a polytheistic society which began or which remained at its essence monotheistic.
The revelations in the video are fascinating and illuminating. Further pieces in the jigsaw of human history which are not necessary for our Catholic Faith but which nevertheless enrich our understanding. Excellent video, 10/10.

Did we lose beauty and so lose our sense of the divine or did we lose the divine and so our sense of beauty vanished with it. The second question makes a lot more sense.

I have never, ever heard any of us refer to ourselves as "the chosen people". In fact, Shalom Aleichem's "Tevya" the milk man asks, "G-d, can you maybe choose someone else, some time?" That said, it begs the question: "chosen" for what? The answer is: to redeem all of mankind, to bring all people made in the same of image of the Creator back to the blissful sate before the "the fall" in the garden. Which begs the question: Okay. How? By doing the mitzvoth, as many of the 613 as it takes. That's what "halacha" (the path) is, and the Talmud are, an instruction manual.
