First meet Vince Gill at the Long Branch Saloon in OKC back in 1978. Sure a great musician but who would have thought he is gonna have a shelf full of Grammy’s someday. Congratulations Vince, you have worked your tail off.

My brother stopped by my place one day & we decided to go up to a local cafe for lunch. We sit down in our booth & guess who I'm sittin back to back with...The Gilster himself. All the waitresses were out of control...lol. This was in Vince's hay day...Mid 90's. I said Hey Vince, love the music, enjoy your lunch...That was it. Nice fella.

I was just sitting here thinking I would love to read a book by Vince about his career, from Pure Prairie League to the Eagles, with a little Amy Grant thrown in. The country music stories he could tell, as this series shows.

I had a small recording studio in Redondo Beach, CA 1975-1980, BrotherStudio. (Not to be confused with The Beach Boys Santa Monica studio Brothers Studio). Vince played locally and came in a time or two to add guitar and mandolin on a friend of mine’s tracks. You could tell then he was destined for greatness.

The Country Gentleman. I mixed PPL at the end of Vinny's time. I was on the road a lot when he broke in early 90s.. got to see it happen... and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Never will hear anyone say an unkind work about him, pure class. I look forward to every one of your music history classes Joe, thank you.

A living legend and as humble as can be. I met Vince in Nashville a few years ago, spoke to me like we had known each other for years. We talked about one of his earlier 60s 335s and some of the other gear he was using. We were like kids in a candy store lol.
An unforgettable moment in my life. Looking forward to more on your chanel.

The sweetest tenor voice I've ever heard! And such a fantastic picker, too! I saw PPL in 1976 in CLE. They were one of the opening acts, along with Poco, for Stills/Young Band. Whenever I hear Amie, I think if that night. I thought Vince was on stage, but now I wonder.? Hmm ..

Vince Gill is so authentic he is the personification of the original humble country/bluegrass/sideman/session player/rock star
In the other segment when he talks about getting in a band with better musicians because it makes him work hard and hopefully some of if will rub off on him (paraphrased)
Thats what i just did , i joined a band that “was out of my league” because they asked me too help finish an album ( the drummer quit)
I was terrified when i heard some of the songs they wanted me to cut , but i stepped up mg game i opened my mind , did my job played the sides and i got the gig , as it turns out the sessions were an audition to be the new drummer in the new rhythm section
    Vince Gill is an inspiration
Thanks again Joe for the best show on music and musicians anywhere

Thanks for another great one, Joe. It's so great having a musician interview a musician... "what year 335" - that's the stuff I want to know! The thing about Vince that makes him so unique is his universal talent... When guys from Chet Atkins to Eric Clapton to Knopfler to the Eagles admire and respect you.. well you're something. And he's still doing it. He's really kind of become the new Chet Atkins, as "the guy" in Nashville that everybody likes, looks to and respects. I wish I could tell him my own "first time I heard you" story..... I think he'd get a kick out of it, it's too "blue" to tell on here ;)

Hi Nitro.... well Vince might read these comments so you never know...:) you know one of my other lives in music was owning a small chain of music stores in between writing songs and founding the museum. I did a lot of vintage guitars and shows all over the south east to Dallas. I still love vintage guitars... still want to find a beat up 57 heavily V’ed neck light as a feather strat. Just something about a well worn 57 V neck strat that makes me want to play. Even though I’ve closed the stores years ago I still might have to buy some cool vintage guitars this time to keep for me. Functionable art... that’s the best definition of cool guitars I’ve ever heard:) best... Joe

Great interview as always and Vince is what we players all strive for. My compliments to you Joe for sticking with the Musician’s Hall of Fame and now keeping the stories alive through the interviews. I went through the MHOF a couple of times. Once I think in 2004 and you walked through most of it with me - like a private tour. I learned so much. Thanks for that. By the way - I became a Patreon sponsor today. I encourage all of you watchers out there to think about doing the same. I know times are hard out there for the music world. For those of us who are players and have steady day jobs (or had one if retired), if you can afford $10/month to help - do it. I watch every interview when they pop up. This is the real stuff - no BS. Thanks again Joe. We are the lucky ones. Brent

    • @MusiciansHallofFameMuseum
      @MusiciansHallofFameMuseum  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Brent... thank you very much for the very kind comments and the donations... truly appreciated.... ok... I’m trying to think what year you walked through the museum with me???? Couldn’t have been 2004 because it was under renovation from late 2003 until June 2006 when we opened... I sincerely hope you’ve visited in the last 6 years at the new location. The city you know made me sell them the first museum building ( for half replacement cost) in 2010 to build the new convention center. They stopped me from adding anything new about a year and a half after we opened because they were making us move but it took them two and a half more years to get the money together so we just sat there waiting..... couldn’t keep improving anything so I really hope you have been to the new location. Let me know when you’re coming back so I can take care of your family... Best.... Joe

Another excellent interview Joe, and I would just Love to see you interview Patty Loveless as I have always been in love with her and Vince and her together sends me into the Stratosphere with emotion and she also came up the hard way and with perseverance and style that took me clean back to Kitty Wells and Wanda Jackson when I was a kid and later Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn in the late 60's. I was so proud of Patty at the funeral of George Jones singing with Vince who just couldn't help from breaking down and she was so caring of "Sweet Pea" and helped him finish the great tribute they sang. I guess you know that Patty called George one time way back and asked if it would be OK if she sang his song="If my heart had windows" and he said "Darlin' you can sing anything you want" and wasn't that just like George and she knocked it out of the park. I thank you for all these great memories of a time when Country Music ruled the roost and we had so many Real Musicians like yourself giving us so much entertainment and as George said="Who's gonna fill their shoes??"

Gosh, Joe, this is priceless musical history on display here, and every old band photo is worth a thousand words. Like many fans around the country I discovered Vince Gill when he performed with Pure Prairie League on all those TV talk shows he mentioned. I'm old enough to remember when host Mike Douglas had The Rolling Stones on for the first time, so Vince was following the path taken by most of our music legends. Nice of him to mention "Amie" singer Craig Fuller who went on to do some very fine work with the band Little Feat.

My first guitar electric was a Teisco strat style. It actually played great The electronics were junk but the neck was nice. Beat the crap out of that acoustic i had beat my fingers up on for two years.

How about titles being Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3. It’s hell searching for them.

Hi Terry.... thanks for watching... there is a couple of interviews I’ve done. One was with NAMM and the other was with “The Sessions”. There’s also a Q&A show we did on our channel when the Corona shut down just started that I answer those questions... there’s 5 parts ... I think that question came up in part one or two. The other two interviews are on our website too . Thanks again for supporting us... best, Joe

i have a pretty good tune that I'd like to get to Vince. He can have it for his next project (just spell my name correctly on the credits.) It's a guitar player song, perfect for him. I actually wrote the tune for Brad Paisley, but Vince could SELL it far better. The problem is that I'm down here on the mud flats o' Corpus Christi, TX. I can't afford a trip to Nashville at this time.

Hi Freddy.... thanks for watching.... yes it’s a bitch getting songs heard anymore. You’ve got to be here everyday to have a chance to compete and then it’s still almost impossible, Don’t give up if you believe in it. Send it everywhere you can ... you’ll never know if you don’t try..... best, Joe
