In moments of loss and grief, we can turn heavenward and find what 18th-century hymnist Charles Wesley called “love divine, all loves excelling.” God’s love is “pure, unbounded love,” and He grants it not because we are strong but because we need strength-not because we are good but because He is good.

This has brought tears of gratitude to my eyes. Knowing families can be together forever helps sooth my aching heart for my beloved; together in Christ.

This has always been a favorite of mine. Pairing it with the grief at parting is such a wonderful way to realize the power of the text. The progression from 2:40 to the introduction of Christ at 3:00 is perfect. "O death where is thy sting, o grave, where is thy victory?"

Beautifully performed! This song is one of my favorites and one of my first introductions years ago to Mack Wilberg's stirring arrangements of so many classic hymns. I was disappointed that it seems the second verse has been left out. I love the sincerity of the pleading to "take away the love of sinning" (in the second verse) that is the desire of every true disciple. However, it is still an incredibly inspiring and moving hymn with a beautiful message. I imagine the last verse's description of "cast[ing] our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise" to likely be how we will respond when that day finally comes when we meet our Savior and Heavenly Father face to face. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece!
