FYI - a note from XPEL:
Why did we as XPEL correct the paint, did you find a little mark/blemish on the paint before we could do the install? - Our coating process, even with it being a brand-new vehicle, is to do a light polish to remove any light swirls or surface debris. If the vehicle is 2-years or older then at the time we do a stage 1 paint correction for scratches or blemishes.
I did an 8 year ceramic coating on my 22 lightning the day after i bought it. I park outside. It didn't last a full year. I now just use the turtlewax hybrid ceramic wax a couple times a year and it works very well. Wash it and use a good leaf blower, it's dry.
which ceramic coating did you use?
Like all your other trucks, the next couple of owners will likely thank you for the mods
Totally worth it. I do all my vehicles with ppf. Keep the RHO videos coming.
PPF my whole truck (2024 Mega Cab Ram 4x4 on 40-inch tires) with the 10 MM thickness that is supposed to be self-healing PPF for 8,000 dollars.
$500 for wash, clay bar, and polish. Truck had a few blemishes on her from helping during Hurrican Relief efforts in North Carolina.
I got my 2024 limited tundra 4x4 hood front facia and side mirrors all PPF and it works very well against scratches and flying debris when hitting the front of the truck . My truck lives in the dirt off roading so every bit helps Todays factory paint jobs are not good as they were say 20 years ago
I’ve done both. I love the ceramic coating especially if you live in a hard water area and use car washes often (especially in the winter) I did a 3yr ceramic for $600. I also did Xpel on the front of my Ram. I did just the bumper and area below headlights. I love that stuff! Bugs wipe right off and as saved a few rock chips I’m sure. I’ll do both again. Money well spent considering to repaint a painted bumper is about 2K now.
I did PPF on complete front and full length rockers, door pockets and mirrors on my F150 Lariat. I did ceramic coating on any exposed paint. I did all the work / installation myself. There was a learning curve for sure on the PPF (biggest take away is your truck must be operating room clean). In total I am into it for about $700. Very happy with how it turned out and the performance of both products. Another thing I made sure of is the truck was not washed at the dealership (avoids swirl marks) B4 pick up so buffing / paint prep was minimal.
I did the front end like you and door cups and xpel ceramic coating. They have booster coating spray that helps keep it slick by applying it every couple of months will extend the life of it. I do mine every couple of months. I have no chips and my truck is a little over 2 years old. It was worth it and having 2 friends that own a shop that provides this service helped me and my wallet.
Good luck with your RHO those twin turbo hurricanes are having quite a few issues from what I’ve been reading. I really like the looks of the truck!
Definitely do the ppf on front , ceramic coating I do myself
I like the PPF in the zones prone to rock chips and such. I don't think I'd pay someone to do ceramic coat, but I might try a DIY version. A good wax every few months works well also.
I purchased my 2020 RAM REBEL in October of 2019, and the Dealer applied a CERAMIC product to the truck at that time. The truck still looks new, and there are no swirls in the paint, and It doesn't even have any rock chips anywhere! I take it through a car wash at least twice a Month, and the ruck shines like a new truck! The dealer charged my $800 for it!
have a microfiber and detail spray handy when you need to wipe something off your paint. Using your fingers will scratch the coating. Nice video
My question is would you have done it if you would have to pay for it out of your pocket? I’d do it if I was sponsored but with my own money answer is “No”. Great video!
You should definitely get the bedsides covered with PPF as well. People don't realize how peppered the gas tank area will get due to the widebody. Truck looks good.
Paint on the newer rams are very thin, chip easily. So, I’d say at least the PPF is worth it. My 2022 Ram 3500 has new paint chips on the front end every time I drive it. My 2018 did not have this problem.
Front film on my 2022 GMC just on the front and about 6 inches on the hood and fenders runs about $1000. I do my own ceramic coating and can buy the best products for $100 to $200. Get some Griots AOI ceramic for about $20 and do it every 6 to 9 months yourself and get the benefits of ceramic much cheaper. I would do PPF on at least the front of any truck just to prevent rock chips which it has proven to be very good at.
I second this! I’ve done it all and have started settling on griots AIO as it’s just easier to apply every few months vs the paint correction and prep work to put on a nicer product.
PPF good idea where stone chips will happen, but on white paint not sure its worth it for all of $6k
I don't put a lot of stock in the 'warranty' aspect of these products. It's an invisible chemical that binds to vehicle paint on a molecular level. How do you determine warranty failure? How do you prove it? How do you compel the manufacturer to make restitution against your damage claim? Do you say, "look, the water doesn't bead like it used to." Good luck with that.
What I can say is that I've used Xpel ceramic coating (not PPF) on the last four of my family's vehicles. It's real and it works. It is not a gimmick; it's genuine and effective technology. It's not a dramatic or obvious difference, it's subtle. You see it over the big timeline. It stops slow-acting contaminants. If you compared two identical, outdoor vehicles over a few years - one with Xpel ceramic coating and the other with just wax and detailing...you would see a very real difference.
The paint protection film (ppf) is STUPID expensive but having an authorized Xpel detail shop do 3-year warranty ceramic coating is a FRACTION of the cost and is an effective and real investment in the vehicle. You apply the ceramic boost once or twice a month with detailing and it sustains and works. Highly recommended for anyone that plans to KEEP their vehicle for several years. PPF is for people that have money to piss away. It's not necessary; ceramic does same job for a fraction of the cost.
I agree with you except ceramic won’t protect you against rock chips and ppf will. Personally I dislike ppf.
I think its well worth the cost if you plan on reselling the truck in the next year. We all know paint is think and any protection to it is worth the cost
That’s interesting process. I’d think you would go with some cool color options if you’re going to spend that much money.
I can't hear what your saying during the wash and coats and stuff
Right, I thought it was just me.
I didn’t say anything amazing.
I guess we just like to hear your voice.
I got ceramic coating off of Amazon for $40. $6000. I can have it spot painted for that $$..
Great video! I just think it’s way to expensive honestly how long did it take for the to do it? To charge over $6,000 dollars I think it’s overprice
what thickness is the PPF?
Ppf the high impact area and ceramic coat the rest. The price is a little steep especially for the coating. Been doing polishing and ceramic coatings for a half dozen years or so , it is not for everyone, it makes washing a lot easier. The dirt doesn’t bond as well so washing does not marr the paint keeping it shinier long, that being said you will probably only get 1-2 years out of the coating
Great video except for background music. It sucks
Looks like they’re using Koch Chemie product. It’s very good stuff.
I want to ppf mine when it comes in.
Did those big guys both really stand on your door sill when washing the top of your truck?
Are they worth it? They are if you wanna pay for it but it's also like asking the question are $3000 wheels worth it absolutely not but they are if you wanna pay for it. If you have the money, then you wanna pay for something then it's gotta be worth it somehow but on the surface, is it worth it? No, absolutely not in any way shape or form but it's a personal choice.
Awesome truck. Not sure if I heard that price correctly though. The new Ram really stands out. The amount of hate from the trolls on all of these channels shows they are jealous.
Be careful when you pressure wash it you can lift it if you blast a corner like a ninety degree edge.I got lucky and just trimmed a little off to stop it from peeling any more.
I thought the PPF was supposed to to go on before ceramic coating.
After watching the end monologue of the video I think the ceramic was from the doors back and the PPF was on the front. If that is what they did I have to ask did they go back and put ceramic over the PPF on the front?
Kill the detail audio. Can’t hear your commentary. Music’s a little hot too. 🤷🏼♂️
That job would drive me nuts.
My current truck is 10yo. If you keep it 8+ years, I’d do this all day. Wife has it on her car. She “bumped” another car ahead of her. Peeled off the Xpel and it’s good as new.
I didn’t really say anything.
That’s not the ceramic coating that’s the buffing. A.k.a. paint correction. They tape it off so it doesn’t go on the plastic.
Dammit.
How do you know that?
That video never shows the ceramic coating process. The process with the small buffer was just applying rubbing compound to remove surface debris and tiny scratches.
When you say ceramic on the back, do you mean from the front door back? PPF front to front doors, then ceramic front doors to tailgate?
The cost of doing PPF and Ceramic coating is about $6K range if you did the whole truck in one or the other? Why did you do 1/2 of one and 1/2 of the other product? Which is better for rock chips etc. I assume PPF? My SUV is a 2008 sequoia with 225K miles on it so it only gets washed when it rains. Ordering a new Tahoe Z71 with diesel as soon as the order books open …. So curious about protection….. maybe just do my own Adam products?!?! I really can’t see paying $6K for a large SUV.😊
Just get PPF instead and wax the truck yourself every so often
It's a good-looking truck, Tim! The PPF is a good investment. Not sure about the Ceramic coating... But I'm sure you'll update us on how that performs.
I know the trucks expensive but still it’s a truck. That’s a lot of money you could’ve probably invested that into a nice set up golf clubs. I guarantee when you go to trade it back in. They won’t even care they just run the numbers. Yeah just take a quick look at it and say yeah looks good to me.
@@davebasey9863 oh yeah a dealer won’t care. A private seller might feel differently.
Why would you do this if you are not keeping the truck long?
You wanted me to say no to a free install?
Sorry Tim, I really think you should not have wrapped that truck. Other than that thanks for sharing it with us.
Why?
Griots 3 in one spray wax every six months. Easy to apply and works great. I think one bottle cost $25.
Sharp truck
We coated our boat. It was an absolute waste of money. Now it could have been because of my expectations that were give to me by the group that sold me on it. I thought it would help make wiping the boat down easier and would last longer than wax. Neither of those were true. I was told my an employee that if we were wiping our boat down after every use the coating wouldn’t last much more then 3-4 wipe downs…..
I guess what you need to answer is would you actually pull that kind of money out of your pocket. I wouldn’t. Personally I don’t like the ppf, I found when I had it the leading edges got dirty that couldn’t be removed and also found it more difficult to clean off bug guts. Product now is probably better. I did do my own ceramic coating, I do think that helps with washing your vehicle.
It certainly looks good and if I got it for free then hell yes. Otherwise I don’t know - these days you pay $65-$90K or more for a truck or suv and then have to pay another $6K or more for this stuff? Im not sure. If I did, then I would have to park 10 miles away at the end of the parking lot all by itself so as not to get dings ….. so now its parked in total isolation and Im gonna have to hire a guard. Its getting expensive Tim - LOL.
@@kaivonmortazavi8656 do you provide health care for the guard? I might be looking for a job!
I don't want the prettiest and most expensive truck at home depot...
Unless the packages came with a free reapplication after accident damage, deer strike, repairs, etc., I wouldn’t waste the money.
I personally don't think it's worth it unless maybe for a lease vehicle you want to keep protected for that sake. Otherwise just wash your vehicle regularly, park in the garage when possible or shade and don't treat the paint like shit cause it's more fragile than most realize.
Audio really sucks
I'm sure some would do it, but I personally don't think it's worth it because most people don't keep there truck 20 years and if I already paid $70,000 plus another $6000 just for paint protection, nope I will wax it I don't mind.👍😃
You just got this thing ceramic coated and you took it thru a car wash? That’s a big no no. They were polishing in the video when you said they were ceramic coating. You need to avoid automatic and regular car washes due to the soaps they use. It will destroy your ceramic coating quick.
Nothing in their care instructions said to avoid car washes. It is also 15 degrees outside. I'm not washing my truck outside in those temperatures.
@ your not even supposed to wash a freshly ceramic coated vehicle for a week to 2 weeks depending on the coating. Every once in awhile going thru a car wash won’t hurt but it’s not a good idea. Especially not drying the vehicle all the way. Unless they are using deionized water you have a good chance of hard water spots on that coating.
@ I was told to wait 10 days and I waited an additional day beyond that.
I expect your bedsides (just infront of the rear tires) will get rock chips were you needed the PPF the most. New Tacoma's are seeing this if used on dirt roads.
Your not driving it enough ! But that may be a good thing !
Ceramic coating is a total waste of money. The ppf would be good
I don't know if it is a total waste of money.
@Pickuptrucktalk How much does the ceramic coating cost?
@ it’s in the video that apparently you didn’t watch. 😁
It’s not a waste.. depends on the owner. I normally PPF impact areas and either DIY cermaic ( takes about 2 days of work, prep) or pay someone. It makes maintenance washes so easy as a daily driver.
@@Pickuptrucktalk Tim it is a total waist of money! I used to ceramic coat all my new trucks along with having a spray in bed liner installed hoping the truck would maintain a higher resale value when trading. That never materialized! None of what you did to the truck will be returned to you on trade in as far as value, good thing you did not pay for it. I would bet money that if you did have to pony up the money for this job you would have passed. Be honest, would you really pay $6000 for these products out of your own pocket?
They're using way too high pressure water imo.
Why you trade in too much
Also tell Dan K I said hi
Tax write-off
You would have told XPEL no to a free install?
@@PickuptrucktalkHe was asking why you trade so often
@ gotcha. Easy. It’s how the business works. I need the tax write offs and the newest truck for views. After a year with this one, the views drop significantly and it costs me thousands in taxes. Much better to trade it on something new.
Junk is junk😊
Poor guy. Things will get better. If you need help the Bible is available 24/7
You must be looking in your driveway.
I think with the problems this engine is having more important to spend that money on a real good extended warranty!
What problems? I'm on all the forums and watch a lot of TH-cam.
In the jeeps that have already had that engine for awhile plastic thermostat housing and head gaskets and 4 cylinder version has had problems too! It’s Stelantis so you know it will have problems!
@ I’ve only heard of a few here or there. Nothing major like a big engine recall.
