My Mother is 83 years old and wears a gold/Diamond Engagement ring since she was 17 years and it looks Stunning!!
Quality gems stand the test of time! Love to hear that!
I use makeup brush to scrub my diamond ring 😊
Does these same methods apply to a diamond ring with a real pearl on it?
Hi there! Somewhat.
For your ring I would say mix mild dish soap in warm water. Gently brush gold and diamond with a soft toothbrush. Wipe pearl with a damp microfiber cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Skip pearl soaking and avoid harsh chemicals. Store in a pouch. Enjoy its sparkle!
When u have a ring on your finger at the moment. Let’s say u use hand sanitizer wipe to clean your hands before u eat. Will the hand sanitizer wipe damage the rings?
Over time any type of cleaning supply will cause the rhodium on the ring to break down, Cleaning supplies are things like hand sanitizer, chlorine from a pool, etc... IF this occurs you can always have the rhodium reapplied to the ring. Hopefully that answers your question.
@@faithfulplatformrings , yeah, I kind of do understand it.
@@faithfulplatformrings , so eventually real gold jewelries gets old or worn out?
@@untitle161 , let me try to explain it this way. Gold jewelry can easily be polished and cleaned to be brought back to its originally look. The problem is with the outer layer of rhodium that can break down. The rhodium is there to protect the persons skin from the nickel that is used with gold jewelry. Some people have a severe nickel allergy that can cause their skin to be irritated or turn green. To keep this from happening jewelers will use rhodium to create that barrier between the skin and the ring. When your ring comes in contact with chemicals like hand sanitizers or chlorine the rhodium will break down over time and your finger could become irritated or turn green.
are you saying that all gold jewelry is coated with rhodium ?@@faithfulplatformrings
Handsoap works too?!
Yes, if you're making this at-home solution, but jewelry cleaner is available pretty cheap on places like Amazon, which is better for long-term care.
lol I was about to say it cracks me up that they made a fully produced video to pretty much say “use dawn soap like you probably do on everything else!”And “the best way is to take it to a professional” haha.

I’ve always been told to use ammonia
That really depends on the metal used for your jewelry. For example, if you have a piece in white gold, you want to skip the ammonia! It can dull the rhodium plating, harm the metal, and even irritate your eyes. Stick to safer options like warm soapy water, jewelry cleaner, or a professional touch. These gentler methods will keep your diamond sparkling and your white gold glowing without any risks. Choose the method that suits your comfort level and enjoy your beautiful ring!
Is buffing necessary
We always recommend airing on the side of caution and scrubbing more gently. Soaking in warm water and a mild dish soap for a while will generally loosen all dirt to make the scrubbing easy.
How can harsh chemicals harm the diamond? Isn't it the hardest material?
You’re right! With chemicals we’re more concerned about the safety of the gold band and small metal prongs. Those are much more susceptible to breaking!
