  • My FT3D has a Wires-X button, but as I am not in range of any Wires-X repeaters, I decided to build a node, and do for for the least amount of money possible. I managed it for £40.57.
    After building the hotspot, I tested it on a GOTA chase (www.GOTA.org.uk).
    Thanks for watching,

    Have built a few. They are a fun little project. But can only connect to ysf rooms and not actual wires-x rooms. But still gets you into most rooms. It's a cheap way to let you talk around the world.

    Hi Ben, I really like your videos thank you, very accessible. I'm taking the Foundation exam next week, then booking the Intermediate ASAP as you suggested and can then try to get to grips with all this digital/Wires-X and maybe build one, I think I've all the parts bar the "hat" somewhere. I've just been listening in on my FT5D for a week or so since I got it, trying to figure out what is going on out there.

    Good video, this might already be mentioned but I did not see it. This is not true Wires-X but rather YSF (Yaesu System Fusion). There are a lot of really good YSF Rooms, I know because I have two of them. You will need an HRI-200 to host a Wires-X Room on Yaesu's system, and at least a PDN style radio to access all the true Wires-X rooms. Good video though, I have many Pi-Star hotspots and they work well.

    Good video Ben, I struggled to get it how I wanted on with YSF when I bought the FT-5DE last September. Now I can jump in and out of YSF and YSF2DMR, store commonly used talkgroups etc. without having to log onto Pi-Star. Fiddily but I've had 2 weeks of isolation to practice it. Then I made backups of everything.

    Nice job - get a used raspberry pi3b for £20 and it will boot alot quicker interestingly you dont have to change anything on the sd card also this allows easy conection to a Nextion screen -73

    Hi Ben. How would you go about setting this thing up to switch between two different WiFi SSID? I have one on order, this should be here slightly after the good folk at RSGB and OFCOM issue my Fundamentals license. Thanks for the inspiration.

    • @binonwheels
      @binonwheels 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Answered my own question, PI-Star allows setting up a list of WiFi SSID, if one is not available, it will go to the second one, and then the third one ... Handy, as I have a MiFi. M7CGL 73.

    The Banana Pi M2 Zero is an single board computer which measures only 65mm*30mm. Its external interfaces are the same as the Raspberry Pi Zero W, and it will fit almost all cases and accessories for the Zero W. It uses the quad-core Cortex A7 Allwinner H2+ processor, with 512MB RAM. It's ideal for light-weight systems and space-limited applications. Like other members of the Banana Pi family, it supports both Linux and Android operating systems.

    Doesn't that metal box rather spoil the Wi-Fi abilities of the Pi-Zero W?

      All the ones I have built, I made a cut out of the "Wireless symbol" and replaced with thin black plastic. That solved the connection problems with the Access Point downstairs. So yes, not the best design in the world but seems to work fine if you have an Access Point in the same room.

    Try the pi zero2 overclock it a bit and/or use a faster SD card from a legit uk supplier that card looked a bit knock off. i use the SanDisk Extreme cards in raspberrys and it makes difference using faster cards...

    Have Baofeng UV-5R. Have looked up local repeater and added them to channel 2 as per video. Heard nothing. I think my local repeater ( Blackburn, North West ) may not be suitable. It mentions DMR but, doesn't mention FM or analogue. Please help if you can whilst I still have a little hair left.

    • @RadioRevG5REV
      @RadioRevG5REV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is a DMR repeater, the UV5R will not be able to pick it up. You need an analogue FM repeater for it...

      @@RadioRevG5REV I think you may have just been more helpful than you can know. I can hear a conversation on my SDR and my Baufeng. I can hear both halves of the conversation so I am guessing that both parties are fairly near. I am wondering if they will be contactable through the web link on the page that you selected. I'll program in the Accrington repeater and, try to see if I can find these guys through the website. I may get lucky. I'll let you know how I get on.

      They told another operator that they were using BB3RF repeater in Accrington but, Sadly I can't find any information on this. They also mentioned the Allstar system. I'll be finding more information on that tomorrow. My eyes are on stalks and sleep is calling through a megaphone.
