How to Repair Door Lock - Broken Cylinder Guide Spindle - Mercedes (W202, C-Class)

- This video shows how to fix the problem when your Mercedes key turns in your door lock, but does not lock or unlock your car. A likely problem is the lock cylinder guide spindle / rod that connects your outside door lock and to the inner locking mechanism. The lock cylinder guide spindle engages the vacuum based locking system to lock / unlock your vehicle. As you will see in this video, one of the cylinder guide spindles ends broke off causing the key to just turn. The video is specific to the W202 chassis (C-Series 1994-1997, C220, C280, etc.), but a similar approach to the repair can be applied to other (older) Mercedes vehicles with mechanical locks.

Good deal ! Exact same lock spinal on my 1996 E320. I never would have found the screw to remove the lock behind the weather trim. Didn't come out as clean as yours but when done works perfect thanks! Mine look like a nail a the end of the spinal. The piece was broken off at the end where it goes into the lock mechanism in the door

Thank you very much I was able to fix multiple issues with this car because of this video!! The pin had fallen out and the shaft was just laying behind the cylinder. The immobilizer couldn't see the door lock being actuated so the car was in theft mode causing the injectors not to be commanded on which meant that I couldn't start the vehicle. Now the car starts which is good but the cylinder head gasket is pouring oil out of the front and rear. Don't we just love Mercedes lol!! Thank you again for the video and for anyone watching when you first don't see the screw just trust that it is deeper in the door than you would at first assume.
How many miles on your Mercedes before head gasket began leaking oil?
@@kjr8290 to be honest I don't remember it was a customer's car I'm thinking it was very high mileage all I remember was this guy was dumber than a box full of rocks. I explained the issue three times in a row to him with his sister also present and when he asked me a fourth time she told him he was an idiot 🤣🤣
I used one of the hex bits from the 3/8 in. Drive Extra Long Hex Bit Socket Set.

Hello, good video, I have benz c180 with infrared keyless entry, but driver doors does not want lock/unlock, others work fine, what could be the problem? I hear air when its locking/unlocking. Thank you.

Great job. Quick question, does the the round chrome/steel key hole cover come off? My car was apparently broken in in the past and they ruined those round caps/covers where you put the key in. Any suggestions for replacement piece? Can the plastic part around it come off without damage?
I think you are looking for something similar to Mercedes-Benz 2027601977 (Google search for this / check the images). However, please check with the Mercedes dealer for the exact part number for your vehicle. You may be able to special order the part that also matches your current key.

I HAVE A 1999 MERCEDES BENZ CLK 430. THE DOOR HANDLE PROBLEM IS ON THE PASSENGER DOOR SIDE. THE DOOR HANDLE WILL MOVE IN AND OUT WHEN PULLING ON THE DOOR HANDLE, BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. HOW SHOULD I FIX THIS PROBLEM. AND IS THIS AN EASY THING TO DO YOURSELF ???
I have a Mercedes 190e from 1992. Is it the same lock?
The 1992 model is one generation earlier model. The lock would not be interchangeable, but likely operates using a similar approach so you could check if you can repair using the same technique.
