Sorry for your loss, brother. I couldn’t imagine losing my father that young. I’m 37 and he’s 64. He’s still my Superman. I have my own home, a wife and kids, and he still tells me what to do. 😂
My heart goes out to Adam. It’s scary when people you love get to a point where they can’t take care of themselves/they’re constantly falling. I’m a caregiver to my aunt and the anxiety is insane, but distractions with work and realizing there’s only so much one can do gives a *small* bit of relief.

This has been one of my favorite episodes yet. I love the premise to the show, and the guests are fantastic.
Man. The timing of this episode is on point. Nothing prepares you for how to be a child to aging parents. My parents are 74 and 71. They’ve had their health issues. But for the most part, they’re in good health. My brother and I had a conversation with our dad a couple weeks ago about where all of their stuff was, insurance policies, bank accounts, etc…… I went over their house on Sunday, and saw on a book on the table called “When I’m Gone” which is for just that. It was nice knowing that they took our concern about that seriously, but also it was kind of a jarring realizing like “Oh, yeah. That’s where we’re at now”.
I had the opposite, but that's awesome. I would love to do that one day but I'm like 3 minutes in.

My only tip is to introduce the life alert early if there are any signs of dementia. She’d have the necklace on, take a fall, a forget she had it on. But the family stepped up and became the at home care we couldn’t afford

I’m 41, my son just graduated high school and my daughter is 14. I’m so glad now that I had kids when I did while I was still young and had the energy to keep up with them. I couldn’t imagine having kids at 41! 🤣

Oh my god. The same thing happened to my dad - 4 days alone stuck on the floor. We called the police to do a wellness check, which saved his life. He'd been hallucinating and was permanently handicapped from the incident. He lived a few more years after that. Miss him so much.
Most folks have no idea that isolation can be far more damaging than actual injuries. The fall probably hurt him, but that isolation without change is likely what truly harmed him
My cousin saved us from the heat with a generator here in Texas. No way I'm missing the Honeydew. Grateful for everything 🙏🏻. Happy Toosdee y'all.

That's wild I'm Adams age and my moms not even 60 yet but have the same situation with my grandma she will be 82 or 83 in a few months
same, I'm late 20s and mom is mid 60s but my (step)grandmother AND great-aunt have both recently become very confused and are clearly no longer all there. It can be distressing watching your family repeat the same simple questions over and over, no matter how many times you answer them... very disconcerting

Criminally underated podcast
So my grandpa was a freaking legend - Small town western Canada boy grows up to join ww2 and pilot Lancaster / Halifax Bomber planes doing many missions including pre dday bombing raids where he flew back over the dday armada of ships without even knowing it! Eventually gets shot down by flak and captured by the Germans for 9 months (we have 1 picture from that time and it’s crazy cause it’s my grandfather but you know on the other side of that picture/camera was a full fledged German soldier (word not mentioned for censor reasons). Anyways, long story short, he eventually makes it to 88 years old, his wife/my grandma has died years ago and he’s actually “dating” his old pilot friends wife since he had passed as well and one day at her house my grandfather stood up too quickly from the couch, blood didn’t move properly or whatever, and this 6’6” 88yr old man fell forward on to his chin and ended up breaking his spine and tearing every one of his neck tendons - to the point where they put him in a Halo (metal ring screwed into your head and attached to your spine) at 88yrs old, taught him to speak again, and just over a year later this savage of a man was walking around without a cane or anything!!!! Passed a year after that or so but the reason I bring it up is because before his fall he was an 87yr old living like a 60yr old we used to say - driving around, taking trains to see his gf, doing whatever he wanted - but as soon as he was able to speak when he was in hospital, he was actually the one to say “I think we need to discuss selling the house” - the only house him and my grandmother ever owned - and he spent the last year and a half of his life in a very nice retirement home downtown of our town and would spend many days sitting out on his walker on different street corners waving at cars and talking to anyone who would walk by. Literal Legend. He told the ambulance drivers to go away when he first fell too!!! Then called them back that night when he couldn’t sleep and they’re like “uhhhh yaaa obviously you can’t sleep sir you have a broken neck”. The greatest generation 100%. Miss him everyday. 19:51

Big fan of both for a long time. Glad to hear that Adam’s dad made it thru four days, but presumably the ancient dog Sophie also had no food or drink for four days? Maybe she could drink from the toilet. I love Ryan’s laugh forever and always and thru anything.
This story is one of the reasons why I think everybody should have a Google dot or an Alexa in home of your elderly parents when they're alone like that
