I didn't know you could set up a game without an enemy carrier. Being as I am the only one in my group who actually has played the game, I've never had a full crew, and solo (for me at least) controlling the ship and all the drones gets to be a bit too much while also under pressure of getting yourself surprised by the other carrier. Good to know that a more learning-focused laid back run like this is possible!
Such a fun game! I’ve played the crap out of this, have basically every achievement on the medals board in the bridge. I want so badly to setup a pvp game, it’s fun playing against the AI but imagine the stress of having 2, or 3 carriers in the map, all fighting for supplies in preparation for the final battle. Sadly none of my friends who have the game got nearly as into as I did, and as such nobody feels confident enough to “captain” the other ships If you have any outstanding questions from your time playing feel free to ask, I may well be able to help!
@@waynemongoI bought this game back in January and I've been researching the same question. It's unclear. The devs last released a feature update in May 2023. They were previously on a roughly quarterly cadence since the inital release. Radio silence since then on the matter, sadly. Their bug tracker and feature request site is still active and someone on their end is manning it, which is a little encouraging, but they haven't made any official statement either way in terms of future planned updates. They also said they don't make advance announcements in order to manage expectations. So no commitments on new features. Instead they seem to be focused on their other game, Stormworks, for which they are releasing new features rather quickly. It seems this game is complete in a minimal sense in that it gives a modern, immersive 3D experience of the original game with multicarrier multiplayer, but not too far beyond that. It's certainly tens to maybe hundreds of hours of fun as-is. There are definitely some bugs and lots of tuning needed to make it polished. Some of the issues have been addressed by mods, but the modding support is limited. For example, you can create new 3D models, but can only replace existing assets with them. Or you can tweak speeds and parameters of various things and change station console UI functions. It's not the kind of mod support that would let you make additional features, add more assets, make new game modes, or extend the engine. Not sure whether you can script new NPC behaviors. So the core gameply seems pretty set right now. This company seems like a new, small, very technically capable studio, but they don't have the bandwidth to attend to both of their projects at once. I would advise that if you buy it, expect nothing more than what already exists. Anything new at this point would be a bonus. Hopefully, they continue to develop it or at least make very robust modding tools, but I'm not holding my breath for that. Personally, I'm going to write the publisher to see if they can put some pressure on to keep this thing evolving. There's amazing vision and promise here and it would be such a missed opportunity to stop now.
@@waynemongoI also want to say that you might find the core gameplay can be a little repetitive if you're playing against the NPC's all the time. Steer carrier to island, defeat defenses (planes, vehicles, boats, turrets), assault and capture Island, expand logistics with new items, repeat until you encounter the carrier, kill carrier. The PvP angle mixes it up, but the core pattern is still there. I find it lots of fun, but I do with there was some kind of variety in terms of possible missions and tactical approaches. I kind of wonder if the devs have the interest to make this thing more than what amounts to a remake with PvP. I really hope so.
@@joewilson9361 yeah, Carrier Command was one of the first games i had on the Amiga and i played it again recently on an emulator. I know what you mean about limited replay value. It is odd to remake a game applying the same restrictions as the developer had no choice with in the mid 80s. It would make sense to expand on it significantly.
Great episode Squash! Would love to see more
Great game, really good idea to create a game without an enemy carrier to get started with the mechanics!

Nice game! liked to see you play.
I had it on my wish list, I'll probably buy it when it goes on sale next, it looks freaking awesome.

Hi, i heard the game was abandoned. Is it still worth getting? Do people mod for it?? Cheers.

@@joewilson9361 Thanks for your info on this, Joe. That's answered my questions very nicely. Will give it a go. Thanks again.
