Making a Beetle Droid (Brooch) // More Beading!

  • A beaded beetle bot brooch? Why not! Meet BT-11, my little droid beetle ready for reconnaissance and lockpicking, etc. Using the same techniques as I have been developing all year, and a mixture of sequins, rhinestones, wires, threads, and beads on felt, I spent a very full day making this little buddy. I want to make a crystal beetle next, but then I have a big bug project in the works that won't be a brooch, but you'll have to wait for that one!
    It looks like General Bead are currently temporarily closed!? Hopefully they come back!

    But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
    First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

    Oh, this took me back. Like way back! In the early 70s I used to help my dad by sorting out resistors, transistors, condensers, and other solid state electronic parts. You captured the colours and designs perfectly. I really appreciate how you translate an ideal into your own fashion style. Very satisfying to watch and challenging to think about. I'm really looking forward to the future bug/beetle works.
    How do you come up with these ideas?

    I love how you know what size your beads are... I've never once seen anything other than "seed bead" listed on any label of any beads I've ever bought (and I've been buying beads for... oh gods, about 40 years now)... so I've got regular seed beads, fat seed beads, too fat to be actual seed beads, and super tiny seed beads in my collection, plus the usual cut beads, bugle beads and other things for embellishments. I never really played with sequins but you're making me want to try. I think my favourite thing I've ever beaded was a necklace that was a silver spiderweb in the ultratiny beads with a black 3d spider in the iridescent ultratiny beads, hanging from a "thread" near the centre of the web, back foot out letting the web out and everything.
    I have a handful of unused little resistors, I think if I ever did a recon beetle I'd figure out how to work their coloured bands into the design concept.

    • @TheClosetHistorian
      @TheClosetHistorian  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They sell them by size on most of the etsy shops I grab beads from I suppose! I really like DIYBeadsStore for example 😍 www.etsy.com/shop/DiyBeadsStore I would love to use real resistors and such, I need to find some inexpensive salvage 😂

I couldn’t tell if you had kids playing/screaming in the background as I have had to put headphones on due to the kids playing screaming outside my townhouse window. Life in the summer. It’s kinds nice to hear the kids playing again. Last couple years they were not outside much.

    Lovely. I cannot unsee Gustav Klimt, once you mentioned him, in the bodice of the beetle. And I think that is wonderful!

    This is gorgeous! I was wondering, does wearing brooches damage clothing over time? Is there anything i can do to reduce potential damage? Lovely video!

      Thank you! Brooches have pin backs, and like sewing pins, they do no damage to fabric!

    Your earrings are great with the gorgeous green top. Such a fantastic beetle, I can definitely see the Klimt like patterning xxxxxxxxx
