    Well done! Thanks for the work you put into this video. Used to ride my bike around local dealerships on weekends during the late 70’s , early 80’s. Loved looking at the new models, picking up brochures along the way. Keep up the good work!!!

      Thank you. I loitered at car lots a bit myself.

      @@thehopelesscarguy Still have some cool brochures, did you hold on to any? The ones I had to chuck way back were messed up with FunTac ( 80’s version of 3M strips ) but I am still hoarding my Mustang , Camaro and various others.

      @@quad5186 I don't think I still have any but you never know. Somewhere around here I have a box of car ads from the 20 through the early 80s and I can't find the bloody thing. So who know what may be hiding that I've forgotten about.

    It's funny that it was only in the late '90s/early 2000s that people were talking about sport compacts, forgetting these 80s U.S. hot compacts. Thanks for giving these cars their due!

    • @thehopelesscarguy
      @thehopelesscarguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hot compacts go way back. I'd say they didn't catch on in the U.S. until the 80's but then I remember the song "The little Nash Rambler".

      @PockyFiend 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thehopelesscarguy Actually, they were, but the first seriously sporty compacts became "ponycars" after the Mustang came out.

    Purchased an 84 Escort L base model, mostly for the MPG, test drive as couple Turbo variants of Buick, Ford, & Dodge. Even wound up changing careers, going into automotive mfg, repair & Ca smog program, where I learned an awful lot & understood the new technology & then retail auto parts. The Turbo T type by Buick & Dodge GLHS (w/ both intercooled versions)hands down the most exciting to drive. Enjoying. The content thanks.

    Subaru was a big part of the mid 70’s - and the 80’s in the northern part of the states. Great Series

      Thanks, Subaru has been a bigger influence than it is often given credit for.

    The LeBaron GTS was not the car you identify. It was a 4 door variant of its stablemate the Dodge Lancer.

      Actually, most of the FWD GM cars of the time were acclaimed at their introduction. Over time they fared less well.

      Agreed. I would say one of the worst. Although this one is starting out to look like its going to worse.
