Well done! Thanks for the work you put into this video. Used to ride my bike around local dealerships on weekends during the late 70’s , early 80’s. Loved looking at the new models, picking up brochures along the way. Keep up the good work!!!
@@thehopelesscarguy Still have some cool brochures, did you hold on to any? The ones I had to chuck way back were messed up with FunTac ( 80’s version of 3M strips ) but I am still hoarding my Mustang , Camaro and various others.
@@quad5186 I don't think I still have any but you never know. Somewhere around here I have a box of car ads from the 20 through the early 80s and I can't find the bloody thing. So who know what may be hiding that I've forgotten about.
It's funny that it was only in the late '90s/early 2000s that people were talking about sport compacts, forgetting these 80s U.S. hot compacts. Thanks for giving these cars their due!
Purchased an 84 Escort L base model, mostly for the MPG, test drive as couple Turbo variants of Buick, Ford, & Dodge. Even wound up changing careers, going into automotive mfg, repair & Ca smog program, where I learned an awful lot & understood the new technology & then retail auto parts. The Turbo T type by Buick & Dodge GLHS (w/ both intercooled versions)hands down the most exciting to drive. Enjoying. The content thanks.
I just recently came across your videos and I am am happy that I did. You have a great narrators' voice and it is so easy to understand your videos.
Wow, thank you!

Hot compacts go way back. I'd say they didn't catch on in the U.S. until the 80's but then I remember the song "The little Nash Rambler".
@@thehopelesscarguy Actually, they were, but the first seriously sporty compacts became "ponycars" after the Mustang came out.
@@PockyFiend Exactly
This channel is great! This series great! Keep it up!

Subaru was a big part of the mid 70’s - and the 80’s in the northern part of the states. Great Series
Thanks, Subaru has been a bigger influence than it is often given credit for.
Your pronunciation of car names needs some study. Well, It might be "Hopeless" Love your videos!!!
Thanks. Used to be I couldn't spell mechanic, now I are one.
The LeBaron GTS was not the car you identify. It was a 4 door variant of its stablemate the Dodge Lancer.
You are correct, I meant GTC.
The A6000 was a well respected car by automotive journalist
Actually, most of the FWD GM cars of the time were acclaimed at their introduction. Over time they fared less well.
Malaise era in both performance and looks. And quality.
Wait till I do my video on why Malaise era cars were still more fun to drive.
what a horrible decade for American cars
Agreed. I would say one of the worst. Although this one is starting out to look like its going to worse.
