    I’ve had SD since 8th grade and I’m in my 30s now. I have to wash my hair every week .. 2 max. I go to dermatologist and get rx shampoo. Ketaconozale (same active ingredient as nizoral just stronger strength ) for maintenance and clobetasol (steroid) when I have a major flare up when it’s really flaky and sore. I also flare up on my hair line so I can’t use any edge controls to slick my edges sadly lol I use ketaconazole cream on my hairline.. major tips- don’t oil your scalp the oil triggers the yeast .. & if u get braids u can’t use gels or the edge control on your parts or your scalp will flare up quickly .. at least mine does. Nothing on scalp not even itch products unless you’re ab to wash.. not even tea tree oil. Years ago I used to put ACV on my scalp w applicator bottle let it sit 15 mins then use RX shampoo and that worked but then I read the ACV might promote more yeast and got scared lol but other than that let ur scalp breathe.. and wash often ! I also noticed that heat makes the flakes come back faster like if I blow dry in high heat when it’s focused heavily on roots

    My ex also had this issue and we cycled through soo many different products and lines. Natural, plant based, just everything. What did end up working is the As I Am Dry and Itchy scalp line. We’d only oil his scalp twice a month after washing. His scalp and hair flourished like crazy. I highly recommend

    Yes, that's seborrheic dermatitis and you can pick the flakes and your hair comes with it 😭
    I have seborrheic dermatitis, and it has been a journey. I have tried so many different shampoos and conditioners. I will say aloe vera gel (the plant) has been the most helpful. My hair grew fast and it was full. My scalp was the healthiest it has ever been. I stopped because it can be time-consuming, but I would recommend it. Certain oils will cause a flare-up; the overproduction of oils will do that. Stress and foods like dairy can cause flare-ups.
    You got this beautiful 😍 I understand the frustration. Our hair is such a prominent part of us and our identity. Your hair is beautiful and looks extremely healthy 😍 ✨️ I would recommend aloe vera plants. You will not regret it!

    • @jeniseadriana
      @jeniseadriana  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi boo! Thank you for commenting! How did you use the aloe vera specifically? I think I’m going to try it.

    • @itzmeashleymock1
      @itzmeashleymock1 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Jenise Adriana yes, try it! So I section my hair up (maybe 3 sections on each side) and then spray each section with water. For the aloe vera plant, you can just cut it into medium-sized sections. Then take each piece you cut and cut those in half. You will see the clear aloe vera gel on each section you cut.
      So this part is your preference.
      I usually take each piece and rub it on the sections of my damp-to-wet hair until it's saturated in the gel, and focus on the scalp as well (it feels so good).
      Others will take a spoon and scoop the aloe vera gel from each piece and put it into a bowl. You can use your hands and squish up the gel in the bowl and apply that directly on your head.
      Or use a blender to blend the gel pieces that you placed in a bowl and after blending it, they usually would strain it.
      I use the first method, as it's quicker and in my opinion easier. Some people don't like it that way because they say it leaves chunks of the gel behind in their hair (that's why they choose to blend it) but I think it may depend on the texture of your hair and how saturated it is. I have never had chunks and I think it's because I use water first and then apply the gel.
      I have sensitive skin, and it did irritate my neck a little. I just make sure to have a towel around it or once I covered it, it was fine.
      Leave the gel in for at least an hour. I've left it in for hours before and even overnight. Wash with shampoo and conditioner, some people just co-wash but I preferred both shampooing and conditioning.
      I did this every other wash day (wash day was every Sunday) in the beginning, but I noticed my scalp was healing. I had fewer flare-ups and those scaly scabs, so I spread the treatment from biweekly to once a month.
      I hope this helps love 🙏🏽

    Don't know if you're still dealing with the issue. Hope this helps. I had SB very badly for over 20 yrs and am happy to say that I no longer do. I tried the medicated shampoos both prescription and otc, steroid prescription liquid, AC rinses on and on. Various docs said it's incurable. Not so. What finally worked to cure it for me is figuring our exactly what the triggers were. Once I learned it's basically an allergic reaction I switched up all my hair products and techniques to get rid of the allergin. Something(s) I was using was the problem and I didn't know exactly what so I changed everything and tried adding thinks back or not depending on the reaction. I no longer use anything with coconut oil, nothing from that macadamia line, no edge booster or a couple of other gels/edge control, no sitting under a hot dryer forever with the hot air drying out my scalp, and no putting conditioner on my scalp. I also now oil my scalp every few days with organic jojoba or black castor oil and I have no more SD issues. Just try and find out what the ingredients are that are triggering for u. Re: alcohol. Not all alcohols are drying. Some are fatty alcohols and help moisturerize the hair. Keep doing your research if it's still happening and good luck!

    In Summer of 2021, I ended up having a horrific reaction to the medication ‘Humira’ and it caused me to develop psoriasis, which in turn gave me dermatitis of the scalp and I eventually started just losing my hair in chunks and I ended up with alopecia temporarily. I know how discouraging and uncomfortable the problem can be. I’m sending you love on this journey of yours and I hope you’re able to find products that help 🙏🏾

      Hi babe. Thank you for sharing! What products helped to reverse this for you?

    • @Jay-lm2wm
      @Jay-lm2wm ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeniseadriana Honestly, most of my treatment was done through prescribed medications for psoriasis, such as cyclosporine and I used a prescribed solution called clobetasol, which helped a lot with inflammation and itching.
      But once I cut my hair, my main focus was keeping my scalp clean and doing whatever to prevent scalp irritation. I used shampoos that didn’t contain sulfur or any other harsh chemicals (especially since I didn’t want to further trigger a reaction) and l used natural oils like tea tree oil and coconut oil to help and prevent my scalp from being dry.
      I know this Journey definitely isn’t a one size fits all situation, but hopefully you were able to gain a bit of insight to help you along yours 🫶🏾

    • @jeniseadriana
      @jeniseadriana  ปีที่แล้ว

      Uhhh I didn’t really do a big chop, I cut my hair in 2016 just for a cute short cut and after that I would always let it grow out and cut it again. So that’s hard to answer because I haven’t been intentionally trying to grow my hair since my first cut.

      I really think the shampoo was the key factor and keeping my scalp free of loads of products was wat helped me a lot, Hope this help...💃🏽👍🏽

      Can’t speak for other people, but unless the issue is something critical or a life or death situation, I don’t run to a doctor before trying more natural remedies. I don’t willingly subject my body to synthetic prescriptions without trying to solve the root cause of the issue first. Prescriptions only mask the issue. Sebderm is often caused by synthetic and inflammatory ingredients in hair care products. Why not eliminate toxic ingredients from your regime before running to a doctor? Seems to be a no brainer to me but to each his own.
