    3. SOUNDBITE (Mongolian) Hero Baatar, director:
"Whatever is long forgotten can be also considered as a new thing. So therefore, the play's plot is happening around 2000 B.C. in Central Asia. And this is a fictional story which happened a long, long time ago. Like a tale. So therefore, it's something that London has never seen before. It's very unique, it's new and it's very arty as well. And it tells this beautiful tale about this ancient kingdom. And then it has lots of artistic elements."

    5. SOUNDBITE (English) Bayra Bela, producer:
"The play is about the philosophy of what it takes to be a great leader and which kind of sacrifices one has to make in order to, you know, to succeed. And then therefore, like, I feel like this is something which is quite universal, right? Any country, they can relate to it."
    6. SOUNDBITE (English) John Man, historian and author:
"It has many strong themes. And the most important thing for me is that this is Mongolian soft power. This is the first time, really, that there's been a huge cultural event in this country which will put Mongolia in the eyes, present it to a public who will be unfamiliar with it. And Mongolia needs all the help it can get because it is lodged between China and Russia and is extremely keen to develop relationships with the outside world, with Korea, with Japan, with the United States and with Europe. And so that, I think it's a great event."

    8. SOUNDBITE (Mongolian) Hero Baatar, director:
"So, it's like jumping into an ocean without looking at the end, right? Of course, like we know about the West End. And for us, it was such a prestigious thing to bring our play to the country of Shakespeare as well. But like, once we started, like, it just, we just realize how massive this project was. And then what so many things we, you know, like we didn't expect, like in terms of the scale wise, but like we have a saying in Mongolia that like, if you go alone, you're much faster. But if you go together, you might be slow, but like you always end up in your destination. So 130 people, Mongolian artists, like, really, truly dreamt of making this project happen. And then they worked so tirelessly in the last few years. And that's why we are sitting in front of you and talking to you today."
    9. SOUNDBITE (English) John Man, historian and author:
"The play itself is extremely poetic and formal with quite dramatic language. And it was a question really of finding a way of presenting this in English, which did justice to the original. So, it doesn't escape from the original, but partly because when it goes on, of course, the lines are being spoken in Mongolian on stage. And so, I and Timberlake, we had to present it as surtitles, which reflect what's going on on stage."
    10. Tilt down from surtitles to stage performance
    11. SOUNDBITE (English) Timberlake Wertenbaker, playwright and screenplay writer:
"For me, it's also very, very important to hear the Mongolian because it's very poetic and the language has its own rhythm and the writer has his own rhythm. So, we've tried to respect that as much as possible."

Well, of course you are! I think they're doing a bang-up job of making the rest of the world aware of Mongolia. I know I had no knowledge of Mongolia until I discovered The HU. Then I started looking at other Mongolian stuff on TH-cam. So I noticed when this show was coming up. You know the actor who plays the leader in the Black Thunder videos is the same one who plays the Khan in this show!
