  • Welcome to the LEGENDS: Podcast by All Day Vinyl. In this episode, our host Scott Dudelson leads a conversation with legendary drummer Matt Sorum of Guns N' Roses, The Cult, Velvet Revolver, Kings of Chaos and more.
    In this clip I showed Matt a picture of an iconic Guns N' Roses photo - the cover of Rolling Stone in 1991 featuring a photo taken by Herb Ritt and used to promote Use Your Illusion 1 and 2. Matt shares the story behind the photo and gives us an intimate snapshot of life wih the band during that legendary tour and album release. Matt also shares his thoughts on the 2016 Guns N' Roses "Not in this Lifetime" reunion and the indispensable advice that Ringo Starr gave him after the tour was announced.
    Sorum is an awesome storyteller and shares many amazing anecdotes about his career and the legends with whom he plays and produces. We loved chatting with him and we hope you enjoy the conversation too. If you like the episode please rate, follow, subscribe and tell your friends about the LEGENDS: Podcast by All Day Vinyl.

      I think he’d be perfect to succeed Niko McBrain if Iron Maiden are going to continue doing live shows.
      In fact, precisely because he’s NOT a “Metal drummer” I’ve always felt Sorum would’ve been the best fit to succeed Dave Holland in Judas Priest.

    I can't believe Dizzy Reid got on that cover. I can't believe Guns went to Limelight. That was a historic club for a historic band.

    The length of that UYI tour gets exaggerated all the time. It started in May 1991 and ended in July 1993. Sorry Matt, that’s NOT 3 and a half years by my math, although it was a long tour for that era of music

    The lynch pin to their spiral was the loss of Izzy …

    Being late is very disrespectful of other ppls time, but with Axel that ego probably didn't give a shit.

      Partially what drove Stradlin to leave the band at the end of that year.

      I saw them a few years ago in Vegas and it was a 7:30 start time and I thought to myself “no freaking chance” this has gotta be 9pm - axl ain’t come out that early in Vegas… glad I got there at 730 because sure enough they did start on time! They’ve got a well oiled machine going now, no tardiness. No messing around. Such an amazing band

    Matt actually thinks he played a big part in GNR. He was an employee. Not a band member really. He was basically a session player. He wasn’t a big part of the band. He came way later.

  • @jodyturner8099
    @jodyturner8099 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    They didn’t ask him to come out because. He really never was in the band. He was always an will always be a hired gun

    Matt never wrote any new music with them. He wasn’t a part of the core group. He was a session player. A hired gun. He seems to think he played a big part in that band. On the albums he played on. All that music was already written. So. He let his ego go way over his head

    Nobody says he needs to be in the band. They say Steven should. But not this hired gun.

    I think Matt did an awesome job. Incredible albums, all of the songs sound great. Except for my world and since i don't have you. Besides that he was just a more complete drummer and probably better than adler at that. The fact is that it's Axl's band. izzy had to find out the hard way I guess. adler must of messed up with axl. slash and duff don't know better than Axl. And matt wasn't the only drummer around. It's a dog eat dog business. What can you say. Maybe they all find out in their own way that Axl is not one to take lightly. Axl doesn't need them. Axl seems nice enough to provide them the opportunity and they probably took that for granted. Can't they do better without Him. Obviously not from what is seen. Now He has certain members who have not gotten on His bad side I see. slash and duff would know that Axl don't play. What can matt say? He did great as a drummer who knows what personal issues there are but life carries on. Axl no different from His serfs needs Trump's Almighty hand more than ever. Music can't save them. JESUS can. Worry about that. Matt is right, none of them are dead. GOD must be looking over them. Kill those who are not doing as Trump expects in your industry. That's all there is to do. MAGA
