I am actually surprised to read all of the comments on here by Puerto Ricans who are proud of their African ancestry because of what I have seen growing up in N.Y., comments from other Puerto Ricans who have spoke negatively about this part of the the culture, and what I have read in the comment sections of other videos!!!

Bomba, not only in Loiza but all over the island where blacks play la conga (african drum) has african lyrics directly from Nigeria(Yoruba). Santeria, same as Haitian voudou just another language. Has the same names for the Orishas(saints), as those still used in Nigeria today. And yea they did do a study and found 90% of the black blood line in Puerto Rico is Nigerian.

Yeah but the yoruba is not at all the same as palo mayombe, or vudoo or espiritismo just because they are of african base religion dont mean they are the same nope nope. Dont confuse the wasabi with the guacamole. And, yes...palo mayombe intertwined throughout time thru were one needs the help of the other...vodu in this case has no way no connections with the santeria, in the yoruba religion they dont try turning people into zombies get the facts straight and stop assuming or coming up with made up concepts or what you were told or read off the internet with erroneous information. That gives people a misconception about santeros. It's like a doctor and a dentist and a physical therapist they specialize in different health knowledge but are not the same. So explain yourself well and educate yourself well before you tell people that it's the same thing when it has nothing to do what one another. Puerto Ricans don't deny the African influence in their culture nor that it contributed to the ancestry of many Puerto Ricans. However, .please note that Puerto Rican is a nationality and that there are Puerto Ricans who are of Korean, Chinese, and Middle Eastern descent. In fact, one-sixth of the Puerto Ricans on the island are of Korean descent. Trying to force these Puerto Ricans to admit that they have African forefathers is silly.
There are also Puerto Ricans who are of pure black and not mixed with whites in a place called Loiza Aldea. To try to force them to claim European ancestry is also silly.
And yes there are Puerto Ricans who are living there who are not mixed but are of European ancestry. Trying to force them to claim Taino or any other ancestry is silly.
Also to keep in mind is that Latinos and the rest of the world don't abide by the USA slavery derived one-drop rule. Insisting that the rest of the world must abide by that USA Anglo -American Afro- American slavery-derived rule is also silly.

Compare dumb in a cans to haitians or vice a versa they have a rich history which they share similarities. PUERTORICO is an island all to it self we dont share no soil with no one unlike
(Hd/dH dominiHaiti/ Haitidomini ) i would say P.Rico and CUBA has similarities as a matter of fact there us a poem about PUERTORICO and CUBA look it up. "Puerto Rico y Cuba son un pájaro de las dos alas" Cuba and Puertorico are the wings of the same bird. There's no dumb in a can haitian mentioned in there in that poem, and the idea of the Cuban and P.Rican flag were made by the idea of a P.Rican and Cuban because of the treaty they once haf until the Americans and russians got in between just look at the history of Russian tryin to put bombs in cuba and the americans tryin to turn P.Rico into a state and having their I always on Puerto Rico why because strategically they're situated in the position in the Caribbean Sea perfect in tactics for nuclear war where from the Western Hemisphere taken practically hit anybody pinpoint very easy Dominican Republic has no history at all with the Puerto Ricans, the only history that they have is that they come and Jola boats illegally. Thats it.

So what if that influence isn't as large as the Spanish influence. It should still be touched on regardless of what size that influence is. No one in this video is trying to say that the African influence is the dominate influence on the island anyway.

Some Berbers are darkskin like Aboriginal Africans, while some are lighter skin due to mixing.
However, over 90% of Berbers have African Y-DNA male lineage.
However, they have a mixture of X-Dna female lineage.
The original Berbers were darskin, but they mixed with foreigners so much that many have lost their color.

Actually, the oldest bones in Iberia were aboriginal African type.
Remember, out of Africa theory, all lands were originally inhabited by Aboriginal African peoples.
Those aboriginal Africans traveled out of Africa into other areas and mixed with non-humans such as Neanderthals and Denivisians, and the result was the other races of people (Europeans and Asians).

The Moors were are mixture of Black Africans and lighter skinned Arabs and both were Muslims. They controlled the Iberian peninsula for eight hundred years. Do some research. The Rock of Gibraltar is named after a Black African General named Tarik who led the forces from Africa to Spain to conquer their asses. The name "Gibraltar" comes from "gibral al Tarik" meaning "Tarik's mountain".
Yes, I'm quite aware to the demographics of PR.

Overall, the video on the African Culture of Puerto Rico is very educational. However, the restaurant scene raised a few concerns. First of all, the employees are black and the owner is white, which makes me wonder if the black population have any business owners. Also, the guy who made the drums is also white. Its like whoever created this documentary not painting a great picture of his subjects.

The drums are mostly a mixture like they said, the dancing African, the language and architecture Spanish, the costumes altered from Spanish. And of course there is also a man painting cocoanuts

Spanish people, of course, are European . But parts of Spain and Portugal were conquered by the Moros or Moors in English, parts of which, (the small area around Granada) for 700 years. To be fair Granada was a vassal state for more than 250 years taking in Muslims who were kicked out of other parts of Spain and paying taxes to the Spaniards.
The Moors were mostly Berbers who were defeated by Arabs who then converted them to Islam. North Africa is still mostly Berber in blood though Arabic is spoken in the main cities. Berbers call themselves "Amazigh" (singular). If you want to know what the Berbers, that is the Moors, look like, just TH-cam "Amazigh" or "Amazigh people"
The Berbers of course are not black . Indeed they used to venture southwards and enslave or buy Back slaves from the well-known slave markets in Gao, Djenné, Timbuktu etc . It was fairly easy to do that because only one family ruled the area and it was easy for the advancing Moors to convert the chief to Islam and then both to arrange the slavery and transfer of non-Muslim Blacks to the coast. There were so many slaves that Black persons are often referred to in Moroccan, Algerian, Libyan, Egyptian homes, streets even on TV as"abid" which literally means slaves

Moors predate Islam and Arabs. Ever heard of Mauretania? Maure (Moors) Ta (land) Nia (of the) = Land of the Moors. This land name goes back to ancient times! The so-called Arabs at this time were black anyways (Phoenician), and not amalgamated yet. What about Mauryan dynasty in India from over 500 BC, these were Moors too! What about the Maori peoples of Polynesia, these weren't Arabs! What about the Khmer (Moors) Empire in SE Asia, where the Arab descent? No LOL What about Tamare (Egypt)

DNA studies are showing that while not all, the majority of Puerto Ricans are tri-racial. According to these studies the average Puerto Rican is about 64% European, 21% Subsaharan African and 15% Taino Native American. About 10% of the total population is only White and Taino mix and another 10% of the population is only African and White. There are still a small number about 5% that are Full blood African blacks and 5% are Full blood White. The racial make up keeps changing because for the past 100 years people are mixing with people from the USA and almost every part of the earth.

Domingo Hernandez I agree with your original post, people keep saying about that everyone has the three races mixed in their blood, and that's not true, some families never married a black person, but culturally Puerto Ricans are more than three races. It's not about division or classifying people, at the end of the day we all are humans, but being realistic, not all people form the Island are mixed, period. And also I don't like people that want me to say the race I am, my skin is brown so they want me to say that I'm proudly an Afro-Rican; I'm not an Afro-Rican, cause that's saying I'm black, and I'm half white, so I'm Mixed and leave it like that, or generally speaking a mulato, with Taino traces and Arabian from Spain, cause of my face complexions, so people shouldn't try to classify people in the name of 'being patriotic and proud of who you are".
