BMW Windshield Washer Pump Repair

  • Hello Everyone,
    I noticed that my windshield's water pump wasn't working, so I started sourcing the internet for it, and different vendors offered the same SIEMENS / VDO pump for about $38 + Shipping/Tax&H, so I thought that for about $38-45 I could have my windshield washer system working again. But... I figured what would be the harm in repairing the current washer pump I have. If I fix it I save some money that could go toward other projects. So I fixed it myself. So ¡Buena Suerte! amigo.
    Tools you will need:
    -voltmeter or 12VDC test light (to check connector voltage)
    -Small flat tip screwdriver
    -Your Brain ~|:)

    Thank you.. saved me from buying a new one..! Was just about to order To open pump all you really need to do is use 2 large pairs of pliers and rotate parts in different directions and they come apart without too much force.. You don't need to take white plastic part off.. -rotate the entire piece out just like you do with black plastic part, and that will give you access to bottom of motor.. clean the rust off, spray with brake cleaner and wd40, and then spin the pin on the bottom... and voila! -spins again Bob's Yr Uncle!

    Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. One of my pump motors was blocked. I took it out, took off it's case with a screwdriver and gave it a spin with pliers. After cleaning the exterior rust and lubricating it with wax it was as good as new. I also took the water tank inside and gave it a good wash. You would be surprised how much dirt there is on it's filters and interior walls.

    You should mask out that credit card, and check your statements. You've leaked the number.

    Está muy bien que por simple reto te pongas a arreglar la bomba, yo lo hice con la mía, saqué el motor completo sin desarmarlo, le quité el óxidido externo con la grata (cepillo que usaste con el Dremel), la eché a andar funcionó perfecto pero el empaque de hule que lleba abajo y que tu nunca viste porque no pudiste sacar el motor, ya no tiene suficiente sellado y se pierde presión al bombear; pero después de todo esa bomba la consigues nuevecita por EBay en $ 3 dólares y con el envío incluído !! yo compré dos para mi Z4 ;-)

    A new pump costs less than 25€. Why would you want to rebuild one?

    • @chironjo
      @chironjo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one wasn't re-built. It was cleaned and I got stressed just by watching the guy trying to insert the rotor axis back within the brushes.

      Still, I had the fortune of replacing this pump a couple months ago, and I wouldn‘t want to do it again.
      It‘s just not worth repairing or cleaning something that might die on you again in a year or two when the part is cheaper than your own labour rate to replace entirely

    An easier way to assemble this would be to put the washer between the brushes like this guy was doing but do not have the arbor/coil assembly inside the magnetic pump housing...instead put the axel into the brushes and than put into the housing....this should work much easier than trying to blindly line up the washer and axel.... Good luck
