I've carried the Victorinox Mini-Champ for years now. It is amazing for most daily tasks, with great scissors and two blades that seem to remain sharp for ages and are so easy to sharpen. The best tool? The orange peeler. It is great for parcel opening nail scraping, and spicule gouging! Wouldn't be without it. I dummy cord mine to a belt loop which means I can put it round my neck if I need to.
I carry a SAK Rambler in my 5th pocket everyday for years now I even have backups for when I lose them or they fall apart in the washing machine. I use the flat head, Phillips, and toothpick more than my $500+ folders! Also, if you guys did an outdoors review once a month or so I think most of us subscribers would definitely watch it. This is the only knife related channel I watch EVERY video that is put out. Thanks for the great content!
You should do a segment on Mini folders too (strictly knives). I have a bunch of mini folders that I love too. I always carry one in the tiny pocket above your regular jeans pocket along with a regular size folder clipped on my pocket. I wish companies made more Mini sized folders. They're fun to have just for simple package opening purposes.
The Ruike S11 is a pretty nice little one, blade from Sandvik 12C27. It's basically the same as the Bokerplus Mini Tech Tool 1, made in the same factory. The Bokerplus Mini Tech Tools also come with extra tools added e.g. scissors. I find the blade on it much better than the one on small SAKs.
The powerpint is amazing. Ive had a bunch of mini multitools, and they all felt like mini multitools. The powerpint is mini, but its not really lacking anything. Those pliers can get a serious grip on stuff, and if you carry a cheao bit extender ans some bits in your bag, you can get a lot of work done with it. I stopped carrying a full size multitool because of it.
I found a double ended bit with flats out to the end that gives PowerPint a #2 Philips and a ¼" flat and you could put it in your wallet. I also wrapped 2 jigsaw blades in paper in the wallet that work on it. Still looking at options but my PowerPint kit is pretty capable.
I found a Leatherman Juice S4 at a pawn shop recently and was able to negotiate the price down considerably. The toolset on that thing is fantastic. It's a shame they don't make that anymore really. About the best fifth pocket multi tool I have ever seen
My EDC multi right now has been the S2. I made it my mission to acquire backups, because I agree. The size and form factor of those was great, and there is nothing else really like it available new today. Not even the PowerPint in my opinion. -DCA

I enjoy this series and have seen every episode. Sorry if my wording is too lengthy, and feel free to paraphrase if needed. I've never been a fan of liner or frame locks because i had one collapse on me when i was younger, nearly cutting my finger when i was at a concert, which could've made a fun time ugly with my friends and i at the time. (This was the 90's when security wasn't what it is today.) You did a segway once about getting into titanium framelocks for the first time, and you sold me on the Ray Laconico Yorkie. I already had his Gemini, and appreciate his designs. The Yorkie is also now discontinued, so thanks for selling me on it. When i handled the knife, after avoiding liner/framelocks for decades, there's something that i noticed as what i consider a design flaw: "righty" liner/framelocks have the lock opposite the thumb. In order the close the blade, your thumb has to cross the path of the blade twice: once to push the lock open, and another time to get out of the way of the closing blade. When i handled the knife in my left hand, i noticed that the thumb only has to cross the path of the blade once: only to pull the lock open. Once the blade loosens from the lock, the thumb continues in the same direction and it's out of the way of the blade. It seems to me like the "righty" locks should be on the other side of the knife! A simple solution to the problem would be to buy a "lefty" framelock. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of affordable options out there. If you have any suggestions, please LMK! Thanks, and keep up the great work.
You know what fits amazingly well in my fifth pocket and is there often? My Leatherman juice c2. Why on earth they ditched the juice series is beyond me... They are amazing!
Fifth pocket multi tool I use is the Buck MiniBuck tool. I don't know if they still make it. Bought mine back in the late 90s while in Port in Japan at the Navy Exchange. Still working as well today as the day I bought it.
HI DCA, that little fifth pocket you refer to on a pair of jeans can also be found on some trousers and shorts. I have several pairs of both trousers and shorts in my wardrobe that has the pocket. The SOG PowerPint is one of the best tools on that entire table. I only paid around $30 from Amazon for mine. The gear system on the pliers literally adds way more power grip Force than other plier based multi tools. Also nice that each tool locks into place although my only complaint is the push button lock mechanism on each side when the multi-tool is closed is on the inside. Nonetheless great video, keep up the good work my friend.
Hi David, I'm ride dual-sport motorbikes and often take them deep into the forest. I've been thinking of getting a general utility knife to pack into the tool tube on the bike. I keep thinking get a stainless mora; they're cheap enough to not be too upset if it finds its way off the bike. Here's the problem., which Mora? There's so many variants and they all seem okay. For the mora I’d pick teh Garberg but it’s $70, next choice would be the bushcraft model with the sheath with the stone and fire steel attached, it’s a great option for do it all knife, if that’s still too much then get the mora robust, the thicker steel is definitely worth the extra few bucks, you’ll want to square off the spine though since if I remember correctly the robust has a spine that can’t scrape.

I'm surprised that the Micra wasn't brought up. It's smaller than most of these. I use mine all the time. I also wish the Squirt was still being made. They're over 100$ on Ebay.
The kabar Kephart is my personal blade of choice. It's excellent craftsmanship came in extremely sharp. Holds its edge well. And feels so natural in the hand.
For years now, I carry Kershaw Shuffle in that small fifth jeans pocket. It is small, thin, easy to use. Some might say it is a knife, but, it has pry tool / screwdriver and bottle opener on it. So, I call it a multi-tool. To date, I did not find more comfortable blade or tool to put in that pocket.
My current favorite 5th pocket knife is a recently discontinued model from Olight called the Otool. Titanium and 154CM construction, one hand opening with a great liner lock sheepsfoot blade on one side and a bottle opener, prybar and deep cutting hook tool on the other. I think Olight recently cut back or dropped their outdoors line which the Otool fell under.
Most serious question answer counterpoint: Stone knives. They are not heat treated as part of the manufacturing process, but definitely count as knives.
Same with ceramic, carbon fiber, and hardened plastic. I'd also say that heat treatment is not magical, and won't turn pot steel into blade steel, and vice versa.
PowerPint for the win, the size of the pliers head makes all the difference. After a while the tools become openable one handed, and can be closed one handed without too much trouble. The blade can do everything except spread butter

Glad you mentioned the SOG PowerPint - I def find it fits in 5th pocket and it's well-equipped. But that said, I almost always swap it out for a Skeletool in my normal pocket just before I head out
DCA, you are aware that a Swiss Champ (or Cyber Tool L) fits into a levi standard fifth pocket? just add a lanyard to secure it to the belt with a hanger clip to make it more secure.

Got to handle some Richmades at Blade show and you are absolutely right about them making you smile. Those giant blades flipping open had me giggling like nothing else. Its hard to justify for the price but one of these days I might have to snag one just to cheer myself up whenever needed.
Working mostly in an office or from home, my keychain combo of Victorinox Alox Classic and True Utility Key Tool get most of my daily jobs done. I picked the Alox because of the looks and resistance to scratching, but every once in awhile I do wish I had the tweezers of the normal Classic which work better than those on the Key Tool. I also have an Olight I3E on my keychain with normal AAA battery so I don't have to worry about cable & charging. In addition, I usually have a folding knife from my collection in my jacket pocket or laptop bag. As to more outdoor videos - definitely, especially when you are introducing fixed blade knives or outdoor folders. Show us what they can do - why some blade shapes are better for some tasks than others, ergonomics, attaching sheaths to belts or packs, etc.
Whimsical for me goes to the BFB Panic at the Picnic man. You can't help but smile every time you see it. Especially when using it to cut a sandwhich in public.

I really hope Leatherman comes out with a squirt type plier tool again. It’s so small u never notice it’s there till u need it and the functionality was all I needed for most small tasks. If they gave it an Arc-type makeover I’m sure it would sell like crazy.
One theory about why Leatherman has abandoned the keychain size multitool market is because those multitools break a lot and Leatherman is known for a long warranty. Maybe they should start an import budget sub-brand and put out keychain designs with short warranties.

Seeing all the cool pocket fix blades from blade show and elsewhere, what would you suggest as a trial knife? Im not sure a pocket fix blade is for me, so I dont want to spend a lot of money. I do also worry about the reception from others if I carried it over the other folders or otf that I carry. I would prefer at most a taco style sheath, as I want to keep pocket bulk down. Any suggestions? Bonus points for purple options
When I worked security I had a small red and grey pair of pliers multi tool with a built in carabiner and tweezers in the side with some other stuff. No idea when I lost it but I’ve been looking all over for it. Can’t find it anywhere online and it’s driving me nuts. Pretty sure it was a leather man but I don’t remember for sure. lol.
Rambler. The Rambler takes the taco when it comes to max performance options packed into a small form factor. Love it, love it, love it. I would still like to see a Cadet X though.
what is your opinion on titanium pry bars? it seems to me that titanium being more brittle it wouldn't lend itself to being more than a fancy carry piece and not useable for actually prying on something.
Nextool is really gaining some traction lately with the their multitools. I was a huge fan of the Leatherman Juice series once upon a time, but after I broke one I didn’t have the money at the time to replace it. Now I can’t. But the Powerpint filled the void very nicely. I use that thing daily. I’m seriously thinking of modding it a little bit though. As soon as I saw “Best Mini Pocket Multi-tools” my brain always goes to the Powerpint first anymore, when I used to go to Juice or Squirt. I have a Gerber Dime and it will definitely do in a pinch, I just like the Powerpint better. I’m interested to see if the mini and micro plier or scissor based multitools will make a come back. And I’m very curious about Nexttool. I like all the videos you’ve done, but I really like the “Beat the Icon” series. Those are fun. I’ve seen several people post videos about this and thought I’d ask you: What do you think is or will be trending in the next year or so? I like my power liter for size and tool options. I prefer it to the pint for the wine tool as its a vacation knife for my toiletry bag. The pivots are tight so tool access could really be improved
The SwissCard nailcare is the better option imho. you get a pin and a file and can be carried on the plane. I've never seen someone only having this without a capable knife on the side. The scissors are excellent for opening packages.

I'm lookin fer a 4-4.5in Wharncliffe/modified Wharncliffe blade folder, preferably button lock or liner/frame lock, decent edge retention but not difficult to sharpen (Cru-Wear, Magnacut, M4, CPM-154, etc.) The Protech Malibu checks all boxes except blade length. Any suggestions? Also could put some pressure on knife companies to provide larger versions/options. Much obliged.
I don't believe they make it any longer, but the leatherman juice xe6 has been my fifth pocket carry for many a year when I'm not carrying a full size multitool.

With all the popularity of pry bars and traditional knives these days, are there any upgraded electricians knives out there? My father has carries a Sears one which I believe is basically the TL 29 pattern, drop point blade and screwdriver/prybar. I know GEC has one but the availability is an issue. Wondering if I am missing any one like it that is available/reasonably priced. It seems like this would be a perfect edc blend that people would enjoy with better materials and action.
DCA, I adore the slipjoint version of the Spyderco lil native. It's a bit more substantial than the UK pen knife, but even less visually offensive to people who aren't used to seeing knives, since the blade is shorter. I go to the UK where legal options are few, but, honestly, this slipjoint gives me total confidence, and I have a Sabenza. Specifically, the lil native feels solid when gripped including the choil, but even if I don't choke all the way up, it's ergonomically impossible for me to close the blade on the fingers holding the blade. My question is this: what else fits the bill? Take my money!

Yup...i gotz me a cs4 (original version btw). Built like a tank and very pocketable. 5th one would be doable but a bit tight. Really love it though.

Agree re fram/liner-lock. Another reason why they should not be described as "right-hand biased". I'm a lefty and I like them.

I just zip tie a multi tool on a fork leg of my ktm is been going with me for years and is way more useful for wrenching and stuff.
Leatherman is the answer. It is a life saver for small fixes or holding the backs of spinning bolts

I'm surprised that the Micra wasn't brought up. It's smaller than most of these. I use mine all the time. I also wish the Squirt was still being made. They're over 100$ on Ebay.
I need scissors more than pliers, so the Micra was right up my alley.
The kabar Kephart is my personal blade of choice. It's excellent craftsmanship came in extremely sharp. Holds its edge well. And feels so natural in the hand.
For years now, I carry Kershaw Shuffle in that small fifth jeans pocket. It is small, thin, easy to use. Some might say it is a knife, but, it has pry tool / screwdriver and bottle opener on it. So, I call it a multi-tool. To date, I did not find more comfortable blade or tool to put in that pocket.
My current favorite 5th pocket knife is a recently discontinued model from Olight called the Otool. Titanium and 154CM construction, one hand opening with a great liner lock sheepsfoot blade on one side and a bottle opener, prybar and deep cutting hook tool on the other. I think Olight recently cut back or dropped their outdoors line which the Otool fell under.
Most serious question answer counterpoint: Stone knives. They are not heat treated as part of the manufacturing process, but definitely count as knives.
Same with ceramic, carbon fiber, and hardened plastic. I'd also say that heat treatment is not magical, and won't turn pot steel into blade steel, and vice versa.

PowerPint for the win, the size of the pliers head makes all the difference. After a while the tools become openable one handed, and can be closed one handed without too much trouble. The blade can do everything except spread butter

Glad you mentioned the SOG PowerPint - I def find it fits in 5th pocket and it's well-equipped. But that said, I almost always swap it out for a Skeletool in my normal pocket just before I head out

DCA, you are aware that a Swiss Champ (or Cyber Tool L) fits into a levi standard fifth pocket? just add a lanyard to secure it to the belt with a hanger clip to make it more secure.

Got to handle some Richmades at Blade show and you are absolutely right about them making you smile. Those giant blades flipping open had me giggling like nothing else. Its hard to justify for the price but one of these days I might have to snag one just to cheer myself up whenever needed.

Working mostly in an office or from home, my keychain combo of Victorinox Alox Classic and True Utility Key Tool get most of my daily jobs done. I picked the Alox because of the looks and resistance to scratching, but every once in awhile I do wish I had the tweezers of the normal Classic which work better than those on the Key Tool. I also have an Olight I3E on my keychain with normal AAA battery so I don't have to worry about cable & charging. In addition, I usually have a folding knife from my collection in my jacket pocket or laptop bag.
As to more outdoor videos - definitely, especially when you are introducing fixed blade knives or outdoor folders. Show us what they can do - why some blade shapes are better for some tasks than others, ergonomics, attaching sheaths to belts or packs, etc.
Whimsical for me goes to the BFB Panic at the Picnic man. You can't help but smile every time you see it. Especially when using it to cut a sandwhich in public.

I think the last standing Leatherman keychain / 5th pocket Multitool is the Micra. I got a few some time ago. The current $50 List Price is Painfully Outrageous.
Glad I got some of the Leatherman Squirt series tools when I did, they've come in handy over the years.
I really hope Leatherman comes out with a squirt type plier tool again. It’s so small u never notice it’s there till u need it and the functionality was all I needed for most small tasks. If they gave it an Arc-type makeover I’m sure it would sell like crazy.
One theory about why Leatherman has abandoned the keychain size multitool market is because those multitools break a lot and Leatherman is known for a long warranty. Maybe they should start an import budget sub-brand and put out keychain designs with short warranties.
My 5th pocket toolset is the Victorinox rambler + thrunite Ti2. Rambler has worked quite well for me for over a decade.
Good combo! I've used a similar size setup when I was going minimal on occasion. Alox Mini Champ (which is about the same thickness as the Rambler) and a Rovyvon A8 -DCA

Im not sure a pocket fix blade is for me, so I dont want to spend a lot of money. I do also worry about the reception from others if I carried it over the other folders or otf that I carry. I would prefer at most a taco style sheath, as I want to keep pocket bulk down.

When I worked security I had a small red and grey pair of pliers multi tool with a built in carabiner and tweezers in the side with some other stuff. No idea when I lost it but I’ve been looking all over for it. Can’t find it anywhere online and it’s driving me nuts. Pretty sure it was a leather man but I don’t remember for sure. lol.

what is your opinion on titanium pry bars? it seems to me that titanium being more brittle it wouldn't lend itself to being more than a fancy carry piece and not useable for actually prying on something.
I carry a Sog powerpint and a rovivon torch in my 5th pocket every day, no problem. Hands down the best 5th pocket multi tool.

Nextool is really gaining some traction lately with the their multitools. I was a huge fan of the Leatherman Juice series once upon a time, but after I broke one I didn’t have the money at the time to replace it. Now I can’t. But the Powerpint filled the void very nicely. I use that thing daily. I’m seriously thinking of modding it a little bit though. As soon as I saw “Best Mini Pocket Multi-tools” my brain always goes to the Powerpint first anymore, when I used to go to Juice or Squirt. I have a Gerber Dime and it will definitely do in a pinch, I just like the Powerpint better. I’m interested to see if the mini and micro plier or scissor based multitools will make a come back. And I’m very curious about Nexttool.

I EDC the Leatherman Rebar in my Fifth pocket... Fits beautifully and is way more capable than any listed here
I like my power liter for size and tool options. I prefer it to the pint for the wine tool as its a vacation knife for my toiletry bag. The pivots are tight so tool access could really be improved
The SwissCard nailcare is the better option imho. you get a pin and a file and can be carried on the plane. I've never seen someone only having this without a capable knife on the side. The scissors are excellent for opening packages.

I'm lookin fer a 4-4.5in Wharncliffe/modified Wharncliffe blade folder, preferably button lock or liner/frame lock, decent edge retention but not difficult to sharpen (Cru-Wear, Magnacut, M4, CPM-154, etc.) The Protech Malibu checks all boxes except blade length. Any suggestions? Also could put some pressure on knife companies to provide larger versions/options. Much obliged.

I don't believe they make it any longer, but the leatherman juice xe6 has been my fifth pocket carry for many a year when I'm not carrying a full size multitool.

With all the popularity of pry bars and traditional knives these days, are there any upgraded electricians knives out there? My father has carries a Sears one which I believe is basically the TL 29 pattern, drop point blade and screwdriver/prybar. I know GEC has one but the availability is an issue. Wondering if I am missing any one like it that is available/reasonably priced. It seems like this would be a perfect edc blend that people would enjoy with better materials and action.
I carry the EXO-U in that 5th pocket along with a Fulcrum prybar in the main pocket at work. I do IT work and they are perfect.

DCA, I adore the slipjoint version of the Spyderco lil native. It's a bit more substantial than the UK pen knife, but even less visually offensive to people who aren't used to seeing knives, since the blade is shorter. I go to the UK where legal options are few, but, honestly, this slipjoint gives me total confidence, and I have a Sabenza. Specifically, the lil native feels solid when gripped including the choil, but even if I don't choke all the way up, it's ergonomically impossible for me to close the blade on the fingers holding the blade. My question is this: what else fits the bill? Take my money!
