Have been an Amy fan for almost 20 years and I think I can say this is one of the best songs she's every written. I 1st heard it when the demo was released through her fan website a little over a year ago...it touched my heart immediately and I couldn't get it out of my head. She just connects with human emotion like none other. What would we do without you Amy?! Thanks for ALL of your music...I hope you never stop writing and performing!

Amy says there are so many people in our churches and in our towns that are smiling on the outside but dying in the inside ... God help us ... let us allow each other to come into our worlds regardless of what they find ... let's be brave church, let's set the example of true loving freedom ... come, God is with us to love rightly with true compassion ... let's be the church and the let the world see true love ....

You're brave Amy for giving that introduction. Probably; and I hope I got it right, you're already healed from that experience. Like what Proverbs 14:10 wrote "Each heart knows its own bitterness and no one else can share its joy". Happy for you. And I'm glad to hear the story behind that song. Others write biography in a book but you, Amy, wrote/write your autobiography through your songs. i love that personality of you. Simply, plainly true

I think it's a shame that this song didn't make the Behind the Eyes cut and only much later ended up on a largely overlooked album of mixed old and new songs. It contained the honesty that A&M record executives were pushing her to deliver on Behind the Eyes in spades. I would have much preferred to see this song than "Nobody Home" and even "I Will Be Your Friend" (the two non-Amy songs added late in the process in the hope of securing more commercial viability).

I could not agree more! It should have been track 1. The whole concept of Behind the Eyes was honesty so it's a shame it was considered "too raw." So, when push came to shove, there was still hesitation, and while it's still a great aIbum, the two outside tracks ultimately water down the intention. I suspect that Amy wanted it on there but was talked out of it by the people on her team that were worried about her tarnishing her polished image. I'm surprised they "allowed" Cry a River & Every Road!

@@lutalice the other interesting item is that while I can see how execs thought "I Will Be Your Friend" might be a hit, "Nobody Home" clearly was never single material from the start. "What Is the Chance of That" is another track that should have made the final cut. In fact, Behind the Eyes should have been a double album.
